George Galloway wins Bradford West byelection

It's all getting a bit silly now.

The election should be about local jobs, infrastructure, services, law and order etc. Not Israel and Palestine.

Galloway's opponent is a political lightweight who was her party's 3rd choice as candidate - Galloway can defeat her easily without having to respond to low blows.

Imran Hussain is a chav, would have cringed to have heard him in the Commons.

'You know bro...we gonna tax da bankers init'.

Markhor look who is heading to parliament. He obviously didn't have the balls to contest the Bradford West seat again so took the easy option. It's a real shame too as we'll have an idiot replacing a decent man like David Ward.

I sympathise with Naz Shah's tragic backstory but Labour have made a complete mess of the selection process.

Galloway appealing to the young, angry Muslim vote because that's what George Galloway does. Nothing about jobs or education for the people of Bradford.

Oh nevermind, just read the bit on page 18. I was looking at page 25 first.

Galloway got a real beating last night. Labour got 50% of the vote, GG only 21%. Nice to see George being magnanimous in defeat. :)

George Galloway blames 'racists and Zionists' for defeat to Naz Shah in Bradford West

George Galloway delivered a typically eccentric speech after he suffered a stunning defeat at the hands of Labour’s Naz Shah.

The Respect party MP, who lost his Bradford West seat with 8,557 votes to Shah’s 19,977 said he feared the “racists and Zionists” would be celebrating long into the night upon hearing the news.

“I don’t begrudge the Labour members here their moment of celebration of course,” he said.

“But there will be others who are already celebrating: the venal, the vile, the racists and the Zionists will all be celebrating. The hyena can bounce on the lion’s grave but it can never be a lion and in any case, I’m not in my grave. As a matter of fact I’m going off now to plan the next campaign.”

A week is a long time in politics:

What's wrong with Naz Shah?

A Pakistan origin MP is [nearly] always welcome.

George got hammered this year, he should accept defeat graciously like everyone else has been doing.

:))). He has great sense of humor.

what has this guy actually done for Bradford beyond his activism beyond the UK

Why did Salma not run this time around

She retired a while back, health reasons and then there were issues between her and George when she was a part of the respect party. I think she's also just fed up with politics and don't blame her going by the 2015 election result, still remains an activist and her work in Birmingham as a Psychotherapist has been amazing. I've never seen someone in our city that goes out of their way to help people and this extends beyond Birmingham. You'll find people that will curse those in the inner city and blame them for their unfortunate circumstances, she'll be their to offer you a hand when you're down and out; give you some support and advice that changes your life for the better. She's an angel from the heavens, words can't describe her contribution to humanity.

Upmost respect for her
She fought against the odds to go uni and has been fighting against the odds ever since

Would have been easy for her to to take a labour safe seat and become an mp but she still does contribute a lot to society as you say

Just like Saj javid and that afzal guy. Maybe you should judge them on who they are and not an ethnic background that they reject/play up to when convenient

She's a good lady who means well but she's totally exposed in politics. Has very little real knowledge of broad issues that's required in politics these days. Her focus is very narrow on strictly pak/afghan war issues and of course george Galloway stole the respect party to make it his own personal vehicle.

Why did Salma not run this time around

Probably because she didn't have a suitable political party to join - she left Respect after Galloway's controversial comments on what is and what isn't rape. She did really well in the 2010 election - this time round Respect were pretty pathetic in that constituency.

I disagree she's a highly educated woman with a clarity and vision which most politicians lack tbh, the help and support she gives people is not limited to pak/afghan. Politics is too dirty and below her, she's actually making a difference without being involved in that filthy world.

Fed up with politics and health reasons being the main issues

Galloway is now claiming that he will start legal proceedings to try and get the Bradford West result thrown out.

Why can't he accept that the people of Bradford don't want him any more?

Some serious sore loser behaviour and I have personally lost respect for him.

You should lose respect. I signed up to respect and went to their annual conference. There was around 20 people discussing random stuff and Galloway just used it as a vehicle for self promotion. I could see why people turn away from the left.

LONDON: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) claimed victories as George Galloway lost in Bradford West and former Punjab Governor’s son Anas Sarwar lost in Glasgow central.

The most unpredictable election in several decades saw David Cameron’s Conservative party emerge as the clear winner with 330 seats, four more than the 326 required for an overall majority, while Labour collapsed to 232; Scottish National Party took 56 seats - and the number of British Pakistani MPs reached 10 for the first time.

The MQM said the “politics of division, racism and hatred” has been defeated when George Galloway, one of the MQM’s most persistent critics, lost in Bradford West to Naz Shah, British Pakistani campaigner, by 8,557 votes to 19,977 and PTI leader Chaudhary Sarwar’s son Anas lost to Scottish Nationalist Party (SNP) surge.

MQM’s Mustafa Azizabadi was the first one to congratulate Naz Shah when the news broke that she had manage to defeat George Galloway by a huge margin. “Naz Shah deserves congratulations for defeating Galloway. He has promoted division and hatred. He never did anything practical but always made promises and lied.

Its great that he is no more an MP and he wouldn’t be able to utilise public money for his vile agenda. We had asked our supporters in Bradford West to support Naz Shah and they did a good job.”

