Finds of PSL 2017

May be Hassan Khan. He too cannot be clearly called a PSL find.

If Abrar had impressive outings he could have been termed a PSL find.

Find of PSL ... ?

Shadab Khan : the best of the lot, excellent bowler, fighting and strong stiker of cricket ball and excellent fielder... and above all, a calm head on shoulder.. def the find of the tournamnet.

Fakhar Zaman : strong striker, not too great a cricketing brain but it will come with experience.

Hussain Talat : only has played 2 innings so far but was great... nerveous but it looked good when he got calm.. def one to look forward

Hassan Khan : excellent, strong , calm and brave bowler... looks good in field and decent with bat and excellent with the ball....

any others? ...

Amad Butt, for sure. Batting looked good, bowling even better and his fielding is awesome. Yeah, he had a little bit of pressure which is why we didn't see spectacular performances but he is definitely one for the future.

Not many, which exposes the lack of batting talent.

i have seen saad ali bat on tv..he looks to be an excellent prospect......many rate ahsan ali as well..and the karachi opener shahzaib hasssan was hard done....u may take it as an excuse but pakistani young bats are very few who bats in top 5....

Ahsan is poor man's Hafeez. Nothing more than that. Saad Ali is a fine prospect.

Hussain Talat, Shadab Khan and Hasan Khan

I think these three guys should make it into Pakistan side in the near future. I am most impressed by Shadab Khan we need someone like him in ODI.

How can you say they don't have portential? I am here you are here if there is any merit in our selection they would be selected, after that who knows depends how hard the desire is to saty up there.

Too early for all three of them. We have only seen Talat for ONE game. Can't have people into the team based on one match alone. Shadab is a super prospect but a prospect nonetheless. Need more consistent performances than just 7 matches. No doubt he's supremely gifted and talented. But does he have the hard work in him to give performances like he has in the PSL consistently over at least another year. I would not pick any of them right now.

Hassan Khan doesn't look special to be honest where as Hussain Talat didn't bowl so can't say they can make it to the national side at the moment.

You may have seen Talat for one game doesn't mean that is the only game he has played. This is his record in domestics. Granted the FC numbers aren't great, but the List A and T20 numbers are very good.

And I'm not doubting the talent of any of them. Still too early for them to be in the team. As for Hussain Talat, majority of people here are advocating for him to be in the team based on the ONE inning that he played in the PSL. If he can perform consistenly in the domestic T20,ODI cups this years and then the PSL next year, only then should he be considered for the Pakistan team. I don't want us to be gifting cricketers Pakistani caps based on performance in one PSL.

talat was probably the best batsman in the recent list a tournament, not like he is coming off one innings

Of course I am not saying they would be a success. I am talking about talent alone and remember if you have played a little bit of criciket and understand the game you only need to take one look to see if a player has it in him. I can tell you Inzi record in domestic was even worst than Talat but he was selected for the WC 92. Similarly, Wasim did not even play a single first class game when was he selected to be in NZ tour by Miandad and Imran and finally Waqar Younis was playing in a domestic game when Imran spotted him on the TV and then selected.

Exactly. On top of that our domestic structure isn't like Australia or England where cricketers are refined and their skills are honed. Nope.. they only regress and regress.

It is better the sooner a talented youngster is plucked out of the system.

I'd play Hussain Talat and Hassaan Khan in the Emerging Teams Cup next month, and in the Pentangular Cup in May - then assess from there.

I wouldn't select any player in ODI squad based on his performance in PSL which is a T20 tournament. Those players have to perform in Pakistan domestic OD tournament before being considered for ODI team.

The awkward moment when Hussian Talat was one of the top performers of the domestic ODI tournament that just preceded the PSL.

Not ODI , it was list A.

And yes he scored a couple of centuries but i think he bats in the top order not at 6 where some people want to see him.

Domestic One-Dayers are called List A.

if you dont know much about a player better not to talk .talat is supremely talented and he desrves chance based on his domestic performance.

This would actually be a strong team

Babar
Shahzad
Umar
Fakhar
Hafeez
Sarfaraz
Shadab
Imad
Raees
Amir
Sohail Khan

Talat seems promising- he should be in the A team, potentially in the national team within a year if he continues to show promise

Hasan Khan is mehh.. I dont think he's good enough to break thru our spinner ranks

Shadab Khan is the real find here. No reason he shouldn't be playing alongside Imad Wasim in the ODI/T20 team. I think he's done enough to overtake Nawaz

Need to put him in the A team first. He looks good but I'm not convinced about plucking someone based on 1 domestic ODI tournament and 1 PSL game. If he can perform on A tours and in another PSL, then yes put him the team. Not now. I'm not overly inclined on putting Shadab in the team either but considering its a WI tour (relatively easy opponent), I guess it wouldn't be bad to throw him in the deep end and see what he's made off. I like the guy a lot though.

