My hunch is 2 from this game, Mexico & Croatia are the underdogs of 2018. At individual level, this Senegal side is as good as whatever African teams put in their history and unlike other African teams, this Senegal team is extremely tight in back line - France must be biting hands to allow their best U20 defender leave for Senegal. Kulibaly is easily among best few CBs of world, made Seria A XI of the season 3 years running.

Diallo (GK), Sabaly, Niang, Keita Balde - all could have played for France!!!! Tactically, they have kept Kieta Balde for last 35 minutes, and if he gets behind the ball against tiered Polish defense ......

Brilliant team, I wish them a run till SF.

Senegal played way below their capability; all of their players come from several Euro leagues, and the coordination is still missing. Germany has lost to Mexico - it might happen Senegal to take on ENG in 2nd round and Mexico/Swiss in QF!!!!!

Salah seems to be struggling big time with confidence after the injury. Not looked like his usual self at all. He found himself with a lot of space in the box and could not beat the defender. For Liverpool's sake hope he regains form and confidence before the new season.

I'm not sure why people (including the Russian fans) were so pessimistic about Russia's chances. Cheryshev, Dzyuba/Smolov and Golovin are all quality attackers, their midfielders are very experienced and fullbacks just as Fernandes are great going forward and provide excellent crosses. The CB's have been around for years and have a lot of experience to deal with high pressure situations.

They have a more balanced team that Egypt who are a poor side who rely on the spine of Hygazi, Elneny and Salah to do most of the work, while Saudi have no players who plays in a decent league and only qualify due to their region.

They've scored eight goals so far in the competition, and have looked solid defensively too. I think they'll easily qualify for the last 16 stage and give Spain/Portugal a good run for their money. Unluckily for Egypt, they have no quality going forward whatsoever outside of Salah who's not fully fit and looks rusty.

Group A definitely is the weakest group. I don't see any of these teams making it past the last 16, no matter who qualifies from the group phase. Hot take (maybe).

I was rooting for Egypt but truthfully they are a 1 man team and he was shut down well by Russia.

Actually Russia played way better than expectation. Egypt is still among top 35 in ranking while Russia is like 65; but as host they have prepared well and playing as an unit. They are on way to QF for sure (where most likely they'll meet France).

Technically, Egypt isn't out yet - Saudis beat Uruguay, Russians beating Uruguay also and Egypt crashes Saudis .... actually, still Russians can miss out, but they are through certainly.

In reality, I wish Cavani & Suarez don't break some record tomorrow.

Russia are better than I thought and Egypt aren't as good as
I thought. Home advantage seems to be helping Russia.

I'm just happy to see Japan winning. I have a lot of friends over there and everyone was so pessimistic with the change in coach and poor form. Russia have been using home advantage to the fullest and performing a lot better than expected.
