Grant Bradburn has decided to step down from the Head of High Performance Coaching role to pursue further coaching opportunities.

During his three years in Pakistan, the former New Zealand Test spinner served Pakistan cricket as national side’s fielding coach from September 2018 to June 2020, before taking on the development of coaching responsibilities. He remained a popular figure within the cricket fraternity and is regarded highly by players, coaches and colleagues.

Grant Bradburn: “It has been an honour and privilege to serve Pakistan, providing challenge and support, to drive the players, coaches and teams forward. I will leave PCB grateful for the wonderful opportunities and the experiences I have gained.

“As a foreigner, I felt welcomed and valued by my present and former PCB colleagues, players, officials and the Pakistan public. I have always felt safe here, loved exploring this wonderful country and made many lifetime friends.

“My wife Maree and three children have also sacrificed a lot in allowing me to serve Pakistan cricket. Covid-19 regulations made it challenging for them to visit Pakistan and feel the warmth, love and friendship this country offers. It is now time for me to prioritise family and move forward to the next coaching challenge.”

Director High Performance, Nadeem Khan: “Grant served Pakistan cricket with passion and dedication. He was always full of energy and ideas, a number of which he implemented following the restructuring of the National High Performance Centre. I thank Grant for his contributions to Pakistan cricket and wish him well in his future endeavours.”

soon we will have Hall of Famers from PCB :
Intikhab Alam, Misbah, Aquib Javed, Moin Khan, Saleem Jafer, Sallu, Shafiq Papa, Inzi, Mushy, Saqi, Waqar Younis, Haroon Rashid, Shakil Sheikh, Javed Miandad, Amir Sohail, Talat Ali, etc

Why not go to next level in nepotism and appoint Moon Khan as head of NHPCA
Both Moon and Nadeem will be tasked to make sure Azam is fit enough too play for Pakistan

RIP Pakistan cricket. IK is destroying Pakistan cricket. Really really disappointed with him.

Looks like under Rambo all posts will be filled with old desi bros.

What has the PM of the country got to do with a cricket coach resigning?

Because Rambo has been appointed by IK and Rambo is behind all these people resigning.

We may see Philander and Hayden may resign in few days time as well and replaced by Younis and aaqib.

Three years is a pretty decent amount of time to spend with Pakistan cricket. Can't expect him to be here for ever, especially when he is away from his family.

Thanks for the work. Hopefully we get someone good in replacement.

What did he achieve? Nothing. We have not seen any tangible results.

The Wasim-Mani duo was only good for creating fancy titles with nothing to show for.

Never understood this move of appointing a chairman 1 and a half months before a major international tournament.

By far one of the most unprofessional moves in the history of PCB

I wonder if you ever think before posting or do you need to get your stats up?

These are results you won't see in his time - especially considering they just merged the domestic and academy setup and reduced the number of domestic teams - those are big changes and results have to be measured on a 3-5 year basis.

But then again, this is Pakistan cricket and its fans expect instant results.

Worrying to see so many leave in such a short period of time.

Aaqib perhaps his replacement?

What were we achieving keeping the previous regime intact? No need to take, or not take, actions just for aesthetics.

Question is : Who will get sacked after our (if) pathetic performance in WT20??
RR does not have many people left to sack after our poor performances..

May be babar from captaincy ; and goodbyes to hafeez - Malik

But this fallout could have been delayed for after the World Cup

What fallout bro? What's the tangible impact of this "fallout"? We were losing games left right and center in the under the previous regime.

Yeah, it max exodus isn't a good luck but there really is no tangible impact of all this. We were already in the dumps, so the only direction to go from there is up

At the moment, I think Pakistan were better off heading to this tournament with Misbah and Waqar as the coaches because the work they have done with this squad for 2 years makes sense that it should be those two. Wasim Khan’s departure is going to hurt in the short run, let alone the long run. Pakistan announced a date to release its shirt (13th) only to delay it by 2 days and they still have not released it. This is just one example of how they are starting to backtrack in professionalism. The changes to the squad after media pressure, and the inconsistency in selecting players who have a tainted past make no sense either. Malik was picked due to media pressure, but then why is Wahab Riaz and Amir not picked if Malik is the ‘need of the hour’?

They could have created this mess after the World Cup, not a month before it.

What was he responsible for? Did he deliver on his deliverables?

I don't mind if this is done in an organized manner but I see a lot of people leaving but ni replacements identified

So, I do agree with you when you say that Misbah and Waqar should have stayed as coaches for the WC, but maybe because of a different reason. My reason is accountability. They both have worked on this squad for 2 years and need to see the efforts of that through till the end. Ramiz Raja, while not in favor of keeping them, had no plans to remove them prior to the WC. However, because Misbah and Waqar saw the writing on the wall post the WC, the decided to leave. Now, in my opinion, this was a very selfish and cowardly move. You do not work a project for 2 years only to hand it over to someone else for submission because the company's CEO has changed. My take is that Misbah and Waqar did not have confidence in this team, or you can say in the work that they had done, and decided to conveniently exit instead of facing the blame of a potentially poor performance. Net, you cannot blame RR for this as it solely Misbah/Waqar's decision.