Yes they are. But they arent called ODIs.

Can u pin point what wrong i said?
sorry i thought u were the other guy whom i referring to you are right about him plying at 6 .....and by the our odi team has hafeez for what reasons??/ someone was saying that he is being selected...

Domestic cricket in Pakistan is not appropriate for young talenteds. These players shouldn't play too much domestic.

Successful era (Mid 80s to late 90s) of Pak Cricket came with a background of county cricket from late 70s into mid 90s. That's where stars were made.

If there are some sensible people at PCB, Best 30 players from under 23 pool should be drafted into county cricket for at least 3 seasons. They should stay with county teams and management even if they dont manage to play a lot of matches.

Hammad Azam, Umar Amin, Umar Akmal, Khurram Manzoor, M. Sami and many others ; There is a long list of promising talent ruined by our domestic system.

Shadab, Talat, Hassaan, Mir, Sami Aslam, Ammad, Shinwari, Rizwan, Ahsan Ali, Zeeshan Malik and at least 10 others should be facilitated to get a county contract for couple of seasons. THIS IS THE TIME in their career where it will be made or broken.

Kindly keep them AWAAAAAAY from Pak domestic system.

Also M Amir and Babar Azam should play 2 seasons of county cricket.

he could only tonk spinners. Did not demonstrate his ability against fast bowlers. Don't you think its too early?

Shadab should be drafted into the LOI squads immediately, but Hasan Khan is not international material, and there are too many superior players already in his mould for him to get a chance.

Talat will definitely play for Pakistan at some point, but I don't think it will be this year.

Inzi hinted that Shadab will be there. Hussain Talat is just unlucky that Misbah and co didn't see the light earlier. Now he will have to wait another year.

Another wonderful inclusion after Shadab could be Usama Mir instead of Yasir Shah in the ODI format.

Shadab will be in LO squad soon, probably vs West Indies judging the way inzi has been talking about him.Talat has ability, unlucky that he didn't play earlier in the psl. Some good performances in the next domestic tournaments and he won't be far off making his debut . Hasan Khan needs more time before be given a chance at international level.

Two things were hinted by Inzi:

1) Shadab's selection (Shadab Kabir lol!)
2) The return of Ahmed Shehzad ( Puranay player ko wapis lana chahra hu)

The rest will be similar to the squad that toured AUs.

No problem with those selections. I hope we see replacements for Wahab and Rahat in the odi squad.

How unfortunate it is to be Fakhar Zaman. You rule the roost during the initial stages and then your team gets eliminated and all your performances are over-shadowed.

Guys like KAkmal can perform in one or two matches and flop like no tomorrow in others but still be in selectors radar.

Exactly my feeling right now.. Fakhar did what is supposed to be done in T20s...

Don't think Hasan Khan has a future in International Cricket. For a spinner like him, he is too ordinary batsman to invest. May end as decent utility cricketer, but his biggest playing field could be PSL, BPL, CPL, League cricket in UK ....

Shadab should have a bright future, only if he tragets to become a top class leggi who can bat, like Warne, Qadir or even Benaud. Don't think he can be other way - that's Steve Smith. 20 years back, Afridi came with similar potential - his first 4 Tests had a 5for against Aussies, a 3for against IND, a match winning 141. Before that, he went to WSC in 1997 & made the team as an all-rounder who bowls full quota. Sadly, Afridi took the easier route of a slog master & neglected his bowling - he never made it remotely close to what he could have been - probably the first & only cricketer ever with 15K+ International runs & 1K+ wickets.

Talat is definitely one of the brightest find for few reasons. First, he has the physique to be a modern day power hitter in top order. Then, he bowls medium pace - probably can reach mid 130s with the effort ball. PAK's next 3 ICC assignments are in UK, UK & AUS - this kid an be the medium pace version of MoHa in those tournaments.

Third is technicalities of his batting. There are many, many left handed batsmen in PAK - more or less 90% of those are hacks, leg side slogger, best example is Fakhar Zaman whose follow through after cover drive ends towards mid wicket. Main reason is most of those players are natural left hander & their power comes from bottom hand swing. In last 10 years, apart from Haris, I have seen 3 PAK left handed batsmen to play free flowing cover drives through off side on either feet - Butt, Taufique Umar & Amin. May be Farhat & Sami as well, though Sami is extremely limited in shot making.

Now, each & every of these 3 (or 5), are natural right hander, which is their top hand in a left-hand stance. This allows them a free flowing drives on top hand & elbow, instead of those ugly swing by Fakhar or Tannu from bottom shoulders. Now this kid is a natural right hander & his drives, cuts & particularly inside out lofted drives indicate that his batting is based on top hand - he can be a fantastic opening partner of Ahmed & he actually can be better than Sharjeel. He is taller, better in shape & has the skills to maneuver singles - add to that his off side shot making ability, a tremendous potential.

