HBO's latest masterpiece, based on a book series.

This show is amazing. Literally. Amazing. Each and every episode has been almost flawless, the characters feel so real and believable and the story is engaging. You actually invest a lot into Ned Stark.

In only 8-9 episodes or so, you went from almost hating Khal Drogo to loving him. What a badass character, hopefully he doesn't die anytime soon.

Anyone else a fan? If you're on the fence I highly recommend it. This show is bananas.

P.S - Spoilers may be in the thread, read with caution. Also if you've read the books, don't spoil it.

Yes! It has gotten very interesting now. I would like to see how Khalesi is able to keep her reign over the people for one thing. Freaky stuff in the last episode with the k.a.l.a jadoo

Will Ned Stark make a comeback à la Gandalf the White in LOTR?

I don't think so GB. I was pretty shocked tbh,

Spoiler:

He was pretty much the main character. Done. Dead. The show does get into magic from what I hear, so maybe. But I doubt it.

End.

Also, John Snow is legit. Robb has turned into a badass.

where you been Goat???? didn't see you in TP for few days?

You think Khal Drogo will die GOAT, in the next episode? And what do you reckon will happen with Arya and Sansa?

Waiting for the last episode.and i am sure prince joffrey will die in a gruesome way for what he was done, maybe this episode or maybe next season

Arya's gonna be around for a few seasons I think. Sansa, not so sure.

Khal won't die next episode but he'll die soon. Kind of a shame given how well they cast the role. Yeah I'd love to see Joffrey die a terrible, terrible death. I think they might kill Jaime beforehand - or maybe no one, we're all forgetting about the White Walkers

I have read all the books, never watched the series.

The books were great until the last one, which sucked big time. I mean awful.

On top of that, the last book was released many years ago. People have been waiting for the next one for like 5-6 years or more.

I lost interest in all that time.

Wouldn't mind checking out the HBO series to see how it compares to the books tho.

It follows the book series very closely from what I've heard BB. Like exactly.

Give it a try, I think you'll love it.

Just got the first book from the library.

I prefer reading it instead of watching it. Shows/movies always miss the details.

Lots of rave reviews. I hope it's as good as people say it is.

Are the books really good?reason i ask is though the series is surely a condensed version, but in books what is extra is mostly the descriptions, like there would be pages about lannister's history, stark's family history etc etc along with numerous descriptions of every place-the palace, the warfields etc etc..which i have had enough of after reading a lot.

Saw the fist episode.

Brilliant. Can't wait to get it off my cousin who has most of them downloaded.

I can't remember exactly at the moment, but I think there are 4 books in total right now.

The last book sucks rotten eggs. It not only sucks, it doesn't even have the main characters in it. If anyone tries to read it after reading the first 3, I suggest skim reading it or skipping chapters altogether.

The rest are excellent, especially the first two.

The author, George R.R. Martin, has gotten a lot of heat from fans for his awful last book and because of the length of time he's taking to get the next book out. Personally I think the guy made the story so complicated he doesn't know where it's going anymore.

As far as books vs. movies/tv goes, books are almost always more immersive than movies.

One of the only exceptions I can think of off the bat is the Godfather. The novel was excellent and the movie was even better.

Regarding books adding descriptions/details, that's what books are man. You can't have a novel without descriptions, etc.

But they are not pointless, meandering, boring descriptions/details which some books have.

I'll check out the series when it becomes available on dvd.

One of the other things about reading a book and then watching the movie is that you form a conception in your mind of the setting/characters, etc. Often when you watch the movie, you're a little disappointed that the movies don't match your conceptions.

Eg., characters that are cool in books are dorky looking morons.

has been recommended to me by a lot of folks, will start watching it once I stop obsessing over the blondie in Chuck.

Sean Bean is a terrific actor, so should be good.

I read the first couple of books then started to get bored with the whole thing. I think it did start getting a little over-complicated but the first book was great. The tv series is pretty good, only Joffrey looks like he should be in a Harry Potter film rather than Game of Thrones. But in general I would say it's a very good conversion to the small screen.

