Faisal Iqbal, the coach

Aaqib Javed in a recent interview :

“I have no idea of the direction Pakistan cricket is heading towards. It seems that whoever slams the PCB gets a job“

"The Javed Miandad case is in front of us. One day he criticised PCB policies but then when he apologised the other day, Faisal Iqbal got appointed Balochistan’s head coach.”

The direction that Pakistan cricket is heading in, shockingly, is that this board as actually actively trying to bring in younger coaches into the system. We've already seen Mohammad Wasim demonstrate something in the prior year and bringing the Iikes of Razzaq, Yousuf, Faisal Iqbal, Shahid Anwar, Younis Khan and Mohammad Zahid into the folder raises coaching standards in domestic by actually infusing fresher ideas. For years we had a carousel of same old coaches in domestic and international, including Intikhab Alam and Aquib himself who didn't bring anything new to the table.

Maybe someone like a Faisal Iqbal will be an abject failure. Or maybe he might just be a success. The coming domestic season will show how good these guys are. If Faisal fails, there may well be others younger coaches who can replace him in the future. For e.g. guys like Umar Gul if he wants to take up coaching

What can people expect from him!!!! This guy played 26 tests without have any merit due to his famous uncle. He was lucky to be born in Pakistan otherwise a player in his caliber shouldn't even play first class matches.

I am not his fan but, I think people take it to far. He averages 40 in FC cricket and has 28 100s, his average is similar to Asad Shafiq when Asad got selected. Yes he couldn’t do much at test level but, then many couldnt.

Otherwise Australian fans can talk about Shaun Marsh and Mitchell Marsh playing for Aus because of their father Rod Marsh, not to forget he was selector not too long ago and both were being selected. Shaun Marsh getting nods for test cricket at 36 years of age was definitely something questionable.

Stuard Broad was the son of Chris Broad and at the time when he was selected he didnt really set the domestic circuit on fire.

Yes favouritism can exist but, my point is we cant keep on blaming every cricketer just because they had relation with an ex cricketer. What matters is what the team needs and what are the stats of player being selected along with age to analyze the roam for future growth.

I know that some of the KK management are not happy at Faisal being involved in their set-up.

He was forced upon them and they had no option to say no.

Faisal Iqbal also took apart Shane Warne once :afridi

Well as a franchise they are able to chose their own staff, so who is doing the imposing.

Seems no one is giving Faisal Iqbal credit. Surely deserves some commendation for how Balochistan is punching above weight with a bunch of rejects/seniors/unknown players?

He's awful!

He picked a left arm spinner to play against Southern Punjab who have 5 left handers in the top 6

Then next game, he picks 6 front line bowlers, and has Amad Butt batting at 6, Yasir Shah at 7.

Imran Butt is terrible yet gets every game. The worst part about it is, he has no bench strength! The two people on the bench are a 38 year old Imran Farhat and a 37 year old Akbar ur Rehman.

He's useless.

We’re talking about the same Imran Butt who top scored QAE 2019 right? 934 runs in 9 matches!

So criticism directed at the benching of Sami Aslam but Butt, a rising 23 year old, should not play 1st XI cricket? That’s a double standard.

Regarding the team combination. Seems to be doing really well between Gul and Akif, and the top order of Imam, Awaiz Zia, and Haris Sohail is one of the most dangerous in the tournament. Yasir Shah is winning Balochistan matches with his spin despite not being a T20 bowler, and Ammad Butt is playing the role of lower order finisher.

Everything fits quite nicely and I have no gripes as long as a) Balochistan wins matches (it is) and b) Faisal Iqbal selects and develops youngsters (between Ammad, Imam, Imran Butt, and Akif Javed, he is).

By all means, Balochistan is doing better than I expected (I had projected them in last place actually in threads dating a week ago). So credit where it’s due.

I agree with you regarding imran but he seems suited to either oppening in t20s or he doesnt a warrant a spot in the middle overs proberly alot better in odis and tests

Imran butt hasn't showed anything in the national cup he seems more suited to tests defo and maybe odis or oppening in t20s not middle over.both sami aslam should play in second xI.akif javed is proper talent they need an explosive player down the order ammad butt is good thou

When you identify a talented player, especially if he is young, you should back him across formats. If Imran Butt doesn’t play National T20, he will never have the opportunity to develop his game (and even if he is a Test player in the future, it will help his game if he can switch gears).

Therefore, he should 100% be backed in National T20.

I agree with you but then he should open how do we no it's not denting his confidence playing then getting dropped ect

Aaqib Javed is literally the last person on earth who should be giving such a comment. Yaar kuch tu sharam honi chahiye.

He has been part of PCB or a PCB related entity since the age of 12. Been part of youth teams and national team as player and then worked a coach at NCA and A team level for a good 10+ years before taking PSL roles.

Higher authorities than the franchises :)

Franchises are private and have no higher authority. KK have good relations and Faisal Iqbal was a favor to that

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly sidelined the regional coaches and national selectors Basit Ali and Faisal Iqbal from the forthcoming National U-19 Cup.

According to the details, Faisal and Basit have not been selected for the National Under-19 Cup, while the head coaches of the First and Second XI teams of all regions have been deployed in the event.

The two coaches first coached the first and second Playing XI of their respective regions last season and were assigned to do so in the upcoming edition.

It is pertinent to mention here that Basit and Faisal were serving as the head coach of Sindh and Balochistan respectively and were also part of the national selectors’ panel.

There were several complaints lodged against Sindh coach Basit and Balochistan coach Faisal in the past, according to sources. Faisal’s Assistant Coach Wasim Haider has refused to work with him.

Faisal Iqbal abandoned his domestic team as head coach citing mental health and fatigue issues arising from the Covid 19 bubble. Later it turned out he had a serious argument with Haris Sohail due to which he chose to abandon his team. A few days later he was found performing the batting coaching duties of a franchise in a T10 tournament in the UAE when the Pakistani domestic season was still ongoing and he hadn't even officially tendered his resignation as head coach of his domestic side.

He should never be picked for any role in the PCB or any domestic side again.
