From united front to solo exit: PCB’s cowardly backtrack in the Bangladesh-ICC fiasco and its reputational cost

why are Indians so obsessed with what Pak will do? Just relax and let the government of Pak make their decision. It’s out of PCB hands, they will follow whichever decision is made higher up

IYO, does Pak have the necessary qualities to stand up for "justice" as @DeadlyVenom put it . Becos, they will never get another opportunity like this ever.
 
Pakistan's case is weakened by the following facts

- ICC and BCCI have already granted the PCB the hybrid model at a place ie Sri Lanka where they face no security issues

- Bangladesh Cricket Board has accepted the ICC decision to kick them out of the T20 WC and have announced they will not appeal the decision or go to the CAS. This way they will only lose out on their participation fee but because the Bangladeshi govt did not give the BCB permission to tour India hence why the ICC can't block their shares. That said it is reported that the ICC and BCCI threatened the BCB that if they escalate this further via appeals then they will block their shares as well and they are still throwing a carrot at BCB ie pipe down, we can still forget all this and get you back in the T20 WC and shift your games in Sri Lanka if Pakistan boycotts

PCB tbh should pipe down now. There is zero logic in unnecessarily creating any further drama

Correction. ICC did not kick them out of the WC. ICC choose not accommodate the temper tantrum by an worthless baord for major reshuffle of the WC26 schedule. BCB choose not to participate.

BCB has violated a signed contract and there will be consequences.

Cricket is simply not important enough for any meaningful threat. Cricket contributes less than 0.80% to BD's GDP.

Who cares if BD get penalized in cricket? Cricket has turned into a farcical Indian sport. It is also a dying sport.

It will always backfire when you start looking for honor and pride in the wrong places. For god’s sake this is one cricket player who was released by a private league in a currently unfriendly country. Grow up!! This reaction could be pardoned for a commoner (fans, analysts etc. who have no real skin in the game) because most people by nature tend to be driven by emotions but for a nation to not be calculative, analytical, and thoughtful before acting reeks of incompetence and foolhardiness. Are the bureaucrats not good enough there or are the government ministers that powerful and stupid at the same time that they don’t pay heed to any advice?
I had really thought better of the governments in terms of them being smart, strategic, and calculative, and hence my disappointment, but now I know better.
 
I don’t get it why people are so delusional, or only prefer to argue from one point, if pcb wanted to completely boycott the India games prime minister A.. would have given a different excuse and they have enough excuses such as India supporting BLA and recent terrorist attacks on Pakistan, Naqvi clearly blamed India for it, but they choose to back Bangladesh cricket, which in the end result they did. So there’s no argument left for them not to return to the game but they must have also closed a deal in the back ground which obviously ICC won’t announce as of now since Jay Shah is in charge to face his face but I am sure it will come out sooner or later.

The BCCI, ICC can promise PCB, Naqvi the moon for now, once the Feb 15 game takes place, what is to stop them from backtracking and back stabbing the BCCI? It appears that the PCB learnt nothing from the 2014 MoU saga

Naqvi is not stupid as per you, but what exactly did he achieve here? All the chatter around “ICC ne ghuthney tek diye” makes no sense unless anything concrete came out of all of this. E.g., Bangladesh is still not playing. PCB is getting the same $ from the tournament.

Bangladesh is still being compensated and not be penalized, plus they get to host additional icc tournament.
If ICC was so blunt on punishing PCB, why would they travel to Lahore and spend 6 hours in negotiations.
As for PCB, will have to wait and see.
At the David vs Goliath David survive with the help of PCB.
 
When someone begs on their knees, we gotta show some softness.. PCB showed softness because ICC was on its knees here..

Humour me! Why did ICC travel to bangladesh to resolve the impasse. Perhaps, BCB had spine to not bend when ICC comes knocking at the door but PCB quivered seeing Imran Khwaja and the fate about to hit Pakistan far worse than Bangladesh.

Please stop overestimating PCB’s power by posting irrelevant stuff which can be easily debunked.

Do you have any source which claimed ICC was cutting off Bangladesh’s share earlier? As per reports, ICC was already planning to give them their share.

Also, is Bangladesh getting tournament participating fee as well? Because the agreement’s wording in very vague on this.

And that’s the thing here. All media used terminology like Bangladesh “could” lose. Nowhere ICC said any of these stuff themselves.

This is just another version of Muted Pycroft apology video to convince Pakistan public that PCB stood their ground - off-ramp to de-escalate after being all high and mighty.

1st PCB said we support Bangladesh and boycott world cup

2nd Pak PM said in the parliament we will play world cup but boycott against India to show solidarity towards our brothers Bangladesh

3rd Pak PM said we will play against India on 15th February.

This is 2nd time Pakistan backstabbed Bangladesh

The ICC press release only specifically mentions that BD won’t be penalised for non compliance participation.

On the participation fee, nothing I could see. Afaik, they haven’t participated in the tournament, where’s the question of a fee. But that’s only my opinion for now

I think the hosting rights carrot was ICC's way to refuse any participatuon fee.

Agreed and so I thought.

Honestly, what did even PCB achieve then? ICC as reports were already planning to give them their ICC share. Which is probably why BCB chief decided to accept the punishment and not take the issue further.

I’ve addressed that in a prior post.

BD got some grudging respect for sticking to their stance in the face of an arrogant BCCI. Apart from that not much and I think they were relieved to compromise.

PCB, you’re right, I dunno.
