Veteran Indian batsman and Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir has pledged to bear the educational expenses of the children of the 25 CRPF personnel, who were killed in an attack by the Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Sukma on Monday.

The cricketer's media manager confirmed that the Gautam Gambhir Foundation will take care of the entire educational expenses of the children of the soldiers killed.

The initial steps in this regard have reportedly already been taken.

Backing the move, Union Minister of Urban Development and Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation M. Venkaiah Naidu earlier took to his Twitter account and complimented the Kolkata Knight Riders skipper for setting an example.

"Compliments to @GautamGambhir for setting an example, pledging to bear educational expenses for kids of #SukmaMartyrs. Inspirational!," he tweeted.

As many as 25 CRPF personnel were killed and six others were injured in the encounter with the Maoists in Sukma.

The attack took place on personnel of the CRPF's 74th Battalion as they were assisting the local population in road building activity in the district.

The Centre has assured action against the perpetrators of the 'cold-blooded murder' in Sukma

I'm not a fan of him for all the negativity towards Pakistan but it is understandable. Some of us are just too patriotic. Great thing to do this.

HOWEVERI have one question. Why does the Govt. or army not do this instead? In Pakistan there are various departments that look after the needs of the family's of martyrs. Especially for army personnel or any security depts.

Respect for Gautam.Shows that he's not all words like many self proclaimed patriots in India.

Usually the wife or sister of the Martyr gets a Govt job. They also get some amount from both Central Govt and the respective State Govts.

I see. They should get more. The wife or a relative getting a Govt. job isn't enough. If you die during service, even if its a natural death, a relative gets a Govt. job in Pakistan but they are also given insurance money, a portion from the budget of the specific department that the person worked in, Educational expenses and the Govt. itself (other than the insurance) gives them money depending on the post. Don't know if these laws are implemented but they exist.

I am not sure what exactly is given in India. I only typed what I know and from what I see on TV.

Someone like Joshila might have better knowledge of this.

So why did he donate?

He should go on the frontline imo.

At least he can't blame Pakistan this time for these soldiers deaths.

The people martyred were not from the army, but from the CRPF. They don't get the Army level compensation etc when compared to the army folks. Besides, when a family looses a bread winner, more assistance than what Government would offer is always welcome. Glad he did it.

Well done Gautam! A true hero. Instead of these pointless politicians filling their pockets, again it's an athlete making India proud

Good on him, apparently he has a genuine fan following among all communities, probably coz him being the captain of KKR.

Good for him that he stopped mouthing off and got to work. Well done

:salute
