Guy has 5 hudreds 15 fifties at average of 50. Many good batsmen have struggled against the short balls from Morkel so not a big deal.

But I dont remember many openers who can hit a six on log on to the number one bowler of the world in ODI cricket.
 
Guys just Imagine if Sharjeel isnt guilty than Sharjeel and Fakhar opening together for Pakistan.

Many bowling attacks of the world are gonna be thrashed
 
This is the first time I saw him bat and he looked good, I wouldn't say anything so early though, but if Sherjeel can come back then you guys have a very promising opening pair.

Even now Pakistan should consider replacing Azhar Ali with a better opener or perhaps allow Sarfraz to open and get Umar Akmal back in the team. He can be a handy hitter at No.6.

We have definitely found Sharjeel's partner and the best part about Fakhar is that he looks to rotate strike and not just hit. Man if we can only get Sharjeel back. Ya Allah Sharjeel ko ba izzat bari kardein !!

A big slap to all who were calling him a hack during WI tour and even bigger slap to Arthur & Sarf for playing him at 6 in T20s and making him sit on the bench in all 3 ODIs vs WI !!!
 
We all saw what happened when we rightfully persisted with Sharjeel for about a year since his comeback, it paid big dividends before he got caught up in spot fixing scandal. Same should be done with Fakhar, give him a long rope and he is going to deliver. His ability to rotate strike as an opener is PURE GOLD and if we get Sharjeel back, the Sharjeel-Fakhar pairing has the makings of a fearsome opening attack !!

Not another Akmal fan. :facepalm: Please, anyone, just not HIM!
 
Early observations :

- I like his attacking intent
- He looks for singles whenever possible
- Good offside game

Improvements:

- stays a bit too legisde for my liking - brought his dismissal.
- Hacks at some shots when not required.

Overall he needs to be given time and a long run especially if Shajeel doesn't return.

Yup. And Sharjeel averaged. 44 in 14 ODIs with a SR of 130 since his return last year. That's WORLD CLASS.

Early to say but he looks like brave, but we have found many debutant for Pakistani with similar approach but once they settled in team gradually they change the batting style
 
Any updates on Sharjeel! What I have read is that PCB wants to delay the proceedings till the end of the month as the are asking UK national crime agency for proafs

This is called improvement. This is how he was initially when he played T20 domestic televised Cricket im 2013-2014 and dominated Irfan.


Some more work needed. Well done to Grant flower.


Such a upgrade on A Shehzad.

He is a natural stroke maker.
Other than the six he hit which also looks natural to him from that length all were pretty good strokes nothing much in the air. Many batsman struggle against Mourne so it wasnt a big deal if he struggled facing him the first time in his life and it wasnt an easy wicket to bat on.
And not many have had an average of 50 with a good strike rate in list A set up of Pakistan.
 
Way too early to call, but he seemed stable than Sharjeel while not scoring that fast. Lets see if he got stamina to cross 50-100 by taking consecutive singles.

Why are so many of you assuming he can't improve against the short ball? It was his debut against the #1 ODI team with world class pace attack and he equipped himself really well. The ball he got out to was more down to premeditation and being in two minds more so then any brilliance from Morkel.

He will get better, just needs to be given a run now.

I think Fakhar can end up averaging higher then Sharjeel because he seems to possess excellent strike rotation ability something which NONE of our openers have had since Anwar retired. Sharjeel improved over the course of a year or so in rotating strike and Fakhar is already pretty good at it. The 50 avg. in List A becomes more believable because he looks to keep the scoreboard moving rather then just block and hit.

Having both Sharjeel & Fakhar is going to be BALLAY BALLAY !!

Sharjeel used to an run a ball accumulator with the odd boundary now and then.. now he's a genuine power hitter... by this Innings of Fakhar, im really impressed... playing his first match he smashed the best bowlers as per rankings.. he hit 6 fours.. the whole sa team hit 9 fours.. i will excited to see him in SL match.. INSHALLAH he will make more than a 50..

We need to stick with him, these guys don't face that kind of pace and bounce in Pakistan. He will learn, Sharjeel learned too, nobody can be born VIV or KP...

What I like is the change of attitude, he was attacking Rabada on a tricky pitch, where as Azhar on other end, who has been playing these bowlers for 10 years was playing as if he was on debut as usual... Pakistani team need change in attitude, bigger balls, an injection of testosterone, bit like England. Misbahism has returned dead blocks, right on the pitch on flat tracks, these guys (Misbah party-azhar, Shezad, Hafeez) pre-mediate dead blocks, I would have rather somebody pre-mediates shots in era of flats wickets!!

Come onnn.... Why can't we just take things one step at a time and not start comparison threads after 1 innings.

Anyways he played a good innings, needs to be given a long run, at least 10 games. I think he will come good and he will definitely improve under Arthur and Flower just like Sharjeel did. What I liked most about his innings was the fact that he was trying to rotate the strike, and not just smack boundaries.

If Sharjeel is innocent... Man we'll have good.. GOOD openers...
 
He needs to be given time but I liked:
- His attacking instinct
- He was not worried facing World # 1 bowler and gave him a few counter punches
- Most of his shots were not in the air
- Was always looking for singles
- Even though seemed to have an issue with short ball (remember it is his debut innings in ODI's), he was still NOT backing away from bowlers bowling at 140-150 K Plus!
- I heard that Saeed Ajmal says he is one of the best players of spin in Pak

These are things that should be taken as something we can use to launch a career and give him sometime to show case if he belongs here and can improve on his short comings.

