The ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) 2025 has been confirmed to run from 8 to 18 July 2025. All 11 matches of the tournament will take place at the iconic Guyana National Stadium, Providence, as five elite T20 teams from around the world compete for the coveted GSL trophy.

The 2025 edition marks the second instalment of this exciting tournament. The inaugural event in 2024 was won by the Rangpur Riders of the Bangladesh Premier League, who defeated Cricket Victoria in the final.

GSL’s first season will be remembered for thrilling cricket as well as confirming Guyana as a premier destination for world class sporting events. Sir Clive Lloyd, GSL Chairman, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming tournament:

“The first GSL was a resounding success, with all five participating teams praising the exceptional facilities and warm hospitality they experienced in Guyana. We are excited to build on this momentum in 2025 and are delighted to confirm the tournament dates. The GSL continues to position Guyana as a key destination for international cricket and sports tourism.”

When did they get Farhan?

Nawaz is also there.. Good to see farhan if he is going to get a gmae or 2 here, it will be a good thing for him.

Sahibzada Farhan is a solid player of spin & in conditions of dry, dusty & slow pitches, you need players that are good at playing spin.

Nawaz & Nabi have ideally been brought in for their spin bowling ability rather then batting maybe more so for Nawaz.

The second ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) got underway at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence between Dubai Capitals and Central Stags of New Zealand with Dubai running out winners by a comfortable margin of 22 runs after posting 165/7

Star Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan put in a Player of the Match performance with bat and ball, his half century and four wickets at a frugal economy of just 3.25 per over snuffed out the Stags’ hopes of a victorious chase, the latter eventually mustering 143/8 in response as Dubai claimed the win and made a strong start in this year’s GSL.

Stags captain Tom Bruce called the coin toss correctly and elected to bowl first only for Dubai Capitals to make a competitive total off their 20 overs. The Dubai outfit got off to a decent start with opener Sediqullah Atal hitting 41 off 25 balls at the top of the order before Shakib’s powerfully struck half century consisting of seven fours and one six – the first of the competition - provided a flourish to Dubai’s batting effort. Shakib was unbeaten at the end with 58 off 37 balls, he then made an equally big impact with the ball in hand.

Angus Schaw was the pick of the bowlers for the Stags, his right arm off breaks scalping three wickets, including Dubai’s opener Niroshan Dickwella as well as middle order batters Kadeem Alleyne and Jordan Johnson – the latter niftily stumped by Dane Cleaver behind the sticks.

Dubai made steady progress in their reply, reaching 67-3 off 10 overs but left themselves too much heavy lifting to do in the second half of their innings with the run rate climbing steadily as a result of tight bowling from Dubai in the middle overs.

Bruce played a battling knock for 34 off 39 balls but when he fell at the end of the 19th over to the medium pace of Gulbadin Naib it left the Stags requiring 29 off six balls and the jig was almost up.

25-year -ld fast bowler Khuzaima Tanveer was tasked with bowling the final over of the match and found himself on a hat-trick after removing Doug Bracewell and Angus Schaw with consecutive deliveries. Ajaz Patel hit the hat-trick delivery for four to spoil the party but a dot ball off the last saw Dubai complete the win and head to the t
op of the table.

Defending champions Rangpur Riders were involved in a thriller in their first match of the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League at Guyana National Stadium, Providence as they narrowly defeated home side Guyana Amazon Warriors by 8 runs in the tournament’s second match of the day.

Riders captain Nurul Hasan won the toss and elected to bat first, his side putting on a solid batting display to make 162/5 off their 20 overs, Kyle Mayers top scoring with 44 and remaining not out at the end of the innings.

The Warriors star studded spin attack consisting of Imran Tahir, Gudakesh Motie and Moeen Ali were well negotiated by the Riders on a decent batting wicket, Motie and Tahir picking up a brace of wickets each with seamer Shamar Springer pocketing the only other wicket to fall.

The Warriors boast a strong batting card and they were always in the chase, Johnson Charles setting a solid foundation at the top of the order with 40 off 28 balls and Moeen striking some sumptuous boundaries to make 27 off 18.

With six players getting to double figures and making starts without playing a match defining performance, the Warriors were eventually bowled out in 19.1 overs to finish on 154.

Thirty-two year old Bangladeshi medium pacer Khaled Ahmed scooped the Player of the Match award by picking up 4/36 in his four overs of accurate pace, the 19th over proving the decisive one as Guyana needed 20 runs off the final 12 deliveries, Ahmed was sent for a soaring six by Dwaine Pretorius but then immediately struck back with two wickets in as many balls to get rid Pretorius and Shamar Springer bowled and lbw respectively.

