My worst experience :- During my Higher secondary school days, during the break bw the classes, around 20 policeman entered into the school, kicking aside the Gatekeeper as they had come to arrest some student for his involvement in protests. Police or any security force or personal is not allowed into any school or college premises in Kashmir and when one student stood up and told them about it, they targeted their guns at him and it was a complete silence all around. Within a minute all students were in school compound (around 1000 students + staff), and the SHO understood that it was better for him to leave ASAP and save his life, they left like Bheegi Billies with students raising freedom slogans.

Best experience :- Kashmir is Kashmir, no place like it on Earth, Kashmiris have modified themselves and learned to live under harsh circumstances.
The day JK reached quarter finals in Ranjhi Trophy was a great day as well, whole Kashmir had forgot all the pains and were praying for the team. JK lost against Punjab in a close match but memories are still there.

Any of your good or bad experience in Kashmir. Whether u are Kashmiri or have visited there ever.

Remember this isn't a thread re political situation or about Kashmir Issue, so kindly stay on topic and feel free to share experiences.

This is never gonna stay on topic. Especially after you shared your worst experience which is exactly like the image Pakistani media shows us about Kashmir about police brutality, search & arrests without warrant, harassment by military etc.

Some bad experiences:

1) it was the 90s. I think i was 6 or 7 years old when i saw many people, from 16 years old to 70 year old, standing on a street in downtown srinagar. Some of the older ones were tired and sat down on the road. The entire area had been cordoned off by the army. A police jeep had been placed there and some people were made to walk from in front of that jeep. I was with my father and i was really confused and scared of the crowd and so many men with guns. The way the army men talked and manhandled some of the young men, I can never forget that feeling ever till the day i am alive. Only a few years later i understood that it was a normal drill of Indian army to cordon off an entire village or locality, make a Mukhbir(informer) or a surrendered/captured militant sit in the car and ask him to identify any militants who might have been living in that area.

2) A car bomb blast that took place at not so far away from my school which shook the entire building. Some militants in a jeep were chased by armymen and the bomb was detonated.

3) One of my very close friends was arrested on charges of stone pelting when he was 16. He was beaten so badly in the police station that he had multiple fractures. His dad knew a politician who helped in his release. He was in the hospital for many days. Still remember how horrible it was for his parents because he was their only kid.

4) I went to the airport with my friend and his uncle. The uncle had to catch a flight. As we reached the airport, i was asked to get down at the gate because only 1 attendant was allowed to drive deep towards the airport premises. I got down and one CRPF para military guy caught hold of me without a reason and asked me why i come to the airport regularly only to be asked to get down at the gate. I told him it was my 1st time in so many months but he called his other colleagues who then began inquiring about me and my personal life. I was only 18 and it got me so nervous. I was finally let off with a warning.

5) The earthquake of 2005 and the floods of september-october 2014. Horrible horrible experiences.

Good experiences :

Well these are hard to enumerate because they are too many.

Remember Qazi Tauqeer winning a singing competition called Fame gurukul even though he wasnt really as good as the other guy. It made us happy nevertheless. Pak winning in CT 2017 was nice recently.
Have some good experiences with traveling within the state. Its gorgeous and unique in its own way.

Great, so the police there are bheegi billis, so kashmiris shouldn't have any problems dealing with these bheegi billis, right? So why do you cry all the team about police brutality? You guys to push the whole bheegi billi army out of kashmir with those freedom slogans of yours

Qazi Touqeer is really good. Don't know how he faded away....still we can watch his cover versions in youtube though.

I dont know how to make you understand this; 1000+ students and 20 policemen, with only a few of them carrying weapons. In a school which is deserted from the main city.

Also please if u can be little gentle, that would be good, no need to be harsh for no reason.

He is nothing; he used to cry in every episode and that was the reason he won; better listen to Muneem or Yawar Abdal.

My worst experience: Despite growing up in a place 60km from Jammu I have never been to Kashmir and most probably would never be able to.

My best experience: Kashmiri Chai.

Yeah, that's how incomplete my life feels like.

its gonn abe informative thread about how kashmiri think about themsleves rather than pakistan and india media telling lies.

Thanks UN talkz. Their voice is kind of soothing...