For ****'s sakes man my HBO stream died on me with 15 mins left in the season finale. :(

Just a heads up - I won't be watching it till the morning, usually the good streams are up by then. Spoil it for me and I will find you, and I will kill you.

I'm gonna have to wait till then too. I have it worse man, just 15 freakin' minutes. And Season 2 will probably take a year to come. I might have to read the books...too bad they're all 1000+ pages.

That was dope. So much for season 2 to work with.

You finish watching it S?

Yeah man. That was a proper ending. The show just blew wide open. Spring 2012 :(.

SPOILER

Its funny how they already killed off 3 of the main characters though. I mean Ned Stark and Drogo? I thought they were in it for the long haul and was hoping they'd form an alliance to wipe those Lannister beauty queens out. The dragons just blew everything out of the water though.

Personally loved the scene with Robb and his banner men. That was awesome.

They killed Sean Bean, I won't watch it anymore. Star actor draws in crowds, some will continue to watch, others like me will lose interest. Was a good show, but too many shameful and indecent scenes for you to watch it all, have to keep skippping parts.

man Lord Eddard Stark died..sooooo sad..and Finale was eppiiiccccc!!!!

im so sad this season finished..now what :(

Haha yeah. Futurama starts this week I think, I <3 that show too.

I might start watching Breaking Bad season 3 again.. how do you watch it VM?

IF you liked Game Of Thrones, you'll love Spartacus Blood and Sand and its prequel Gods Of The Arena. I loved Games Of Thrones but Spartacus remains the most badass show of this kind for me.

Also another show like this is Rome (also an HBO series). I love shows like these. There's also Pillars Of The Earth good storyline but not much violence and nudity/sex like Spartacus and Games Of Thrones :danish:zoni

I watched Spartacus. It has nothing on this show. It just competes on badass moments and sex scenes, there wasn't a lot of substance beneath it. Good show, but not on GoT level imo. Spartacus was obvious with its over the top scenes, it did it purposely to shock. GoT is just.. classy.

Also Drogo ripping out a tongue >>>> any Spartacus moment.

SPOILER ALERT

I honestly could not get in to Spartacus Gods of the Arena. The story didn't really appeal to me. Haven't watched Blood and Sand though. Game of Thrones got really interesting after the first few episodes and I see it as being more than just sex+violence. It seems to have just the right touch of fantasy/mythical creatures (like with the dragon eggs, and white walkers) without seeming too unrealistic with the plot.

I particularly liked Khalesi's/Daenerys's character-especially how she became a stronger woman as the show progressed. Actually, all the characters seem to be developing quite well so far. I like how previously not so important characters like Tyrion/the dwarf, are taking on more important roles. I do wish Sansa had pushed King Joffrey to his death in the last episode though...and put his head on a stake for all to see.

And Drogo has to be the most beastly character ever created.

Dunno if I can name websites, but I usually watch it on Project Free TV. I always ended up missing the episodes on TV, so had to rely on the internet.

The books are awesome...
the thing about the books, the people are real.
other than Stark no one is truly evil or truly good, everyone has their grey areas,
and yeah too many characters in the later book, almost everyone gets developed into mail characters :)

warning for the faint hearted .... bad things happen to good people too, even honorable people make mistakes because they are vengful... thats how this story rolls.

^That > Any finale moment ever in any other series ever. I gasped in real life at that scene, GoT hasn't got me to do that yet.

Story wise yes GoT is deeper, but they both gripped me equally. Except Spartacus is based on real life events, Song Of Fire and Ice is fiction so its got leeway to be really deep but what Spartacus does it does really well.

Going back to GoT (and lets try to not turn this into a **** contest between Spartacus and GoT) I'm REALLY digging the nightwatchers vs whitewalkers part of the story. That speech about which war is more important was breathtaking.

I was disappointed with final episode of the season. I thought the first season reached its peak in the 9th episode, so perhaps I had too high expectations for the last episode. But I'll continue watching it in the next season for sure!

They kind of had to follow the way the first book ended. And it essentially ended in a manner so as to setup the next book/series.

There wasn't any real season finale to speak of, except for the dragons hatching.

I thought the hatching dragons was a perfect way to end the season. I actually liked the last episode quite a lot.