It was a decisive contribution from the seamer and took his side to the brink of victory. With the Warriors needing 9 from the final over Azmatulla Omarzai pulled off the coup de grace by bowling Davie Wiese to secure the win and get Rangpur Riders defence of the (GSL) title off to a strong start.

In the third game of the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League at Guyana National Stadium, Providence, Hobart Hurricanes XI’s defeated Dubai Capitals by 7 wickets with 18 balls remaining

Hurricanes captain Ben McDermott won the toss and inserted the Dubai outfit even though the Capitals had seen success defending a target in the first match of this year’s (GSL).

A score of 141-8 felt below par and so it proved, the Hurricanes knocking off the runs in some comfort to get their campaign off to a winning start.

Things started well for the capitals, Sediqullah Atal blitzed 25 from 9 balls, clearing the boundaries for two sixes before Mohammad Nabi cleaned him up, Fabian Allen clinging on to a steepling catch as the batter sought another maximum but mistimed the stroke.

Allen then dismissed Niroshan Dickwella for 12 with his slow left arm tweakers and Nabi popped up again to pocket dangerman Shakib Al Hasan for just 7 to leave the Capitals stuttering on 55-4 after seven overs.

Shakib had just passed 7,500 runs in T20s with a six off Nabi but then fell the very next ball caught behind by McDermott. Success and failure in cricket are happy bedfellows.

A rain shower delayed proceedings, but it was much the same for the Capitals once the players re-took the field. They eventually made it up to a competitive total of 141-8 thanks to some lower order runs from Kadeem Alleyne (14), Jesse Bootan (18) and Dominic Drakes (11). Both Nabi and Allen finishing on identical figures of 3/21 before Hobart Hurricanes XI made short work of the chase.

A 78 run partnership between Hobart Hurricanes XI’s captain and opening batter Ben McDermott and number 3 Macalister Wright broke the back of the Capital’s total. Zinc cheeked leg-spinner Qais Ahmed spun a wonderful ball through McDermott’s defences to deprive him of a half century, a fizzing delivery pitching on middle and knocking back the off stump to bowl him for a well-made 48 off 24 balls that included five fours and three muscular sixes.

Southpaw Australian batter Jake Doran joined Wright in the middle as they cruised towards the finish line, Wright made it to his 50 off 47 balls but couldn’t see his side over the line with just a handful of runs needed.

The Hurricanes were never in danger though and chalked up the win just moments later in brilliant Providence sunshine. McDermott was named Player of the Match.

RAGING WARRIORS KEEP STAGS IN THE CELLAR

After both suffering defeats in their first game of the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League, Guyana Amazon Warriors faced off with Central Stags at Guyana National Stadium, Providence, with the home side chalking up their first win by an emphatic 66 runs.

Stags captain Tom Bruce won the toss and inserted the home side but despite early success it wasn’t long before he may have been ruing his decision. Matthew Forde provided the early breakthrough when he had opener Johnson Charles neatly caught behind after which Blair Tickner cleaned up Moeen Ali to have the home side in early trouble. Then came the Warriors fight back with the bat.

Eventual Player of the Match Rahmanullah Gurbaz anchored the innings from the top of the order for the Warriors with an impressive 58 from 47 balls which included 3 fours and 2 sixes. A partnership of 84 runs between Gurbaz and Jewel Andrew proved the decisive one of the match.

Andrew, the 18 year old West Indian batter – of whom none other than Shai Hope recently said “The world will be amazed by his talent” – struck a classy 45 off just 29 balls before a being run out by Forde.

A total of 158/6 for the Warriors felt like a par total but with only three Stags players reaching double figures in a stuttering innings that saw wickets fall regularly, it turned out to be more than enough to get the home side their first victory of the tournament.

Veteran South African spinner Imran Tahir was the pick of the Warriors bowlers with 4/23 but it was a team performance with ball in hand as Dwaine Pretorious impressed with 3/18 and David Wiese chipped in with 2/13 to rattle through the Stags batting card and consign them to 92 all out and a hefty defeat that sent them to the root of the table and the Warriors to the top as the (GSL) gets into full swing.

Rangpur are looking good for final again. 2 wins in 2 games.