I hail from a state that is the furthest away from Kashmir so this makes for an interesting thread.

Hope it stays on course.

Are there even enough "Kashmiri" members on here?

Another fond memory of my childhood is going up the rooftop and looking towards the direction of LOC hoping naively to catch some glimpses of the land far beyond. On a clear sunny day I could only see bunch of tall green trees suggesting the beginning of some kind of a jungle.

From elders I used to hear a lot about how tasty the fruits in Jammu are, pears in particular.

I am also originally from Kashmir, or maybe it's better to say my parents are from Kashmir. They lived near Morha Kampla and moved during partition. Some family members settled in Khuiratta, others in Mirpur and the majority in Punjab.

Sad to hear about the bad experiences of the posters here. I really love travelling to Khuiratta when I am in Pakistan, beautiful surroundings and clean air.

Pakistan media doesn’t tell lies on Kashmir. We’ve issues in Pak but on Kashmir that’s one thing we are wonderful on.

May be some exageartion.but going by views of the kashmiris here it looks pak media is not too bad in this regard.

Not an exaggeration. I’m from ajk. Am in daily contact with friends from IOK. They’re more patriotic about Pakistan than the mainland Pakistanis.

I miss Keran :-(

Had a nightmare of an experience yday; it was our exams. We were in exam hall and paper timings were 10-12:30 am but at 10:50 am and principal of the college came and told us to pack our bags and leave as exams have been cancelled and new dates will be announced later; it was a complete shock; where in any part of the world are students dragged out of exam halls.

We left the exam center and came to know that 4 civilians were killed and terrorists had flown away despite World's best security force using choppers and all the stuff; so much frustrated, that they opened fire on civilians.

When we left the gate of our college everything was deserted, every market closed; every school and college closed, we were greeted by police as soon we stepped out of college; but our principal made sure that we were not harmed.

Today all educational institutions are closed; bcz they dont want Kashmiris to protest;i mean seriously, u kill a guy who has only four days left for his marriage, his future wife becomes a widow even before marriage; u kill a 13 year old guy; was he also a terrorist??? U kill a guy who is 17 and preparing for his 12th board exams in October; his mother wants him to secure a position in exams; dude seriously shouldn't Kashmiris protest.

No Kashmiris can't protest and if they do so; another 4 will be killed today and another 4 tommorow, Kashmiris shud sut down and see their brothers die; see their sisters getting raped by security forces and on top of it accept India as their homeland.

**** u all the patriots and those who defend these acts.

This is going to fall on deaf ears. That 13 year old was a big terrorist for them. They will say even his parents should be arrested.

Even if everything that moves is killed in Kashmir, they will say its okay because the next shoopa powwa of the world, Gandhi's India did it.

How were those 4 civilians killed? The security forces simply open fired on them for no reason?

I've now opened a thread on the story.

Bro the problem is even if Kashmiris are protesting against water shortage or electricity cut offs; they are even killed for that.
In 2008, kashmiris were protesting against rape and murder of Asiya and Nelelofar and 100 more civilians were killed for that reason.

Refuse to believe - no peaceful orderly protest can be responded by guns.

Any possibility someone in the mob chancing violent means during the protest?
Possibly using morally supplied arms.
May be using stones paid as per standard rates?

Any good travel vlogs or documentaries from the Indian side of Kashmir?

I've been really interested in learning more about the situation and lives of the people in Indian-administered Kashmir yet it's hard to find any in depth documentaries or even travel vlogs whereas there are numerous travel vlogs from foreigners visiting Azad Kashmir. Also there seems to be a lot of documentaries from Vox and Vice type news orgs about Palestine/West Bank and Iraqi Kurdistan yet there's very few any similar documentaries about IoKashmir - it's the Israeli and Iraqi governments are relatively more liberal with allowing media coverage. If any one knows of any good documentaries or travel vlogs from the Indian side of Kashmir please post them here.

probably loads of videos it's just taking a while to upload with 2G network

I'm talking about either documentaries from mainstream channels like vox, vice, dw on youtube or travel vlogs from foreigners that have been to Kashmir. They're obviously not uploading them from Kashmir.

Yah I noticed that too maybe they are not allowing foreigners to go into the valley.