As for the comparisons to this and that ex-players or current ones, I am not bothered at all as long as he can build on the potential he displayed in this short innings and be just Fakhar!

He is good and has the courage. Needs improvment with feet movement and balls coming into his at an angle.

Most Inernational teams will work him out so he needs to evolve.
 
People after watching that lone T20 international match

Look at how he played imagine him and sharjeel together we would make 75 in the first power play

He doesn't have a 50 average for no reason and what's more is he hardly ever plays that hack
Normally makes 50-70 runs and gets out

My wish in life was too see these two bat
Azhar failed again one plays really fast then we have Azhar Natural dot ball machine
 
Aamer Sohail mentioned on a show that Fakhar was out-scoring Sharjeel on their first Pakistan A tour together. If Sharjeel returns, this might turn out to be an absolute beast of an opening partnership for Pakistan.
 
Him and sharjeel will make a good opening pair for us. Hoping sharjeel to get maximum of one year ban.

Not everyone can play 150kph with ease like sharjeel but i like his intent,even in psl he didn't score much but his intent is always good.
 
He is aggressive,i like his fearless attitude.I became bored and irritated by seeing the cowardly,timid approach of Pak batsmen which cost a lot of matches for Pakistan.

Now he needs another same attitude partner at the other end.Bring back Sharjeel or Shahzaib Hasan.
 
Quite impressive.

First match vs a top quality team.

Took 2 hard blows but showed guts.

Needs to be persisted with.

The key is to stay patient with such players. After the Champions Trophy this should be the squad.

to be fair, a human sized cardboard cutout of sharjeel is an upgrade on ahmed shehzad.
 
Better than Ahmed Shahzad and Azhar Ali - if properly groomed he can become way better: imagine him and Sharjeel opening the innings for Pak in the near future.

He is a real good hitter against spin too
 
I like his mindset.

Not a darpok like Shezad or Hafeez.

If a ball is there to hit he will go after it.

Would be great for NCA statisticians and Analysys aswell.

The best part was when commentators were hesitating to take his name and were saying fakaar. (you know what i mean)
And after couple of overs they decided to call him zaman.

He is not going to be an aesthetic beauty to watch in terms of technique. But he is effective. Looked very good against SA and actually took the game to them something our batsman havent done for ages. If Fakhar could avg 35 with 110 sr he would be great for us. Yes he is a hack but for ODIs thats what you need nowadays. Dhawan for India is a hack but he is a world class LOI batsman.
 
He has his issues but he is much better than mediocre stroke less wonder shehzad!His batting stance is quite ugly though.
 
Fakhar's shots were beautiful. And so is his technique. Remember he was ripping apart the SA bowling attack apart on DEBUT! He is unlucky that he got dismissed to good delivery from Morkel. Let's hope INSHALLAH he becomes really successful.

Sharjeel improved over time.. he wasnt the best when he debuted. please have sime patience... also fakhar has a better off side game as well as defence then sharjeel at this moment. He will develop give him time or else go ack to kamran or shehzad.
 
And to think someone felt it was appropriate to select Shahzad over him. :))

Miles better on intent alone.
 
Forget that fixer, Fakhar and Sahibzada Farhan should be our opening pair in LOIs.
 
Just wait until teams figure out his weak points.. then we can decide..for now he is not good as Sarjeel
 
Guys nobody is pointing out the fact that even till his ban Sharjeel struggled against spin regularly which was one of the reasons he could not convert his 50s into 100s regularly.

What I know is that Fakhar is a much better player of spin and tell you what he can hit some big sixes to them as well.
 
Like I said before, there is no shortage of hacks in Pakistan.

Aamer Sohail is nowadays talked up as some kind of batting legend. But when he actually played, his game wasn't too dissimilar to this guy and was effective on many occasions for Pakistan.

Wrt, Sharjeel Khan, I felt he was very good and will stick my neck out that Fakhar isn't as good as him.

Sharjeel was limited in his range (though he had improved leaps and bounds in just one year) but he played proper shots for most part

I like how his weight goes into the ball, but he'll need to learn how to effectively transfer that weight onto the back foot when faced with short pitch bowling.

Running between the wickets was also great to see.

He should atleast get a consecutive run of 5-10 matches.
 
Struck the ball well but also looked to rotate the strike, showed more promise and intelligence in his debut the Azhar, Shezi and Hafeez combined have shown in there entire ODI careers. He does have parts of his game to work on but needs to be given a long run in the side.

Most encouraging part about his play, sadly, was his endeavour to rotate the strike and his urgency between the wickets; sad, because this facet is a staple of shorter format cricket and so few of our players are accomplished in this area.
 
He isn't the new Sharjeel or Anwar but some people have immediately compared him to Aamer Sohail in terms of batting style. Given Sharjeel makes a comeback then we would have a devastating opening pair.

Yeah at that age for me the 2007 WC was going on even though I didn't even know about it, whereas the 2011 WC was the first one I watched and got into cricket properly.

I don't think sharjeel is a leg side hack as showed during the Oz tour

Short ball weakness is natural to Pakistanis, specially when they are playing even PSL on low and slow wickets. This is something we have to improve, env needs to change, you cannot blame young blokes...

Investment in Hasan, Sharjeel(minus the scandal), Shadab is paying off, its time for trying young batsmen, what we have to loose? - Anybody can be better than Azhar, Shezad, Hafeez.
 
Still too early to say that he looked good yesterday. Opinion can be set after 2 or 3 series