Hobart Hurricanes XI and Rangpur Riders had both started their ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League campaigns with a win but only one side could carry on their unbeaten streak after they met at Guyana National Stadium, Providence, with Rangpur Riders stealing a thriller off the last ball of the game to take the spoils and head to the top of the (GSL) table after five completed games.

Hurricanes captain Ben McDermott won the toss and inserted the Riders who got themselves to a competitive total of 151/6 largely thanks to 43 off 31 balls from Ibrahim Zadran at the top of the order and the swashbuckling blade of Kyle Mayers who hit 8 fours and two sixes to score 67 off 42 balls and to remain unbeaten and go past the milestone of 4000 T20 runs in the process.

The Hurricanes were thankful for the tricksy leg-spin of Usama Mir, his three wickets for just 15 runs kept the Riders total to a manageable one. The Riders would also have been pleased with what has been around a par score for the tournament so far and were buoyed even more when Mayers removed Hurricane’s opener Bhankuka Rajapaska caught behind by Nurul Hasan with the score on just 4 runs.

A solid partnership of 49 runs then followed in quick time between McDermott and Macalister Wright, the same pair who impressed with the bat in the Hurricanes first match of the tournament. Any thoughts the Hurricanes might have had of coasting the total were soon dashed, however, when 53/2 soon became 82/5 with the top order all back in the hutch.

With 55 required off the last six overs, Hurricanes had Mohammed Nabi and Odean Smith both set in double figures. Nabi then opened the shoulders in the 15th over, plundering Tabraiz Shamsi for a six and then a four, thirteen runs off the over left the game in the balance, 42 needed from 30 balls.

Azmatullah Omarzai than rattled through a frugal over for the cost of just six runs to keep Riders in with chance, with 36 needed from 24 balls, Hurricanes were only ever a few lusty blows away.

The match swung one way then the other, Odean Smith hit Khaled Ahmed for four only for the Bangladeshi medium pacer to hit back right away and dismiss Smith for 20 off 13 balls. Azmatullah Omarzai did the business again, the 18th over costing just four runs.

Needing 22 off 12 deliveries, Nabi swiped the first ball of the 19th over from Khaled Ahmed for six but the twists still came as Ahmed dismissed Fabian Allen and Raf Macmillan in consecutive balls to leave Hurricanes needing 12 off the final over.

Azmatullah Omarzai was given the last over, Nabi swiped him for 6 and looked to have the game won before he fell for 44 to leave 3 runs needed off 1 ball. Billy Stanlake was run out off the final ball to give Rangpur Riders the victory by just one run as a breathless encounter came to a close in Guyana.

Warriors Roar to the Top: Guyana Crush Capitals in GSL Showdown

Backed by a roaring Providence crowd under the Sunday night lights, the Guyana Amazon Warriors lit up the National Stadium with a dominant performance to crush the Dubai Capitals by 57 runs and storm to the top of the points table in the 2025 ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL).

In Match 6 of the high-stakes five-team showdown, the Warriors bravely defended a modest 138 for 7 — turning the heat on with a fiery bowling display that folded the Capitals for 81 inside 16 overs.

Despite early blows — losing power-hitters Rahmanullah Gurbaz (0), Shimron Hetmyer (14), and Johnson Charles (11) inside the powerplay — the Warriors found their backbone in Moeen Ali. The classy Englishman staged a counterattack with two gritty partnerships: a steady 43-run stand with rising teenage star Jewel Andrew and a quickfire 47 with the ever-dangerous Sherfane Rutherford.

Capitals’ left-arm seamer Kaleem Sana did his best to halt the momentum, but Romario Shepherd — playing his first game of the season — ensured the Warriors ended on a competitive note.

The real carnage, though, came when the Warriors had the ball.

Captain Imran Tahir orchestrated a bowling masterclass — rotating seven bowlers to perfection. Dwaine Pretorius set the tone, sending back the out-of-form Rohan Mustafa, before Shepherd delivered a knockout punch with a double-wicket over. From there, it was the Tahir show — the veteran leggie spun a web around the Capitals' middle and lower order, finishing with an incredible 4/12 — the best figures of the tournament so far. Moeen Ali and Gudakesh Motie joined the party as the Capitals collapsed spectacularly.

With this commanding victory, the undefeated Warriors now sit pretty at the top of the table with two wins from two — while the Capitals are left clinging to a shot at the final ahead of their final clash against the defending champions Rangpur Riders.

Next up, the Warriors face the Hobart Hurricanes XI on Wednesday in what promises to be another sizzling encounter.