You say that Pakistan would have been better off with those two still with the team - I HIGHLY doubt that. The stats do not back it up.

Selection has been shambolic - I completely agree. But is that anything new? Was selection not a hot topic prior to RR?

So again, my point is that we were in all kinds of shambles prior to RR and do not need to worry about these cosmetic things like resignations. People who are leaving haven't delivered anything, so what difference their departure is going to make?

England refused to tour while WK was in-charge! need I say more?

There could be a stumbling block to this appointment relating to his work at Cricket Scotland.

There are strong rumours regarding yasir arafat as bowling coach and head coach in mickey's absence. Any truth in that?

Like what? Is he still working at Cricket scottland? He isnt the head coach of Scottland anymore na? What position he holds in Cricket Scottland now? Plzz Dont tell me..he will also be dividing time between Pak and Scottland like Mickey..

Bradburn no longer works for Cricket Scotland so the issue isn't one that relates to him working for PCB and Cricket Scotland in a split role.

The issue could be something else - that PCB is looking into.

This would be a better arrangement than a "virtual" head coach. Mickey Arthur sets a general direction and oversees the selectors, coaches and academy akin to Rob Key's role at ECB.

However you still need a permanent, travelling head coach who works hands-on with the players. Grant Bradburn hasn't yet coached a top international team, but has plenty of coaching experience in New Zealand domestics and as Scotland head coach.

Then you have a properly accredited Pakistani coach like Yasir Arafat who's worked in England.

That's about as good as it'll get as the job simply isn't attractive at the moment given the political turmoil, recent security deterioration, further likely PCB upheavals post-elections and lure of the T20 franchise circuit.

Hmm..seems to be some controversy related to his work at Scottland? Although as far as I have read about him..Cricket Scottland spoke favorably abt him…even when he left…

Well..when PCB has already hired controversial figures like Kamran Akmal…it shouldnt be too sensitive abt Bradburn too

So even the Head Coach needs to report to someone else other than the PCB Head? What pills did Mickey leave behind for others to ingest? I can imagine Misbah's state!

lmao - you’re gonna have a hard time defending your boy Sethi (the greatest chairman in Pakistan cricket history).

Now we have an “offline” part time coach 🤣

Bradburn who achieved “nothing” as head coach.

Shan Masood as captain of 1 of 3 formats.

What's controversial about kamran akmal?

Former Pakistan fielding coach Grant Bradburn has emerged as the favourite to become national side’s head coach under Mickey Arthur’s consultancy, sources told Dawn on Thursday.

The New Zealander served as the Pakistan fielding coach from 2018 to 2020 and has also worked as head coach at the National Cricket Academy.

He is one of the three confirmed names for the potential five-member Pakistan coaching panel including consultant Arthur and fitness coach Grant Luden.

The new team management will be named when all five names are finalised with negotiations already under way.

“Arthur has sent to the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) different choices for his coaching panel members with separate budgets,” an official of the board told Dawn.

“The PCB will make a final decision by choosing the best staff that it can afford according to its budget limitation.”

One of the names that is under consideration for the coaching panel is that of former Pakistan all-rounder Yasir Arafat, who holds a Level IV coaching qualification from the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Whether Yasir — who featured in three Tests, 11 One-day Internationals and 13 T20Is for Pakistan — makes the cut or not is yet to be decided. “Yasir Arafat is one of names being considered but nothing is final as several steps have to be taken to pick up the best coaching panel,” said the PCB official.

All Pakistan players are preparing for the eighth edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League, which kicks off on Feb 13. The tournament ends on March 19, a week before New Zealand tour the country for five ODIs and as many T20s.

The official said the coaching panel will be finalised by April 1.

“There is no hurry to finalise the coaching panel and most probably Grant Bradburn will be the head coach while Arthur will be available as consultant/cricket director,” he said.

“Arthur will also travel with the teams for the ICC and ACC events besides being available for all of Pakistan’s assignements while the English domestic season is off.”

During Arthur’s tenure as Pakistan coach between 2016 and 2019, Pakistan won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017 and became the number one side in the Twenty20 International rankings.

After the Champions Trophy, Pakistan whitewashed Sri Lanka in ODI and T20 series after losing the Test series. The side also won a triangular T20 series also involving Australia and Zimbabwe to maintain their number one ranking.

The 54-year-old, however, fell out of favour after Pakistan narrowly missed out on making the semi-finals of the

2019 World Cup in England. Arthur, who has also coached his native South Africa and Sri Lanka, is currently serving as the head coach of Derbyshire on a three-year contract.