*Historically, this natural right handers, batting left handed are proven to be the most ascetically pleasing batsmen & extremely strong through off side - I can give a long list but just few names should be enough

Lara, Sangakkara, Gower, Nail Hervey, Andy Flower, Fleming, Hussey, Gilchrist, G Smith, Lloyd, Tubby Taylor, Ganguly, Greeme Pollock, Thorpe, Tamim ............. these are all naturally right hander - and almost all of them are fantastic drivers through the V. That free flow of top wrist & elbow is the key.

No comparison yet, but hardly any PAK left-hander could have played that lofted 6 over extra cover, that too against a spinner. Must be given best chances to work with Arthur as early as possible, otherwise in a year or 2, Basit Alis will turn him into Awais Zia ..............

Good Post as usual!! :(

I agree that Talat and Shadab are two clear standout youngsters. As a Pakistani fan the most frustrating part thought out history is that we have worst batting avg at nurturing the talent...Management and organization almost takes no responsibility of polishing them, if they are successful its up to them, if they are not its also up to them, then what's the fracking point of this institution. Last generation top talent Asif, UA, Amir, NJ, Sharjeel, Harris,Sami etc were all lost for one reason or the other. What was left, second and third tier talent

but we did not see how hussain talat bats against fast bowlers. Recently, if a bowler bowls above average fast, then our batsmen appear uncomfortable. Don't you think?

Great post. I agree Talat is a great find. Although some posters are adamant that he should play more first class and one game is not enough to judge but I think you can judge by his shots and balance that he is definitely a class above some of the other batsmen as you have mentioned.

Shadab Khan too is a great find for us and I think he can be a better batsman than Warne or Abdul Qadir with his skill set.

Hassan Khan is a great fielder. Bowling is ok, I think we have too many others fighting for a his spot in the team which is why I think he will find it tough to make the cut into the Pakistani team.

I would also like to add Asif Ali to this list who looked very composed in the Islamabad v Karachi game and the only batsman who looked to be comfortable while some major international stars failed. He also has decent hitting ability so I would also earmark him for the future.

Shadab, Talat, Hassan and Asif suggest Pakistan have enough players in the domestic circuit. Our selectors are just not good enough to recognise the talent. In Inzi's last interview he did not even say the names of the players correctly which suggests he is not serious with the role. Pakistan needs a selector who works over time and continuosly judges and analyses the players. Unfortunately we have never had a good selection committee.

I would get all three into the A squad as soon as possible. i would look to fast track shadab into our t20 setup. Talat looked a good player and having him in the squads would help him. Would be great to see fakhar zaman and shadab graduate into the full squads this year!

Shadab seems to have this x-factor. He can be our Mr.Everything in the cricket team. I hope he continues to work on his game and does not get distracted by this sudden fame.

but we did not see how hussain talat bats against fast bowlers. Recently, if a bowler bowls above average fast, then our batsmen appear uncomfortable. Don't you think?

I think, playing fast bowling in entirely dependent on the wickets you play your domestics. Playing swing or spin needs more technical adjustments, but playing flat out fast bowling is more of a reflex & how quickly you get in to position. PAK players are not bad against fast bowling, rather they struggle on movement. Most of these players have played their entire career on wickets at home, compared to which UAE wickets are like WACA, therefore their balance & reflex isn't that sharp to play raw pace. I don't think it's a major problem - few months of practice on faster wickets should help players. For example, PAK players looked really good on the fastest wicket in UK (Oval) after few weeks there & their batting performance against Starc in AUS indicates that it's a quick fix.

It's a classic case in other sports as well - Southern Europe has gone almost 100% clay court without any grass court & hardly any hard court - Spanish, French & Italian Tennis players are dominating slow surfaces, but they are struggling in UK & hard Courts. Few years back, Nadal skipped every clay court tournament before Wimbledon barring the French Open & the Italian Open (previous week of French open) - he indeed beat Federar that year at Centre Court.

Same was the case in Soccer - till early 90s, it was considered that Latin (& Spanish) players can't play English game - apart from Ardiles, none actually survived more than one season. Those skillful Latin players were not strong enough to compete with physical hit & run English game on heavy surface. Since 90s, English grounds has improved considerably & since then Latin, Spanish players are dominating English game, which has gone even faster now.

I don't think it's a technical issue - making some of the domestic wickets faster & bouncier, it can be solved in a season.

Usman Khan shinwari really improved as tournament progressed. He looked awful in first game but look what a run of games can do. I wish our emerging batsmen got a good run and players like shahzaib too

Shinwari should replace Tanvir in the national team
Fakhar should replace Sharjeel
Shehzad should replace Khalid
Kamran should replace Umar
Shadab should replace Saad Nasim
Hassaan should replace Rizwan
Sohail should replace Amir