After defeats in their first two matches in their ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) Central Stags chalked up a 16 run win in the final over to secure bragging rights over Trans-Tasman rivals Hobart Hurricanes XI in game 7 of the competition.

The Stags won the toss and batted first, making a commanding total of 167/4 - the highest total struck so far at Guyana National Stadium, Providence in this year’s tournament - largely thanks to half centuries from skipper Tom Bruce and Player of the Match Curtis Heaphy who remained unbeaten on 50 off 38 balls.

A tight team bowling and fielding effort from the Stags saw the Hurricanes lose regular wickets, they looked well out of the match at 62/5 in the 13th over before some boundary clearing resistance from the blade of Mohammed Nabi and Fabian Allen saw the Stags run them close in the latter stages.

After looking out of the contest completely, Mohammed Nabi hauled his side back into something like contention. The all-rounder slapped a muscular six over the offside boundary followed by two consecutive fours on either side of the wicket off the pace bowling of Blair Tickner in the 14th over to see the Hurricanes up to 80/5, needing 88 runs from the final five overs.

Odean Smith fell in the following over, stumped off the bowling of Jayden Lennox in an attempt to haul the increasingly improbable target closer. Allen arrived at the crease to join Nabi who was not going down without a fight. Three huge sixes in a row off Angus Schaw kept the game alive, leaving 64 needed off 24 balls and allowing the Hurricanes to believe an improbable victory could possibly be pulled off.

Tickner was picked off once again in the 18th over, 16 runs plundered off it saw the equation come down to 40 runs from the last 12 balls.

The 19th over saw Allen displaying his own power hitting and ability to clear the boundary ropes and find the stands, Matthew Forde was smoked for 3 sixes in the penultimate over costing 21 runs to take the match into the final over with 19 runs needed for a remarkable Hurricanes run chase.

Tickner held his nerve at the last, a smart return catch off the first ball of the final over to see the back of Nabi for 43 off 25 balls. Usama Mir was run out a couple of balls later and the game finally fell out of reach.

The defeat sees the Hurricanes drop points for the second match in a row and they have top of the table and home favourites Guyana Amazon Warriors lying in wait in their next fixture as the GSL heads towards its exciting final stages.

Defending champions Rangpur Riders survived a late scare from Dubai Capitals in the 8th match of the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) on Wednesday morning at Providence.

The Riders eventually held on to chalk up their third win out of three with an 8-run win that sees them return to the top of the table and look in a strong position to defend their title.

After winning two close matches in their first brace of fixtures by 1 and 8 runs respectively, the riders were pushed close once more only to come out on top again.

Conversely Dubai Capitals came into the match having lost their last two matches by sizeable margins having defeated Central Stags on their first fixture, the only side below them in the tournament table.

Riders captain Nurul Hasan won the toss and chose to bat first, lower order runs from himself and eventual Player of the Match Iftikhar Ahmed helped get the Riders to a competitive total of 158/5 off their 20 overs with the captain opening his shoulders to hit consecutive sixes off Gulbadin Naib off the final two balls of the innings to head into the turnaround unbeaten on 34 off 18 balls and Iftikhar Ahmed finishing not out on 41 off 32.

The Capitals used a total of seven bowlers as they looked to keep their attack varied and the wickets were shared around by five different members of their bowling attack. Shakib Al Hasan the pick of the bowlers with one wicket for the frugal cost of 16 runs off his full set of four overs.

The Capitals reached 71/3 at the 10-over mark to leave themselves needing 88 from the final 60 balls, a recovery of sorts after they were reduced to 7-2 with Kadeem Alleyne castled by Kyle Mayers and Gulbadin chopping a ball from Iftikhar Ahmed onto the stumps.

The wheels came off the Capitals innings soon after, Sanjay Krishnamurthi was out to Rakibul Hasan in the 12th over and then they suffered a double wicket blow as Bangladeshi off spinner had dangerman Shakib Al Hasan stumped and pinned set batter Sediqullah Ata LBW to leave the Dubai side reeling on 85/6.

Some lusty lower order hitting from Dominic Drakes and Qais Ahmed saw the Capitals come back into it but wickets were falling as regularly as the boundaries. Ahmed and Drakes fell in quick succession with the target suddenly down to single figures.

The Capitals endured their third defeat at Guyana National Stadium, Providence which saw a certain end to their hopes of making the tournament final on Saturday. For Rangpur Riders, the GSL title defence is very much still in play.