Lets see when PCB will finalise its coaching team.. Just after PSL, theres t20 series against Afghanistan in March, but seems PCB is in no hurry to announce its coaching team.. dont know whether new coaching team will even be finalised / announced by then.. Grant Bradburn’s future as part of coaching team, also seems uncertain as per media reports

I guess they are waiting for the PSL to be done and dusted and then sort out the coaching positions.

But isnt Afganistan t20 series…just after PSL? coaching staff should be finalised before that.. infact ideallyy…other than Mickey Arthur …other coaching staff should also have been finalised by now..so that other coaches / support staff should have also kept a keen eye on PSL…and have an idea of upcoming youngsters of Pak

The coaching rise and fall of former Black Caps allrounder Grant Bradburn

When Gary Stead last applied to be in charge of the Black Caps, one of his major rivals was another player who had a limited test career, followed by notable success as a coach.

Seven years later, Grant Bradburn’s coaching future appears uncertain, as Stead decides on whether to seek a further stint with the national side.

In December, Bradburn was sacked by UK county cricket club Glamorgan, and charged by the independent cricket regulator, after allegations were made against the former New Zealand test allrounder.

Last month, he was given a suspended £500 (NZ$1130) fine, reprimand and caution for making comments with racist and sexist “connotations”.

Bradburn admitted the charge, which consisted of three allegations, to the Cricket Discipline Commission.

The CDC said: "It was alleged that, on a number of occasions (including during the pre-season of 2024 in the changing room at Sophia Gardens) Mr Bradburn asked players of Asian background what their 'real age' is and responded to their answer by saying 'is that your CricInfo age' or 'CricInfo' or similar, implying that Asian players do not tell the truth about their age.

"It was alleged that in a pre-season team meeting Mr Bradburn made comments that, in cricket selection decisions in Pakistan, they would pick their friends and cousins or pick their names out of a hat.”

Bradburn was seen as a strong contender to succeed Mike Hesson in 2018, but after missing out to Stead, was named Pakistan’s fielding coach in 2018 and signed a two-year deal as head coach in May 2023. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board made widespread coaching changes after the team failed to make the World Cup semifinals later that year, and Bradburn resigned as the men’s high performance coach in January 2024.

The CDC report also said: "It was alleged that in fielding practice sessions Mr Bradburn would use the phrase 'this isn't Western Storm' or similar, when he considered that male players were demonstrating a lack of intensity in their fielding or not throwing hard enough, suggesting that they were 'throwing like girls'."

“The Cricket Regulator submitted that Mr Bradburn’s position as a head coach increased the seriousness of the offending in determining sanction because their view is that culture in any organisation starts from the top down and Mr Bradburn’s actions undermined the ECB’s and the game of cricket’s objective in being the most inclusive sport.

“The CR argued that this is illustrated by the fact that players picked up on Mr Bradburn’s words regarding Western Storm and started using those words themselves.”

CDC adjudicator Tim O'Gorman found that Bradburn’s conduct “perpetuated stereotypes” and had racist and sexist “connotations”, but “there was no racist or discriminatory intent in the comments made”

In his judgement, O'Gorman noted that Bradburn "meant no offence, never denied making these statements, co-operated fully with the investigation, and unreservedly apologised if any offence was taken".

"Mr Bradburn has stated that although he has always sought to create an environment which is inclusive and supportive, he reflected on the specific allegations, and quickly acknowledged that the language he used was not appropriate."

The commission, however, found that the comments were "prejudicial to the interests of cricket, brought the game and Mr Bradburn into disrepute, and undermined the ECB's [England and Wales Cricket Board] strategic objective of eradicating discrimination from the sport".

Bradburn this week told the Sunday Star Times he won’t be making any comment at this stage and was “simply focused on moving onto new positive chapters”.

After a lengthy domestic career with Northern Districts as a middle-order batter and off-spin bowler - and seven tests for NZ - Bradburn became head coach at ND in 2008.

He led them to the one-day title in his first year in charge, and the side did the one-day and first-class Plunket Shield double the following year.

ND also won the Plunket Shield title in 2011-12, and Bradburn was appointed Scotland's head coach in 2014.

He was appointed Glamorgan head coach on a three-year deal in January 2024.

In addition to his fine – which is suspended for a year – caution and reprimand, Bradburn is required to attend an educational course.

“Glamorgan Cricket acknowledges and welcomes this decision by the regulator,” said Glamorgan’s chief executive, Dan Cherry. “We have a zero-tolerance policy towards discriminatory behaviour so as soon as issues were pointed out to us we acted swiftly to protect those affected and show a strong line against poor behaviours that do not reflect the club’s values.

“We’re confident that the systems and processes we have in place to identify poor behaviour are working by virtue of the fact that those affected felt able to come forward on these points.”