Shows what a difference she made to the respect party before she was thrown out by George

You are clearly a Zionist James. :)

Galloway is moaning about postal voting fraud amongst other things yet a week or so ago he spoke at a pro Lutfur Rahman rally calling for the former Mayor of Tower Hamlets to be reinstated - this despite the solid evidence that Rahman was elected, in part, due to postal voting fraud.

Wonder what will happen to parties like Green, SNP, SWP if he wins.

Galloway back to playing the Israel card when it comes to a domestic election.

Why would he get involved in an Israel-Palestine sludgefest over a local England election?

Galloway moaning about Zionists again.

Must still be hurting at the phainta he got in Bradford by Labour. After his smear campaign against their candidate failed and all his pro Palestinians rhetoric was seen through as just that rhetoric that has no real effect on local politics.

Things are not looking good for poor George when it comes to the Mayoral election - in the opinion polls he is even trailing the right wing loon Paul Golding (of Britain First).

A last hurrah and the ignominious end of George 'Zero' Galloway

Zac Goldsmith’s attacks on Sadiq Khan have attracted the most media coverage of the London mayoral campaign so far. Khan has batted away accusations of associating with religious extremists thrown at him by his Conservative rival with dignity. The latest YouGov poll puts the Labour candidate on 48 per cent of first preference votes – 16 points ahead of his Tory counterpart and 20 points ahead after second preferences.

But Goldsmith is far from the only one slinging mud at Khan. George Galloway, the veteran left-winger who lost his Bradford West seat in the general election, has been trying to tap into socialism’s Indian summer, which delivered Jeremy Corbyn to the Labour leadership.

In many ways, he is a more impressive figure than Corbyn, even if he does not carry the all-important Labour label. He is better known, a better public speaker and the two share many of the same beliefs and the same reverence for Tony Benn. With the Liberal Democrats no longer a force in the capital, the Labour hard left more successful than ever and UKIP an irrelevance, Galloway could have expected a reasonable showing in this election; perhaps third place and a seat in the London Assembly.

He has brought his usual energy, fiery rhetoric and fury to the campaign trail but no one’s listening: he is currently polling at 0 per cent. Behind even Britain First leader Paul Golding, formerly of the British National Party.

According to Galloway, Khan is a New Labour stooge, too close to property developers and big business who has more in common with Goldsmith than Corbyn. Galloway has been endlessly retweeting people with “I voted for Corbyn” Twitter avatars assuring him that he is “real Labour” and has their vote, memes portraying Khan as Tony Blair in disguise, late pleas for a driver for his open top bus and trips on his open top bus to every rally and demonstration in London in a vain effort to drum up support for his bid for City Hall.

But, barring a handful of people who believe that Labour has always been too right wing, the message has fallen flat.

Galloway spent the best part of 30 years in the House of Commons, first as a Labour MP in Glasgow, then back in parliament in Bethnal Green and Bow and Bradford as a Respect MP, following his expulsion during the Iraq war. Those two victories were among the unlikeliest in parliamentary history. Divisive as he is – perhaps he is wilfully so – he is a remarkably successful politician, with one of the most recognisable faces and voices in Britain.

It has been difficult to watch. Galloway’s career as an elected representative began when he unseated Roy Jenkins in Glasgow Hillhead, a seat which Labour had never previously held. If this is his last hurrah and the polls are to be believed, his career will be ending behind a former BNP councillor in a left-wing city

Looks like he could fight for Bradford West or Tooting by-elections soon.

After being humiliated in the London mayoral election Galloway has decided not to run in Tooting, not because he has no chance of winning but because of the greater good. What a man.

Why has his support evaporated so much among his voters?

Why has his support evaporated so much among his voters?

He will only succeed in a majority Muslim area where he can exploit anti-Israel feeling. That won't work in London as a whole. Tooting is about 30% ethnic minority, but that includes a lot of Indians, Tamils and Poles.

Sadiq Khan had already taken Labour backwards in Tooting from 10k majority to just 2k

Serious worry that Galloway would have split Labour vote going up against a relative unknown in Dr Rosena Allin-Khan. I suspect Galloway has been given the nod that Labour will bring him back into the fold if he plays ball here.

He’s running for Parliament again.

Against Labour? That will split the left vote and let the Tories back in.

He’ll be standing on a predominantly pro-Brexit platform rather than a classically Left one. He may even be standing for The Brexit Party. TBC.

Yesterday's man. Has made so many flip flops on Brexit its hard to keep up - wasn't until right before the referendum (when his name value was dwindling) that he was an ardent Remainer.

Well that lasted long.

I like George. He should officially retire from politics.

Whenever he is thinking of standing for a seat, within hours the knives come out across the nation due to the tons of baggage that he has accumulated over the years.

George then goes into meltdown on his Twitter feed trying to defend and justify himself - as this progresses you can tell that he is feeling the pressure and just not enjoying it. Eventually he backs out.

He has a beautiful young family and enough of a steady income to not worry about money. When all is said and done he is still an entertaining broadcaster, so he is better off sticking with that now.
