Chennai Super Kings (CSK) face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) each other in the season opener of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, on Saturday. The match will kick-start a two-month cricket carnival which fans have been eagerly waiting for. It will also be a rematch of last year's final where CSK defeated KKR in the final.

In IPL 2022, CSK will be under a new captain with Ravindra Jadeja receiving the baton from MS Dhoni on Thursday. The defending champions will be without some of last season's star performers in the guise of Faf du Plessis, Shardul Thakur and Josh Hazlewood. Meanwhile, the side will also have some new faces with Devon Conway and Adam Milne joining ranks.

The franchise will be heavily reliant on the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dhoni, Jadeja and Ambati Rayudu in the upcoming game. Star all-rounder Moeen Ali will be missing the opener vs KKR.

KKR also have a new captain with Shreyas Iyer replacing Eoin Morgan as skipper. KKR purchased Iyer for a huge sum of Rs 12.25 crore during the mega auction this year. Even KKR will be without some crucial players, with the likes of Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi and Lockie Ferguson not a part of the squad anymore.

The likes of Nitish Rana, Venkatesh Iyer, Sunil Narine will be crucial to KKR's ambitions this season.

Both sides have faced each other a total of 28 times, with CSK coming out on top with 18 wins. KKR have won nine times and one match ended as a no-result encounter.

Last season, both sides faced each other thrice and CSK came out on top in all occasions, including the IPL 2021 final.

CSK defeated KKR by 27 runs in the final.

The season opener of IPL 2022 is scheduled to begin on 7:30 PM IST and both teams will be gunning for glory.

What is surprising it that Ravi Shastri is half the size he used to be. He has really worked on himself during his off time.

CSK so far batting like Pakistan in the Tests versus Australia.

CSK may lose their charm with new captaincy. Dhoni may also retire in coming years...

IPL 2022 | CSK vs KKR | 1st Match | Mumbai | Match Discussion

It makes very little sense for Dhoni to be batting so lower down the order, lower than some of the guys who he might be still better than even at this age.

A wonderful innings today, the highlight of which might actually be the helicopter shot styled whip to the mid-wicket; a brilliant shot. 132 still doesn't look like enough, though. Jadeja should've been batted at a slightly better pace than that. 145-ish might've worked on this wicket. Still, anything can happen.

All in all, a good start to the IPL for MS. A fifty after a long time, actually.

CSK 131/5 (20)
KKR 6/0 (1) CRR: 6 REQ: 6.63
Kolkata Knight Riders need 126 runs

Probably watching an IPL game after a very long time. Is it just me or is it that none of the Indian players like to smile or have a laugh in the middle. Everybody looks so serious and is tense as if their life depends on the game.

One of the rookie Indian bowler bowled a beamer to Dhoni and the bowler didnt even apologise. Are these guys thought how to respect?

A lot of money involved , you would be under pressure , since most players are far over priced here

KKR look like a well-balanced side this time.

Early days but could be there or thereabouts.

IPL 2022 | PKBS v RCB | 3rd Match | Mumbai | Match Discussion

Punjab Kings (PBKS) face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in match 3 of the IPL 2022 season at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Both franchises have been perennial underachievers over the years and are yet to win a IPL trophy. However, both teams splashed cash during the IPL auction and will look to break the hoodoo this season. PBKS will be led by Mayank Agarwal this season while Faf du Plessis will captain RCB after Virat Kohli had decided to step down last season. Both teams look good on paper this season, but will miss some of their overseas star for this game due to international commitments.

Rohit out.

I have no idea about the rest of the batters barring Pollard. Is MI weak this time? Among bowlers I only know Bumrah

Pujara too?

He is an exception to the rule. Even he would have mastered it had he taken it seriously and known that it has more perks than playing tests where it is harder to be in the Indian XI for long period.

This is incredible batting by Faf.. was struggling most of the time but he hangs there and he's exploding now..

At the end of 11th over Faf scored 23 in 34 balls.. in his next 15 balls he scored 45 runs..

Odean Smith is overhyped rubbish like most West Indians in the IPL

Getting paid tons for non existant skills and performances.

When you are chasing 200 plus here , you need to keep momentum throughout, no lull periods.

Once Rabada is back , he will not play

Bairstow and Rabada will make their team very strong.
