Cant really expect just these 2 to be the best in the whole team - Azhar Ali and Asad also in bad shape at the moment.

Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq - Technically Pakistan's weakest openers?

Hopefully the test debacle does not affect Fakhar as a limited overs batsman.
I don’t understand how fakhar gets into this test side. I know he’s a dashing odi player, good luck to him but for tests he has such basic errors it makes you cry. No foot movement, swishing outside off chasing wide ones, always susceptible to the ball that comes into him cramping for room.
Sometimes you give benefit of doubt to a player and hope he can correct his technique and come back after a stint in domestic, it’s no bad thing but right now I’m thinking fakhar should be nowhere near the test side.
Mind boggling to play Fakhar. Fakhar got -ve technique not 0 but -ve for the test setup. Based on Zimbabwe performance we made him a test player.
Test players have to be technically correct to be successful. We have promoted players from T20 to test rout this is just crazy to say the least. We expect fakhar to be the sehwag or warner. Sorry but last test and this test fakhar looked like a player who don't know how to hold a bat sorry but this is reality.
ODIs and T20s these sort player 'll be very successful in this era. Until we get rid of Fakhar/Asad/Azhar we 'll go no where time has come that we doscard Azhar and Asad we invested enough on these. Now invest in some young player and we may be a better side in 3-4 years time. Else this cycle 'll continue and we 'll be in same mood in next 3-4 years.

Imam ul Haq is not even an opener by any international standard. Can't pull, can't cut well. Can't face a 145+ km/hrs short bowl without being hit on the helmet.
The whole world can see the batting coach Grant Flower has put enormous pressure on FAkhar and he has deviated from his natural game. He is being forced to shoulder the burden where now he has failed in every instance.

Fakhar Zaman should have been batting in the middle order. Another worrying thing is that teams around the world will have seen his struggles in this series and will look to use the same tactics in LO cricket.

Imam has some decent shots but I think he lacks judgement, the number of times he gets out to these harmless 6th stump outswingers is worrying. I get that he'll always have the added pressure of having ul-haq in his name but he has to overcome any mental barriers if he wants to be successful.
I don't even know what to say about Fakher. He is an enigma. Players like Fakher don't get the excuse of being out of form/low on confidence cos of the way they play. But with that shot in the first test that went straight to fine leg shows he's just not in the zone atm.

These 2 need to score big in the final Test or what mental state will they be when they go into the ODI series?
Look, the flaws are obvious, glaringly obvious.
I wonder if Grant Flower is working on them, they look ok in the nets, but as soon as they are out in the middle the same mistakes appear again and again.

Grant can help them with their techniques or batting stances, but he can't teach anyone how to focus for longer periods or improve their batting temperament just before a test.
In fact most of these batsmen played some good technical shots. Bearing Olivier most of the other pacers were handled well. it keeps coming to the fact that these guys cannot bat for longer than one hour. They lose focus and play the wrong shot or have a go at the wrong delivery.
If it wasn't for that Haris Sohail's innings against NZ we would have lost 0-3 at home.

Imam played a key role in a relatively high chase in overseas conditions (by Pakistan's standards) just one match ago...
That shot today by Imam was shameful.
Trying to hit a bouncer off the front foot on South Africa. Head all over the place, feet nowhere. Basic mistakes.
Fakhar, what a horrible innings. It was painful to watch. He's looking like a batsman who can't score when conditions don't suit him. Couldn't rotate the strike, couldn't play with soft hands, just flat footed slogs.

That was strange. Fakhar Zaman wasn't comfortable against Moeen Ali. He played and missed, a soft hand push in air that could have been caught, back foot nervous defences.
And non-striker, Imam, didn't go to striker to talk and relax a nervous Fakhar.
I was expecting Imam to have a chat with Fakhar during the over. He didn't, and Fakhar lost his wicket in rather ordinary way.

Pak openers
Are the 2 Pak openers (Fakhar/Imam) really good enough to open for Pakistan?
I am sorry, but IMO they are both one-dimensional players with very little technique. I often wonder is this the best Pak has to send to the international stage?
I suppose if you had one solid opener then you could carry Fakhar. But as for Imam, he is just not ready for prime time and is a liability.
It is not my intertion to hurt anyone or players' feelings but that is the bitter truth and the management has to face it. They need to close their ears, ignore the names and look at ability.