It would be quite fascinating to read/see a similar story played out in an Eastern i.e. South Asian/Middle Eastern setting.

I don't think it would even air in an Eastern setting.

GoT is not exactly the most appropriate TV show out there *ahem ahem*

Lol. I'm not talking about *those* parts. But the general theme, of merging history and fantasy. The political intrigues were just as fascinating closer to home, if not more. And the myths and folklore more ancient.

Ahh ok loll
Then yes, it would be quite fascinating. I thought you meant, "let's reproduce the TV show as it is in an Eastern setting". Whoops.

In that case, the scenes from the parts on The Wall would be all that would be left in the show, after the censors got done with it. All guys club there, sworn to celibacy to boot.

great show,, the ending was epic! can't wait for season 2
has anyone read the entire series of books by martin?

And the show goes on

Has to be in the top 5 greatest tv shows of all time. The only criticism is that its full of unnecessary rude scenes..

Also, if theres any gamers in this thread, there is a game called Dragon Age : Origins...it basically stole the game of thrones storyline....its a very good game...

April will be here soon enough, two more months to go. Can't wait.

SK may have talked me into reading the series as well. Will definitely at least pick up book 3.

Bro picked it up a while back but I doubt I'll play after seeing the graphics. Next up for me is Kingdoms of Amalur.

I recently tried it out and while I was playing it, I was thinking to myself, hang on....these deathspawn are alot similar to the white walkers.. and everything about it is GOT...the graphics are decent tbh...

I just watched the new trailer looks like its going to be good. I myself am one who doesn't like the "western fantasy" genre. People think about knights and wizards in medevil Europe I think about the plague!

What I really like about this series its more about the charecters and powerplay rather than fantasy, i hope the 2nd season doesn't overdue it with WhiteWalkers and sticks to what the show is best at

am 200 pages into A Clash of Kings...hope I finish it before the series starts :farhat

What's so 'noob' about reading books?

Tumne bhi kabhi zindagi mein paree hongi...

One hell of a series.
I just wanna see those White Walkers in the 2nd season. :kapil

Unbelievable show.

Finished the season in two days! Way too addicting.

Episode 9 was just...

AZ - That was wonderful , Tyrion's the best character in the series.

I wish Khal Drogo's son at least had lived :( The guy deserved the death of a warrior, not because his p[arents didn't give him immunity injections after birth :23:

Looking forward to Danny's dragons beating the crap out of her enemies. Not going to read the book before i'm at least half done with the 2nd season. More exciting that way.

Danny, Tyrion, Arya and Jon Snow all the way !

Yea the two deaths were heart breaking, i actually didn't know that Sean Bean was gonna die in this movie as well like he always does. Then things changed so quickly for Mr.Stark :/ I felt so bad for Arya, actually had tears in my eyes as it reminded me of some of my sad memories.

RIP Ned Stark.

And Khal Drogo  Guess that was the only way for him to die. Nobody beats him in a fight.

RIP Khali Drogo, kamalaitorawaataaa !! :23:

The season ending scene was epic as well.

Do not read if u havnt watched it yet..

I've read half of the first book. I must say it's even more emotional reading it because every scene is very detailed, so you go through it very slowly...I haven't got to the part where they execute Ned Stark yet, can't wait to see how its described.

The book gives you a greater insight about the rebellion in which Ned and Robert were part of and also explains what happened to the Mad King, Aerys Targaryen..

I don't want to start reading the second book, in case it ruins the show.

Winter is coming!!!!!!:(

^ am 600 pages into the second one, lol.

couldn't wait to see how the story progressed :D

haha so true...could throttle that POS Joffrey.

Haha I can't wait either tbh, I'm literally counting down the days left till april. I thought I might aswell read the first book to pass some time.

I heard the second season is far better than the first which makes the wait worth it! The only worrying thing about this show is that NO character is safe :'( which is also the reason why its such a great show..

My disappointment with the first season is they didn't show much of the White Walkers. They begun with white walkers and then no white walker till the end. Just a fat Zombie in between.

I wanna see some White Walkers !

No doubt, Khal Drogo was the best character in that season for me. Brilliant acting.

Complete beast mode in the few fights he had.
