Late evening 26th October 1997 , few crucial boundaries by Lance Klusener gave Proteas a lead of 145 in 3rd Test a decidef at Faisalabad.

Ali Naqvi hit a boundary. Day 3 ended with Pakistan 4/0 needing 142 to win the match on 27th October 1997, and series.

Following day Pakistan’s middle order collapsed and Pollock Symcox thrashed us by 53 runs and pak bowled out for 92.

Can Pakistan return the favor tomorrow and defend 149. Aamir Shaheen to play Tests of their lives.

Shaun Pollock putting 20 odd runs and taking 5 wickets in 2nd inning was gun performance in that test. Pollock picked up 4 out of the first 5 wickets with very little run.

Pollock took out Anwar, Inzzy, Axe man and other opener to put Pakistan 30/5 or something like that when Pakistan needed 140 runs to win the test match.

Some one from Pakistan has to do the same to win here.

Nostalgic about the 90s ,looked like such a great time those with such talented players across ,somehow I didn't know Anwar captained.. Moin though stoodout with his performances in both innings from PAK.

Tragedy that SA didn't win the 99 WC.

There is always hope. Especially when Pakistan is bowling. Yea it's possible, if they can be reduced to 40-4 like in the first innings

Look at that Pakistani bowling line up. Wasim Waqar Mushtaq and Saqlain. Wow

I hope the boys are going to come into tomorrow believing.
And actually think this is on.
They should no best after cocking up so many of these!!!

south africa arent bowling at the collapse masters pakistan tho

pakistan have messed this up big time theres no way pakistan is winning this im afraid

In this game first innings one of Mushtaq Ahmed's ball passed between off and middle stump and didn't dislodge the bell.
Once in a billion times sort of thing.

Could do with Yasir turning up in the series tomorrow, in fact, he needs to turn up tomorrow for Pakistan to win.

Only chance of a win is Amir producing a magical performance that he is capable of.

I remember watching this Test at the stadium and recall the discussions on the final day amongst seasoned observers of Pakistan cricket.

Many could not understand why the captain Saeed Anwar decided not to open in the second innings and instead put himself to bat at three, instead exposing the youngster Ali Naqvi. It was felt that Anwar and Sohail should have opened and tried to get us off to a confident start. Naqvi struggled against Pollock in the first innings and was clearly feeling tentative and underconfident going into the second innings - he might have been better off lower down the order, behind Ijaz Ahmad and Inzamam.

It was a great shame as this was probably one of our strongest sides ever and we failed to chase such a small target at home.

Watching the highlights from this series to get in the mood for the PAK-SAF series.

This mid to late 90s team is unbelievably overrated, it had the spine of a jellyfish under pressure.

Contriving to lose a Test match having reduced the opposition to 64-6 in their 1st innings chasing only 146 at HOME is pathetic.

That team did well overseas, but was poor at home. The reason for that is only known to the players, who knows what they were doing, lol

More or less everyone got to captain PAK in the 90s.

That South African team was very good, much better than the current team i.e. a bowling attack of Pollock, Donald, Klusenar, Macmillan, Symcox and a batting line up of Gary Kirsten, Hudson, Kallis, Cullinan, Cronje, Pollock, Klusenar, Richardson.

The current South African team pales in comparison. SA has a better pace attack than Pakistan but their spinners are inconsistent. Batting wise, both teams are at par. Pakistan playing at home should be able to take full advantage. If Misbah and Waqar fail to earn their keep in this series, the PCB will come down hard on them.

Yep i'd have to agree plus our top 5 batsmen are seasoned performers at this ground. A big theory for this ground is trying to negotiate reverse in the evening i.e. tea session, however have to take into account exhaustion and effectiveness of a fast bowler at the start of the day and end of the day.

Yes Too many times the batsmen let the team down in the 90s Putting up ridiculously pathetic batting performances at the final hurdle

Pakistan shouldve been a fortress for them but for some reason which i wont speculate on they capitualated dozens of times in the 90s throwing away matches and series left right and centre

This isn’t specific to Pakistan however when I see such scorecards from the 90s I never know whether a team just simply capitulated (or the other guys played out their skin) or whether there was something more sinister and nefarious going on.

The supposed “golden era” but the decline of the future had already had been set in motion around this period. Also rife with fixing. The cursed “unpredictability” nonsense begins.... for a while it was cute and then years into the future it became a bit sad.

Even by Pakistani standards this one was a shocker. Felt like breaking the TV.

A team which had Kallis , Klusner and Pollock as all-rounders should have some major tournaments.

S Africa needs another 150 runs. We cannot chase anything over 120.

This!

Although I do keep getting cold sweats thinking about Pat Symcox today.....
