What's new

First Test between India [172 & 352/8d] and Sri Lanka [294 & 75/7] ends in a draw

Yadav must be the unluckiest bowler going around, apart from you know who, I've seen at least a dozen+ lollipops dropped of his bowling starting sometime last year!

India badly exposed here

No lol. Everybody, the Indians (and wannabe Indians including) already know the script of test cricket played in India.

Put some runs on the board and let the darter and chucker get wickets of batsmen can't play spin to save their lives :yk

Hahaha Hafeez disqualification still hurting
All bowler who chuck wear full sleeves
Hafeez ; Ajmal; Shoaib akhtar; shabbir ahmed and many more to come from land of bowlers
Falsely accussing Ashwin so let umpires report even once before defame genuine bowlers

You'd do well being the resident trumpster of this board :110:
Watched few overs of Ashwin just before tea.

His 'fast ones' are balatant chucks to my eyes.
It's a good thing you aren;t an intl umpire then, FAKE news :haha

I wonder where are most Indians who were having a blast when our inexperienced Pakistan test side lost to this Lankan team...now their ATG Indian side(according to them) are not even competing with Lanka at home.

Sri Lanka looks galvanized under Chandimal..should lead them in the odis too..this Lankan test team is pretty good make no mistake about it

We won;t lose this test, at worst a draw or win <- highly unlikely that atm.

Right based on 1.x innings, except only India batted under the lights while facing prodigious swing & seam on day one & two!

Pitch still playing tricks but Matthews playing superbly. Truly world class player. Sad his career is injury prone :(

we toured srilanka and won all the tests by more than innings just recently. just relax , just one indian innings under lights on green mamba wicket on day one wont decide an iota between the difference of quality of indian and otger b sides like lanka or pakistan.

Even if we win all the matches and success rate is 100% (which is better than 00s Australia, 70s West Indies) still there will be complaints and excuses (BCCI has bought all the matches or pitches/conditions everything are made to suit us!)

The match isn't over yet and a loss here dont mean much if India does well overseas and in a same way a won here while continue to lose overseas dont mean much either.

Exactly.

Pretty chilled out.

This is the best practice we can hope for.

Pacers were poor upfront, then got better. Ball not turning an inch so spinners will have to toil harder.

Won't be surprised if we bowl out SL for around 250 and then pile on runs.

But if SL could get to 300-350, they could seriously put pressure on us on the final day and hope to win the game while we would get a chance to save it.

Way better situation that turners or flatties where we demolish them.

ooops India what is happening????

:ashwin :ashwin :ashwin

Batting first happened.

Swing bowlers are unplayable here. Pitch has eased out with sun beating down on the pitch.

I doubt if Lanka will have enough time to bowl out India in 2nd innings and then bat again another 50overs to win the Test.

I expect Lanka to be bundled out around 250 giving then 100 lead. India will score close to 300 in 2nd innings. Which means Lankans has to chase these 200 on the final day in about 40-50 overs.

Go Lanka go. Get your first win in India.

Is this the mighty Indian seam bowling line up I have been hearing so much about? I only saw the highlights, but Apart from Buvneshwar, others seemed to lack control. Looks like they should bring in Bumrah if he can take the workload. Although must admit I haven't been following the Indian seamers that much.

Indian cricket team is the most overrated team in the world. Have been exposed so many times that it's not even funny.

Never liked umpires call.

Beautiful bowling by BK. H can swing the ball both ways from the same spot.

Pitch has come alive in the past 2 overs.

Shami moving the ball at ober140 clicks.

This is a funny pitch. Looks dead for a while and then comes alive out of no where.

WoW Dilruwan doing a Steven Smith & getting away with it #brainfades :100:

Sri Lanka need a big lead because they are batting last and even a target of 150-200 will be challenging.

This is either a draw or Lanka win.

I don’t see India picking any wickets until the new ball.

This is a strange pitch though. Some balls are flying to the keeper and same are going to the ankles. Every now and then the ball is zipping and moving.

Disappointed with Umesh Yadav. Terrible bowling. Spraying the ball and not using the conditions well. India could have played a batsman in his place there.

Overall, not looking good for India. Letting herath score all those runs on this pitch is pathetic.

India will bat some time after lunch. But they will not find it easy against lakmal. He can rip out the top order again. With only 5 recognized batsman on this pitch, it is a tricky situation for India.

Overall s of now, Lanka should be favs to win this. India shothope for a draw.

I think time has come for India to look ahead of Ashwin & Jadeja in test matches as well? (At least one of them should sit out.) On this pitch we could have easily had Pandya in and strengthened our batting!

If India was supposed to experiment in this series/match, then they should have got even the team balance right, should have really played Pandya at least on this pitch to see him if he could be part of scheme of things in South Africa...

Pandya is injured, and will play only the 3rd test (if at all)

No. Let's not get carried away. On some pitches, you can leave out one of them. But most of the time, both should play.

Dhawan is a fine player even in tests. He will walk into any countries batting XI even in tests.

Wonderful session for India. Great bowling display. And KL Rahul is such a treat to watch when he's in his zone.

