2) Tendulkar
3) Steyn
4) Kallis
5) Lara

Warne unlucky to miss out.

Who are your pick?

Warne
Tendulkar
McGrath
Wasim
Ponting

In no particular order.

This list can change a bit with mood and time, but right now the 5 best cricketers I saw

Kallis
McGrath
IK
SRT
Gilly

I didn't see IK's best phase.

Last edited:
1.Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar
2.Virat Kohli
3.Shoaib Akhtar (most exiciting fast bowler ever)
4.Zaheer Khan (bowling to left handers) / Anil Kumble(Bowling to Yaseer Hameed)
5.Neil McKenzie

Donald, Steyn, Ambrose, McGrath and Gilchrist.

Tough call - I'll pick (last 4 not any particular order)

Imran
Warne
Wasim
Murali
Kallis

I like all-rounders & bowlers - but had I seen Viv live (in front of eyes - these 5 I have seen in Stadium), I would have replaced Murali with him, though at his best, Murali was a joy to watch for whole day. Kapil Panji comes at 6, just shed behind Murali.

If I go by Tv footage, I'll take Sobers & Lillee - but don't know whom to drop from those 4 :( Different generation, hence direct comparison shouldn't be done & I have posted many arguments on Sobers's stats; but boy, he was a treat to watch - it's like watching Sanga, Lara & Gower in one package; I do realize what Sobers had been like in an era when Hanif, Barrington, Boycott, Lawry, Cowdrey were other batting stars!!!

Very very Tough call.

Still in no particular order these are my pick.

Kallis
Warne
Steyn
Saeed
Ricky

I appreciate the thread..good job done op. A+ :)

1. Adam Gilchrist
He completely changed the role of wicket-keepers in the game. With him in the team, Australia always played with 12-men rather than 11. I regard him as the greatest cricketer of all time.

2. Shane Warne
He is #2 because there has been no spinner who even comes close to his skill level. He was probably the smartest and most clutch cricketer I have ever watched.

3. Sachin Tendulkar
None has performed so consistently for so long. His longevity is unmatched. He scored runs everywhere and against everyone.

4. Wasim Akram
He was fast bowling equivalent of Shane Warne. He is probably the most skilled fast bowler of all time.

5. Virat Kohli
This might surprise some but Kohli is the GOAT in the making. Arguably, the 2nd best ODI batsman in the history who is also improving in tests.

Sachin
Wasim
McGrath
Kohli
Kallis

This list is based strictly on the skills I have witnessed over the years I have watched Cricket.

Changes a lot with mood but here in no particular order. Also only picking players who Ive seen a lot of (so post 1999) & hence a guy like Waqar wont make the cut

Ponting/AB Devilliers
Wasim
Tendulkar/Kaliis (maybe kalls cuz of all round skill)
Gilchrist
McGrath

Been watching cricket since 2005, so didn't see the majority of the great Australians at there peak, so my picks are

Sachin
Kohli
Kallis
Steyn
Sangakara

Pointing,AB,Anderson,Greame Smith,Cook,Dravid,Younis,Murali, and Chanderpaul are all hounrable mentions

I really started watching cricket in 2010 so I didn't see many of the greats.

Virat has to be the best player I've ever seen. The way he absorbs the pressure during a chase and goes accordingly goes to show what a freak he is when he gets going.

Sanga comes next. The only word that I believe completely describes him is prestige. His cover drives are a thing of beauty.

Akthar. I didn't watch much of him but I got to see his bouncer to Kallis at the All Stars Game. That moment, he caught my support and I probably won't change my opinion on him. Not only that, he simply gets the adrenaline going.

Cook. No doubt the best opener of this generation. His ability to perform all over the globe is simply astounding.

Shewag. Most shots he played, effortless and totally mind blowing. Simple cuts without any feet movement makes you think whether he is in god mode.

Warne, Gilchrist, McGrath, Wasim and Lara.

I honestly couldn't look past the three Australians even though I badly wanted to include Ambrose and Steyn in that list. All five are indisputably once in a lifetime cricketers.

Lillee, Hadlee, Viv, McGrath, Garner, Ponting, Gilchrist.

In no particular order these players were game changers that would turn matches.

McGrath
Tendulkar
Warne
Lara
Steyn

Then you have the likes of Kallis, Ponting, Gilchrist and so on.

For me

A. McGrath bowling to Tendulkar
B. Laxman batting against Australia
C. Murali after his bowling action was challenged
D. Johnty Rodhes fielding
E. Chris Martin from NZ batting since he was worst batsman ever

Started watching cricket properly in 2010 FYI
In no particular order

Batsmen:

Virat Kohli
AB de Villiers
Sachin Tendulkar
Kumar Sangakarra
Misbah ul Haq

Bowler:

Dale Steyn
Mitchell Starc
Mohammad Asif
Mohammad Amir
Saeed Ajmal

Haven't been watching cricket for a long time so the players I've seen live

Virat Kohli
AB De Villiers
Kumar Sangakara
Dale Steyn
Misbah Ul Haq

1) Ricky Ponting
2) Sachin Tendulkar
3) Wasim Akram
4) Shoaib Akhtar
5) Shane Warne

In no particular order

Gilly
Ponting
Warne
Mcgrath
Tendulkar
Wasim

Have to say those 6 defined my cricket.

Adnan Akmal
Mansoor Amjad
Najaf Shah
Imran Farhat
Faisal Iqbal

Five of the very best I have seen in my time. Damn were these guys ummmm......... something

In 4-5 years time in the future this list will include Kohli

And Umar Akmal.

I'll go with

McGrath - Best bowler I've seen hardly anyone got the better of him in any form of the game
Murali - What he managed to achieve in all forms of the game despite everything is just unbelievable
Warne - Another one of a kind cricketer and a true entertainer from beginning to end
Kallis - Pretty much three in one right up there with Sobers and Imran
Gilly - Revolutionised the wk/batsman role in all formats

Tendu
Akram
Lara
Murli
Kallis

I have chosen one from all major test playing teams. Apologise to NZ and England.
