What's new

Fortress Gabba - Australia unbeaten there since 1988

Will the curse of Gabba activate in the last couple of hours left

Some nervous looking faces among Aussies already on the field as India gets nearer to pulling this chase off.

31 to win from 6.3 overs.

Fortress Gabba, we are coming!

15 to win from 32 deliveries, 5 wickets in hand.

#FortressGABBA

Just 3 runs to go,

BUT

India now has only 3 wickets left.

Pant is still there.

"What about the way they've constructed this chase. It's been brilliant. Tactically brilliant, the skills that we've seen on display from India have been brilliant."

Must say, India's approach and tactical genius has fooled all the fans and analysts.

They absolutely geniused their way to a win here.

No one saw this coming, NO ONE!

No one actually thought India would have gone for the win on Day 5.

Amazing, you would imagine it would take a star studded team of giants to breach GABBA.

In the end it was a bowling line up with combined experience of 5 tests and 13 test wickets lol.

Life is amazing and Cricket is beautiful.

Well played India. Truly the best side in the world.

Australia deserve this humiliation for their injustice with Usman Khawaja. Picked trash like Wade, Head, Green, Burns and Harris ahead of him :salute

Congrats India on a great win at the toughest test venue in last 30 years, add to that with such an inexperienced bowling line up.

People put too much stock in this whole fortress stuff which is nonsense. A team is only as good/bad as its present.

Past record at a particular venue with a different set of players in a different era means nothing at all.

Australian bowling should be ashamed of themselves. They have been dominated in most of the test matches by India. This defeat at their so called fortress has reduced the stock of Hazlewood and the already fading Starc dramatically.

To be honest Cummins bowled spectacularly.

Hazzlewood was average

Starc was utter trash.

Completely missed todays game due to some personal urgency.
Need to watch highlights at least 10 times.

India chased down the highest total at Gabba today breaking the 70 year old record.:14::14:

You miseed out on one in lifetime experience!

Watching highlights 10 times is not enough. You need to watch the recording of whole day. All 7 hours.

Cricket Australia and Queensland Cricket welcome today’s announcement by the Queensland Government that the Gabba would undergo a substantial redevelopment for the 2032 Olympic Games.

Nick Hockley, Cricket Australia’s Interim CEO, said the upgrade would ensure the Gabba remained a world class cricketing venue for many generations to come.

“The Gabba is one of the most important, iconic and historic cricket grounds in Australia and we are delighted that the Queensland Government has agreed to a major redevelopment should Brisbane win the right to host the 2032 Olympic Games,” Hockley said.

“Just as the 2000 Olympics bestowed upon cricket the dual legacies of Stadium Australia and the Sydney Showground – both of which became international cricket venues – so, too, would the 2032 Brisbane Games equip the Gabba with state-of-the-art facilities to rival any stadium in the world.

“Australian Cricket is fortunate to have had many of its major venues undergo upgrades in recent years and it would be wonderful to see the Gabba joining that list.”

Terry Svenson, Queensland Cricket’s CEO, said the redevelopment of the Gabba was a once-in-a-generation opportunity that would benefit cricket fans and players alike.

“A Brisbane Olympics would be a landmark event and to know the Queensland Government has identified the Gabba as playing a lead role in this is very exciting,” Svenson said.

“QC sees the great benefits of a redeveloped Gabba and the knowledge that cricket’s heritage and particular requirements will be considered in this process as a legacy from the Games is exceptional.”

2 years ago, Indian team led by outstanding knock from their talisman Rishabh Pant not only breached the fortress but went on to win the test series in Australia in what can be widely considered as one of the greatest comebacks of Indian cricket history. :inti

Not just Indian Cricket but world cricket... There is no other series that even remotely compares to that series given the very unique circumstances that the team ran into.

Cricket welcomes Gabba redevelopment

Cricket Australia and Queensland Cricket welcome and strongly support today’s funding announcement by the Australian and Queensland Governments that the Gabba will undergo a substantial redevelopment for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Speaking from Delhi where Australia is taking on India today in the Second Test of the Qantas tour, Nick Hockley, Cricket Australia’s CEO, said the funding confirmation would deliver a world class cricketing venue for many years to come.