He is very much in the scheme of things for SA. That's one of the reasons he was rested so that he doesn't burnout before the SA tour (considering his workload as an allrounder).

KL Rahul has got concentration issues. Otherwise, he has got complete skill set to become one of the greatest test opener of all-time.

it is true that pitch eased out than in first indian innings coz of rain.

But the funny part is logic of 'few ppl' in this forum..

when indian batsmen fail --> they r not talented & lankan bowlers are great

when indian batsmen bat well --> they r FTB's and lankan bowling is so weak..

Dhawan to smash a 125 ball 100 and make his seat booked up for the upcoming overseas tour.

Now Pujara will consume 50 overs for his fifty
Better for India to score quickly set 250 to chase & try to get lanka out

I reckon it will be a draw. Sri Lanka are the type of team to collapse but India will be batting for a long time as well as their lead is still small. If they get lead of 200 they could lose so probably won't declare until they get 250+ lead. If SL bowl tightly they'll be batting for AT LEAST 1 session; probably more as it will take about 50 overs min to get 200 more runs as the aggressive player Dhawan is now out. Even SL can last 2 sessions.

I think it will be close, maybe 6/7 for but probably you are right.

Ashwin/jaedja on day 5 is no koke, plus the quicks have their tails up already. A few early breakthroughs & it's 50/50.

Good pitch if we almost have result even with 2 sessions lost to rain.

This match took a U turn.

Looks like a draw. India needs to give Lankans some 230 run target in 50 overs and hope they can get Lankans all out.

Rahul and Pujara needs to play positively tomorrow. They should treat this like an ODI.

Pujara cannot play in any mode other than blockathon

Well well well......

If only we hadn't given SL tail extra 50-60 free runs by spraying it around, it would have been perfect.

With a 122 run lead, SLs were little FLUFFED up at the lunch time !!! Not at the end of the day though !!!!!

Dilruwan Perera was "unsure" about the pending review

Sri lanka Cricket (board) has said that there was no "signal" from the dressing room for Diluruwan Perera to take a review when he was declared out (LBW, bowler Mohammad Shami) by the on field umpire Nigel Llong.

""We wish to clarify the ambiguity surrounding the DRS appeal of Dilruwan Perera during the 3rd day"s play of the 1st Test in Kolkotta earlier this afternoon.

Contrary to the assumptions made, there was no "message from the dressing room" involved in the requested review", an official an official from Colombo said to this paper.

"Having mistakenly assumed that Sri Lanka were out of reviews, Dilruwan Perera had turned to leave the field when he heard Rangana Herath inquire from the on-field umpire Nigel Long if Sri Lanka have any reviews left, to which Mr. Long answered in the affirmative". "It was then that Dilruwan requested the review".

Section 3.2.3 of the Test Match Playing Conditions no team can seek help from dressing room.

According to this, it’s not just the batsmen but even the fielding team can’t take help from team members or staff in the dressing room.

"The captain may consult with the bowler and other fielders, and the two batsmen may consult with each other prior to deciding whether to request a Player Review. Under no circumstances is any player permitted to query an umpire about any aspect of a decision before deciding on whether or not to request a Player Review. If the on-field umpires believe that the captain or either batsman has received direct or indirect input emanating other than from the players on the field, then they may at their discretion decline the request for a Player Review. In particular, signals from the dressing room must not be given".

"We wish to place on record that every single Sri Lankan player and official is not only strongly respectful and bounden to uphold the rules and regulations of the ICC, but plays their game of cricket under the ethics and principles of true sportsmanship and the Spirit of Cricket", the official added further.

Sri Lankan team had received the ICC's Sportsman Spirit of the Game awasrd in the past.

tricky situation, if India do not score another 100 runs atleast or get out in next 20-25 overs, SL could win this match with Mathews and Chandimal promoting themselves.

If the weather was normal with sun, this probably would have been the best Test cricket pitch ever.

Enough swing and seam on the first 2 days, and I sure there will be spin on day 4 and day 5.

Due to excessive rain and clouds, the ball swung slightly more on the first 2 days. If it was just dry, there still would have been swing for the bowler, but would not have been unplayable as it was on the 1st day.

But, well done to Eden Gardens, what a great pitch!

Irrespective of how this ends, this is just good cricket to watch. Good contest between the bat and the ball. India needs to stick there for the next 10 overs, the new ball can make it tough.

Kohli should shield the tail-enders like how Lakshman used to till Lakmal goes out with his new ball spell. He is bowling realy well and that is too hot to handle for the likes of Bhuvi.

Useful runs by Kohli.. Ensuring that they don't lose from here anyhow.

Shanaka is bowling well too man, that is what makes it interesting to watch.

Wow wow that six against Lakmal.. This is why Kohli never ceases to amaze me. That perfection, bat speed, posture, technique and swag. ;) single handedly taking the game away from Lankans. Kohli you beauty!

This is good, bold and aggressive Test Cricket! Indian Test Cricket outfit is brilliant in terms of team composition, balance, intent and aggression...

Scintillating innings. That finish was just spectacular. Inside out over extra cover for a six against their best bowler.

Kohli proving who's the master yet again. One more hundred by shielding the lower order. Take a bow sir!
