Karachi, Jan 28 Pakistan's under-fire one-day captain Azhar Ali was taunted at the airport when he reached Lahore with other team members from the forgettable tour of Australia.

Television channels showed footage of Azhar being hooted and taunted with cries of 'you leave the captaincy' when he came out of the Lahore international airport terminal building.

However, the senior batsman, who is likely to be sacked as the national ODI captain, didn't retaliate although footage showed him turning towards the person who taunted him to leave the captaincy.

But better sense prevailed and Azhar walked out of the building towards his waiting car.

Pakistan's poor performances in New Zealand and Australia have led to calls for changes in the teams and appointment of new captain.

Pakistan lost both Tests in New Zealand, one of which was under Azhar's captainship, before being steamrolled in the Test and ODI series in Australia.

Pakistan won just one ODI and that too under the captaincy of Muhammad Hafeez, as Azhar was unfit for the match.

Not surprisingly, the Pakistani players who reached Lahore avoided talking to the waiting media and Azhar said they had been told by the Pakistan Cricket Board not to speak to the media for the time being.

They picked the wrong guy. It should have been Shahyrar Khan,Misbah or Najam Sethi. Azhar can only do what he is asked to do. He was forced into the ODI side. People should remember that.

Yeah right!!! He did not resign before. Why people think he or Misbah will resign or retire. Unless SK shows some guts

Nobody deserves to be disrespected specially the guy who is your premier batsman in Tests. Azhar was never suited to the ODI format, it is not his fault though, it's a PCB blunder.

Should strongly be condemned this kinda behaviour. If anything his future of captaincy it depends on the board. Yes he was a poor captain but he didn't race for captaincy like others did before. He was the first pak batsman to score a double ton in AUS I think. show some respect if u can't praise him. What will he feel as an individual must be very dejected at the moment. Very painful to watch such things happening.

Pakistan fans can be really unforgiving sometimes. More than Indian fans and that's saying something.

I think I remember once someone making a garland out of chappals and trying to go near a Pak cricket player in an airport in Pakistan after a heavy defeat for the team.

People must really have a lot of time on their hands if they specially go to the airport to taunt the team.

Its the media that riles them up.

After the 2011 world cup loss, some sections of the Pak media were actually positive saying that no one expected the Pakistan team to make the semis, and that they did very well.

So even though we lost against India, our arch rival, that team was still greeted positively when they arrived at home.

After this loss the media is after Azhar's head. No surprise at this reaction from the fans.

That is highly condemnable behaviour. The guy who averaged 82 in the Test series and scored a double in the MCG test. Just hope it doesn't show on his test performances because it certainly showed in the ODI series. You could see he wasn't there completely with the bat.

PCB disallowed Captain to talk media. It's against the honor and pride of captain and definitely hurt ego.
Just imagine PCB would have asked Imran or Wasim so....they would never obey or resigned

This is not a competition. Anyone who does these things, one or a million, needs to be ashamed.

None should have done this. There are many ways to do*this. All fans should*show there*opinion*peacefully in front of*board office or other places.

As Bangladeshi fan I am still proud that no Bangladeshi fans ever did this( show anger on any particular player after failure). Thanks to my fellow country fans. Hope they never do this kind of stuff rather they should do peaceful protest.

We have awful fans. This guy is your best Test batsman. Him playing ODIs is the PCBs fault, not his.

I was talking about anger on own player's poor performance. We never did that which many times people of india and pakistan did.
Yeah some street boys did that with wi team which was shameful. Hope it won't happen again.

I quoted that because that attack was actually intended against the Bangladeshi team. The West Indian team got attacked because of the confusion in the buses.

Because they have been poor since time immemorial. Why beat the dead. :ashwin

Poor form, surely people have better things to do with their free time.

Oh brother, you have no idea the number of people that are present at the airport at a given time.. Speically Karachi where this happened...

People go there with Wagons full of people... just to 'enjoy themselves'

PCB made a mistake in 2015 but it has been Azhar's fault ever since.

He should have realized by the time we lost the ODI series to England that he is not cut for ODI's. He should have resigned when Sheharyar gave him the chance...

Nothing wrong with protesting against the national team - fans have every right to do so as they pay money for it and spend time to watch the time.

Criticizing Azhar's captaincy and asking him to resign is perfectly valid criticism. I am actually happy for these fans as they decided to get direct and make their point across.

Perfectly acceptable as long as they don't get personal or violent which it doesn't seem like they did.

He was asked to resign but he chose not.

It is as much Azhar's fault as it is on the PCB.

why would he resign when Misbah despite averaging in the single digits on two tours with whitewashes in results wants to continue? and PCB and selectors say he can do what he wants. There should be no double standards if Misbah can continue then Azhar should follow.

Incredibly disrespectful.

He's PAK's best test batsman for crying out loud.

Believe me,fact was not*like the media states. I was there when it happened. We still were sorry for what happened.

His Odi performances says otherwise.

No one is disputing that.

However, you don't forget everything a player's done for your nation because he failed in one format.

That might be the worst example of "what have you done for me lately?" ever seen.

A nothing story to be honest, one person telling him to leave the captaincy isn't being abusive. People are tired of these selfish players but as I said even then its one person shouting and telling him to leave the captaincy.

Its a non story, just see the video its the Jaag Tv's reporter or cameraman himself who shouted at Azhar to leave captaincy...

Shows how poor our media is, and is actually somewhat responsible for portraying Pakistan's bad image everywhere

If PCB is unable to do something, fans have no choice but shout at least. No fans wants there team complete surrender to their opposition. Both Azhar and Misbah should resign if they have any dignity

Absolutely, Misbah deserved this more than anyone, not Azhar.

Its stupidity , pure and simple to shout at Azhar. Its not upto him to stay as captain or leave, its up to PCB. Azhar, while a failure in ODIs, was the most successful player on the tour overall considering his test performance.

It is Misbah who is showing worst selfishness and not leaving the captaincy and too bad BCP leaving this upto him to decid even after the disastrous twin tour.

Lol it's upto PCB that's ridiculous.. Come On Some Body Need Some Courage.. It Is Azhar Ali that selfishness, he Know's his batting absolutely mediocre in ODI's .. can't decide, Can't Speak with team..

Azhar Amir Fiasco.. the fixing issue.. like he told PCB he don't want to have amir first...

Azhar Ali is Selfish player in ODI's for sure..

Poor behaviour from the fans involved. We weren't going to beat Australia regardless of who was captain. I agree Azhar should be sacked as captain and dropped as a batsmen from Odis but he doesn't deserve this. He is trying his best and it's not like he is causing conflict in the dressing room. He just doesn't have the shot range and ability in LO cricket.

I believe Pakistani Fans Should Be More Vocals, At least these Fans are not throwing eggs or rotten tomatoes... People used to throw lot of thing's even if we just lose a single match...

Time has changed now.. so our team... which is ranked almost bottom....

lol didn't they throw stones to bangla players bus in WC11? poor Windies players are in receiving end though!

Didn't the Bangladesh fans also burn down a stadium during the world cup when their team was losing ?

They are mutually exclusive events. Azhar is not good enough to be in the ODI squad - let alone captaincy.
He should have resigned when he had the chance rather than face the humiliating exit he is having to deal with now.

Not sure how bad this was but I've always been surprised at just how poor the security is at airports in Pakistan when the team arrives back home.

The security usually consists of a couple of tobacco chewing police officers who are more interested in taking a selfie with the players.
