Expect changes to future ICC tournaments

The 2007 WC was a financial disaster for ICC and it was ensured that the future formats favour bigger teams to make through. Similarly if India loses this match and crash out , expect some changes to the future tournaments.

We may not see India playing Pak up front from now on . They may even keep them in seperate groups. Teams poor against spin and having mediocre spinners such as Aus ,Sa may be clubbed with India. Just some thoughts. I certainly expect something's to change.

There should be a complete ban on quarter finals.

A sport where there are only 8 good cricket teams, it is mind boggling that we can play 50 odd matched just to decide the order of quarter finals or if there is any upsets and one of the minor team make it to quarter finals.

Changes I expect to be made by ICC to ensure India makes the Final:-

Don’t put India and Pakistan in the same group.

Best out of 3 coin toss for every match India plays in.

No PP restrictions for India.

Will ICC ever again keep India Pakistan as the first game in WC?

We all know the influence BCCI has on ICC. Seeing as the defeat to Pakistan knocked the confidence out of the Indian team and nation. Will ICC ever have Pakistan India game as the first one in ICC tournaments? Or even keep them in the same group?

The group and fixtures were designed to give India the advantage by scheduling the games in the same location as well as giving them a break between games. It backfired for them because Pakistan beat them in the first game.

India have made two blunders in this tournament:

1) They opted for an untested Varun who was pretty harmless.

2) They had a pace-heavy attack. Should've played 1 extra spinner.

Nonetheless, ICC may change things around.

It's not arrogance. It's what I feel and believe.

I felt India were going to lose when I saw Kohli and his team choice at the Pak toss. I knew India were going to crash out today. And I also believe we won't be losing to Pakistan again in a World Cup anytime soon. That's just the way I see it.

This feeling and prediction before the next ICC game which is not even in the horizon is called arrogance and denial.

Pakistan from now on will not have the pressure of not having won against India in a worldcup. That curse is broken, it won't be the same in the future.

Pakistan had played t20s in Pakistan so they weren't rusty all the players were in some kind of form.Normally Pakistan are slow starters becouse they only play a couple games before.

Where they fumbled was not scheduling their minnow games early on or in between. That would have done wonders to regain form and confidence for India but they didn’t do it. Maybe they wanted to take a step back and see how these minnows perform because they hadn’t seen much of them and needed this time to see their players and strategize. It backfired.


But one thing is for sure, in todays data driven sports, and commercial viability of India, ICC will play all sorts of gymnastics with data and conditions in the future to make sure India goes through.

There are no quarter finals in this tournament. 4 qualify leading to semi-finals.

As for the topic here, I can imagine nest year's tournament will be designed very differently, probably one group, where all teams play each other so some sides can bash a few more minnows.

I prefer this format as it adds so much more urgency to the tournament. I dont want to sit through 3 or 4 meaningless games.

Maybe ICC could instill a better team selection sense in Indians.

A team of Ashwin+Y Chahal+Varun C+Bumrah+Axar Patel/2 all-rounders would have troubled teams far more and they might have won at least one of the games.

Axar Patel is a better all-rounder than Jadeja in LOIs. Ashwin is craftsman, Chahal is the best leggie in India.

Too much of a cash cow and the possibility of a WC without an Ind-Pak match is too big a risk.
