Pakistan Cricket continues to captivate fans with thrilling moments. The recent historic Test series comeback against England, the new white-ball captain, Mohammad Rizwan, and vice-captain, Salman Ali Agha, and Aaqib Javed's unconventional pitch strategies have electrified the cricket scene.

Building on this momentum, Aaqib-led selection committee unveiled four white-ball squads for the Australia and Zimbabwe tours.

Amidst this excitement, former Pakistan opener Yasir Hameed joins Saj for an exclusive interview with PakPassion.

Main topics covered in this interview:

Yasir is right about Rizwan and his thoughts on Fakhar controversy are spot on too. I feel PCB does not need to be so bossy with zero performance and 100 percent attitude.

I cannot say that he was the best choice but Pakistan really had no other options left. He was the sole-runner in that race.

Really the question is whether a different captain is needed for T20Is!?

For T20s? NO
For ODIs? Yes

Rizwan is not gonna do any better in the t20s because if he keeps on opening and scores 30 balls 16, then it is not gonna help the team.

Former Pakistan batter Yasir Hameed mentioned which player can win the match single-handedly while speaking on a show on a local sports channel:

"Fakhar Zaman is the one who comes to mind, and there is also Saim Ayub. He can also single-handedly carry the match. If you watch the game against South Africa, wickets were falling from the other side, but he (Saim Ayub) stood firm. He decided he was going to win the match and did so. This is what we call a true match-winner, someone who can carry the game single-handedly."

"Fakhar Zaman's record in knockout matches is impressive. He performs brilliantly under pressure. I remember the semi-final match from the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 against Australia in Dubai, where he hit Mitchell Starc for four or five sixes, and then the crucial runs against New Zealand in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Those were great innings under pressure."

Rizwan should be the captain in all 3 formats. Pak look like a top 3 side in ODIs now and minnows in other 2 formats. There is a reason for that.

He’s a good captain and a solid wicketkeeper, but his performance with the bat has been lacking.

In white-ball cricket, you can't just play at a run-a-ball pace to stay safe; the team’s victory is what matters most.

If he’s playing as captain and wicketkeeper, his batting position should be lower down, around 7 or 8, to better serve the team's needs.