“The Gabba is one of the most iconic and historic grounds in world cricket and we are delighted that the Queensland Government has committed to such a major redevelopment,” Hockley said.

“There is no doubt that Brisbane 2032 will leave an incredible legacy of a new, state-of-the-art Gabba that will ensure brilliant experiences for cricket players, fans, partners and the broader sporting community for generations to come.

“Australian Cricket has been fortunate to have had many of its major venues undergo upgrades in recent years and we are thrilled and very grateful that the Gabba will join that list.”

Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson said the Gabba redevelopment would provide certainty for cricket for decades to come after the Olympics and Paralympics.

“The Gabba has been a great sporting asset for Queensland for many years and its status will continue to benefit the State,’’ he said.

“It’s reputation as one of the finest cricket grounds in the world, with a pitch that has few rivals, will be greatly enhanced by the redevelopment.”

“Queensland Cricket and Cricket Australia look forward to working closely with the Queensland Government as this momentous project takes shape and is excited about the opportunities that will emerge for cricket throughout this process.”

Lions, Queensland cricket plea for new Brisbane stadium

A frustrating wait over the Gabba's future has prompted a joint plea for a new 2032 Olympic stadium from tenants Queensland Cricket and AFL club Brisbane Lions.

A letter has been sent by the sporting bodies to Premier David Crisafulli urging him to reconsider his new stadium ban, backing a proposed $3.4 billion Victoria Park venue as the Brisbane Games centrepiece.

They now want to meet with the premier to discuss the Gabba's future, seeking assurances over a venue plan to ensure both sports will survive and "doesn't send us broke".

Mr Crisafulli threw out Labor's Olympic venue plan after winning the October 26 election, with an independent body set to launch a 100-day review and provide a new 2032 blueprint.

However the Liberal National Party leader has repeatedly ruled out building a new Olympic stadium.

Queensland Cricket and the Brisbane Lions are unfazed, saying they hope "common sense will prevail" when they speak with the premier after enduring an anxious wait over the Gabba's future.

"We're hoping to meet with the new premier and his team over the next couple of weeks," Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson told reporters on Friday.

"(It is) just really to talk about what our expectations are but I guess more the frustrations that we have had over the last 18 months."

The Gabba was initially set to be knocked down and rebuilt for $2.7 billion under the Labor government for the 2032 Games before that was scrapped amid a backlash over rising costs.

It was then set for a $600 million Olympic facelift under Labor before plans went back to square one under the new LNP government.

Mr Svenson said "everything is on the table" for their government talks but backed the proposed 55,000-capacity Victoria Park stadium pitch.

An independent Olympic venue review earlier this year claimed the Gabba would reach the end of its life in 2030 and was in "poor condition".

Uncertainty over the ageing facility's future has ensured the Gabba is scrambling to host prestige international cricket matches as Australia's No.5 ranked Test venue.

Mr Svenson said Queensland Cricket and the Lions wanted a decision on the Gabba's fate sooner rather than later so they could plan for the future.

Both sporting codes would need to find another home venue if the Gabba is revamped or replaced, with Queensland Cricket alone facing up to $40 million in displacement costs.

"If displacement is back on the table we actually need to have that conversation with the government," Mr Svenson said.

"If this place gets knocked down and rebuilt where do the Lions play, where does Australian cricket play?

"It's important for us to have certainty that it doesn't send us broke."

Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie on Friday said he had not seen the letter but was "happy to look into it".

However, he backed its 100-day review, sticking with the government's "no new stadium" mantra.

Set to be demolished.

Congratulations England fans. You used to get spanked there everyone.

The happiest memory as an Indian cricket fan since 2011.
My lifetime happiest memories
2001, 2007, 2021

Saddest: 1996,2003

It looked pretty outdated when compared with modern stadiums like Adelaide Oval and Perth Stadium. I reckon they needed a new stadium in Brisbane.

Not sure about Gabba, but WACA was a legendary stadium for Aussies but they abandoned that too.
