First impressions in international cricket - Mohammad Abbas

How is that responsible for the lack of pace bowlers ? Wahab Riaz is one of the fastest bowlers we have and he's played far too much Test cricket under Misbah who should've dropped him a while ago.

How many youngsters have debut under Misbah?? - All were middle age trundlers...Wahab has serious wrist release problem, but despite that he has won quite a few test in Asia for us... I am not advocating for Wahab on seaming and green conditions, but for dry and hard surface he is still useful...Not really an allrounder bowler, Misbah has nothing to do with Wahab... But his tactics has made Amir less useful as well, again defensive mindset, bowlers are constantly bowling back of the length as primary mode of operation...

He threw away NJ, Sami, and kept Hafeez as an opener, NJ was more equipped to deal with pace and Sami was clearly better opener from every aspect. But youngsters have to walk on water before get the confidence of Misbah...Its like he will take developed player only, not going to invest in developing them...

Babar, Harris were not introduced at all, almost 2/3 years late. In Pakistani setup, you got to get players in early, spending 3/4 years in domestic ruins players, they don't develop there...Pakistan used to debut teenagers and U23 players all the time in test...Guys like Shadab and Hassan will take 2/3 years to get debut under Misbah, but then there talent is ruined, they will be normalized to Domestic standards...Harris like NJ was lost by Misbah's pragmatism...Taking UA out of test was another of Misbah's big blunder. He would have learned and developed a lot better in tests...

None of this is relevant to the lack of raw fast bowlers which was the original issue you raised.

Even then there are some young pacers like Sultan and Bashir emerging.

Has better batting technique than some of our top order batsmen.

Developing a bowler is a process, think of it like a product. Misbah does not look to develop player, specially bowler. Inzi had similar problem...Why else you would keep on picking average bowlers who are old, one after the other, there is no long term thinking behind it...We just cannot keep picking bowlers randomly because one of them had good domestic season...

There is no incentive or pressure on bowlers to pick up pace and fitness...Look at Imran Khan, Rahat Ali, Sohail they had terrible fitness and no learning, but in order to win Misbah all they have to do is bowl economical spells, that's what Imran did for a while until he got exposed on tour... This is not how Imran Khan operated

We can blame the system, but from the same system better bowlers have came...Captain demanded more at national level...Again going to culture of speed first, because that means better fitness, aggression and handwork not to mention impactful pacers...If pace is not even a criteria, only last season domestic stats, that's spreadsheet cricket, which has never worked for Pakistan in past...There are millions of PPers asking for Fawad Alam, who is absolutely rubbish batsman!!

sometimes i really get annoyed with some posts.

when this guy wasnt getting selected people complained and now when he is selected and playing people are complaining that he hasnt got pace.

what did u guys expect? his non selection was obvious due to his slow pace.

however on merit i think guy deserves a run of 3 test games before making a conclusion on him

Boring. Please just bring Junaid back and let him partner Amir and leave it at that, okay? We need these two opening the bowling in England, New Zealand (apparently we are touring them again) and South Africa next year.

I never called for his selection. I didn't even know who he was till now.

spot on, hes performing on the domestic circuit so he got his chance, hopefully he will be discarded soon if he isn't good enough.

On a sidenote would you guys advocate the return of Mohammed Asif judging by the lack of viable options available.

Sadaf is basically the left handed version of this guy.

Sadaf is a different bowler. Abbas is more of a seam bowler while Sadaf is a swing bowler.
Abbas bowls a different line and will get his wickets edge to the keeper/slips. Sadaf's most wickets are bowled and lbw.
Also have yet to see Abbas's yorker skills while Sadaf is superb in that and thats why a much more successful one day bowler with avg of 18 over the span of 5 years and Abbas has an avg of 30 (numbers do tell something).

Abbas averages 22 in FC. He deserves a decent run in the side at least.

I've seen more of Sadaf than Abbas. He isn't any different. Harmless trundler.

Koi baat nahin.

Talent bhai kabhe kabhe buhat zyaada hype kar jaatay hain.

He is no M Asif. I just alluded to the mindset of fans and followers.

If given 2-3 Test series than He will have a better Test Record (Ave,SR) than Wahab, Rahat, Imran & Sohail.

If instead of Bob Woolmer any of PP Pak members was incharge of Pak team than even the likes of Asif after averaging 191 with only 1 wicket in 2 Test would have been dropped from the Test team for ever and wouldn't have played ever again.

He looked ok. Was steady and kept a good line..He looks like he knows what he is doing..bowled the odd wide ball which really wound me up but otherwise looked fine..good new ball addition. Seems like he has a bit of a brain..could do well in england and New zealand.

Good bowling. I like his attitude he tries to take wickets. The only worry is lack of pace.

Looks like the perfect bowler for when the ball is doing a bit.

A little bit of swing and seam movement in helpful conditions and this guy is ideal.

Spreadsheet pundits have disappeared. Sadaf is basically the left handed version of this guy.

Sounds like a good endorsement. Sadaf is taller and gets more bounce, also a better ODI bowler historically. He was Abbas' bowling partner in domestics for many years and outperformed him until the last two seasons.

People are already writing him off after one test match smh.

I like him. He is not quick, but keeps moving the ball of the seam and in the air. If he could be a bit more consistent with his length that would be great.
A very good partner for Amir with the new ball.

Very, very mediocre.

Borderline height, no bounce, low on speed, disappointing wrist action.

His line and length are okay, but he hasn't got any tools. When the ball went soft he wasn't tall enough to strangle the scoring rate like McGrath and Asif did.

No international future.

Another dazzlingly useless prediction by me.......

Always good to come back to these threads and see who said what.

Its hilarious to see certain posters who go around acting like they are gurus of fast bowling get absolutely owned on this thread.

A very similar bowler to Imran Khan; will serve Pakistan well on pitches that support seam/swing movement.

Will struggle on flat pitches seeing that he doesn't bowl in excess of 130 km/h.

Ordinary.

Average. Next. Caddick indeed.

Another Abdur Rauf. Proper trundler, don't see him lasting too long

Trundler. Hopefully Hasan Ali will be back for next test.

Reminds me of Balaji,Kurivalla,Shabbir Ahmed.

I think we can agree we all got it very wrong about him lol, myself included :danish

Lots of people were wrong about him! People writing him off just because of his lack of pace.
