Seeing as though old-school quartet of masters Pacino/Deniro/Denzel/Penn haven't done anything good in a while, I would have to say it's between Christian Bale and Di Caprio currently.

Depp has always been a favourite but hasn't done anything good in a while either.

:yk

Matt Damon.

Leanardo Di Caprio is pretty awesome as well.

Downey Jr. at the moment :p

Iron Man and Sherlock Homes were absolutely brilliant

Most favorite are Leanardo Di Caprio and Tom Cruise.
Others include:
Jason Statham
Sylvester Stallone

christian Bale!!!!

American psycho, the Dark kninght, The prestige!!

Try Bale's Harsh Times and you'll know how versatile he is...his west coast vato/barrio accent and demeanor is uncanny...I dare Caprio, Downey, or even Depp to carry this role and then turn around and do prestige...

The bit about Downey Jr. and Sherlock Holmes is laughable since he sucked big time in that role/movie, his English accent was horrible and if it wasn't for Mark Strong who plays the villian and happens to be another brilliant actor, the movie would have tanked...

Agreed - Bale is probably the most versatile and committed actor going around. His commitment to his roles is a bit scary (The Machinist followed by Batman Begins). How he did that is beyond me.

^Harsh Times was an awful movie.

The comment was about his acting...secondly, if you don't know the west coast/california barrio culture, you won't be able to relate or see the relevance either....

Christian Bale (American Psycho was truely something else)

Others:
Michael Caine

All actors are OK, except that disgrace to acting, Keanu Reeves.

Christian Bale
Leonardo Di Caprio
Will Ferrell
Edward Norton (based solely on his performance in Fight Club)

Russel Crowe is easily the best actor I have seen. 3:10 To Yuma and A Beautiful Mind were absolutely brilliant.
Tom Hanks is a genuinely good actor that I enjoy.
DeNiro and Pacino were some of the best gangsters I ever watched on screen.
Will Smith for his sheer on-screen charisma.

Chris Tucker
Martin Lawrence
Jackie Chan
Van Damme

Di Caprio if I had to pick one. Others are Bale, Crowe and what happen to Will Smith?

1. Johnny Depp

Liam Neeson - Always like his role in suspense movies

Matt Damon & Leonardo are always good.

Tom Hanks: He can do no wrong.
DiCaprio: he is still in 30s. He will be monster before 50.

Gregory Peck
Denzel Washington
Tom Hanks
Anthony Hopkins

Can't say I disagree with many of the above... putting legends aside (e.g. J. Nicholson, DeNiro, Pacino etc), and comedians (Vince Vaughn - THE man!, Will Ferrel, Stiller, Wilson etc), current top heads I'd say are: C Bale and DiCaprio - top of their game... Matt Damon was up there for me, though slightly behind the other 2

Denzel & Tom Cruise, followed by Matt Damon.

The Fighter was his best work..and thus the academy

From the current generation -

Tom Hardy. Flawless in everything he does. And has screen presence that seems to dwarf everyone else he works with, even if it's a master like Gandolfini. Keeps it simple but boy does he execute it well.

Also, Casey Affleck and James Mcavoy. They can headline any film they're in and keep me interested throughout. Something magnetic about their performances.

So current top 3 from the new era (ie post LDC and Bale)
1. Tom Hardy
2. Casey Affleck
3. James Mcavoy.

Tom Hardy among the recent ones and Daniel Day Lewis overall.

Logan Lermin and Shia really shine in Fury. They both have successful careers ahead.

Also, forgot to mention the perennially underrated Joaquin.

Couldn't agree more on that.
As for Logan and Shia i find Logan too detached in way of acting and Shia too quick to deliver his dialogues may be i'm judging them too early.I prefer Miles teller over those two as of now.

There are many favourites, Steven Segal, Chris Tucker, Martin Lawrence, Jason Statham and many more

Detached is a good way to describe Logan. Although I think that works for him. Have you seen Fury? I didn't rate Shia before that.

Miles Teller has too much of a jewface. Lol.

lol still has that humorous way of saying things and i'm yet to watch fury will rate him after that.

Do watch it. Logan outshone his more celebrated counterparts.
