Which test series would you rank as the greatest test series in the last 25 years?

I am not talking about dominant series, like Ashes in 07, but rather series which produced high quality cricket and were competitive. It is understandable if the series had some one sided matches, but that the series were competitive overall.

For me, in no particular order:

1999 West Indies vs Australia

What a great series. I was 7 years old and vaguely remember this one. I have since watched any and every clip i could find of the series. This series is Brian Lara at his batting peak

2005 Ashes, Australia vs England

For England to beat that seemingly invincible team is one of the most amazing team achievements of the last 2 decades, if not all time. There was so much high quality cricket in that series.

India vs australia 2001 series.
West indies vs australia
Ashes 2005
India vs australia 2003-04 series.

which one? The one in Aus? Or the one that took place in India?

the one in Aus was poor cricket with Warne, McGrath missing and Lee coming back from an injury

India vs Australia, 2001. That was the series that had the biggest twist in the last 25 years. Losing the first Test and then following on in the second Test, India went on to win the series. That too at a time when the Aussies set a world record of most consecutive Test victories in history (16-17 Tests, I believe).

The return series and the one in 03-04 do not qualify for a legendary series.

Definitely not in the league of India va Aus 2001, Ashes 05 and WI Aus 1999 (not sure about this ones year)

India vs Pakistan in 1999 tests.

India in Australia 2003

Ashes 2005

SA vs Austalia which SA 1-0 justifying their number 1 rank against all odds in a hard fought series.

Pakistan vs Number rank england in 2012 in UAE.

From 2000s onwards,
Aus vs Eng 2005 Ashes
Aus vs Ind 2001
Aus vs SA 2012/13 in Australia

Some legendary performances in all these series.

Ashes 2005. The second, third and fourth tests all went to the wire.

I have to agree with both these series.

Also have to add in the test series between Pakistan and India in 1999, which led to the Asian test championship and Pakistan solidified their place as the best Asian side of the decade, by some distance in fact.

The 2005 Ashes though, form both a fans perspective and an objective view point, was the best.

Mcgrath missed matches in 2005 ashes too and those were the matches which England won.

I don't think that matters very much regarding the quality of the series. England nearly won with McGrath back and if i recall correctly, Aus were lucky to hold onto a draw. But Warne was still there and the rest of the Aussie team was full strength.

The India series in Aus without both of Australias great bowlers shouldn't count in any way, shape or form.

2005 Ashes and 2001 India VS Australia were both incredible .

Absolutely quality cricket , intense and full of twists.

Hard to choose between three Frank Worrell Trophy series in the 90s: 92/93, 94/95, 98/99. I'd go for the drawn series in 99 for those two Lara innings at Sabina Park and the Kensington Oval.
