Former cricketer and minister Arjuna Ranatunga on Tuesday urged all the Sri Lankan players, who are playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), to come and stand in support of their country during the ongoing economic crisis. Sri Lanka is battling a severe economic crisis with food and fuel scarcity affecting a large number of the people in the island nation. The economy has been in a free-fall since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I really don't know but there are some cricketers who are lavishly playing in the IPL and haven't spoken about their country. Unfortunately, people are scared to speak against the government. These cricketers are also working for the cricket board under the ministry and they are trying to protect their jobs. But now they have to take a step as some of the young cricketers also came forward and gave statements in support of the protest," Arjuna Ranatunga told ANI.

"When something is going wrong, you should have the guts to come out and speak against it, without thinking about your business. People ask me why I am not in the protests. It's just that I have been into politics for the last 19 years and this is not a political issue. So far, none of the political parties and politicians have got into the protests and that's the biggest strength of the people of this country," he added.

Earlier, Sri Lankan players like Wanindu Hasaranga and Bhanuka Rajapaksa came in support of the ongoing protests against the economic crisis.

"I am sure you all know who are the players, playing in the IPL. I don't want to mention but I would want them to leave their job for a week and come in support of the protests," said the former cricketer.

The economy has been in a free-fall since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, affecting tourism.

Sri Lanka is also facing a foreign exchange shortage, which has affected its capacity to import food and fuel. The shortage of essential goods forced Sri Lanka to seek assistance from friendly countries.

The economic situation has led to huge protests with demands for the resignation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Earlier, in a special address to the nation on Monday, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa requested people to remain patient and stop taking to the streets in order to enable the government to resolve the situation.

This year's IPL has been brilliant so far. 10 teams meaning more young talents at display.
All the games in Mumbai/Pune meaning all matches in world class stadiums.

The pitches have been brilliant with equal contest between bat and ball.

The only poor thing in this entire IPL is CSK team. Watching them play is like watching a benefits match with all old, expired and retired players.

Uthappa, Rayudu, Dhoni, Bravo, Moeen Ali in a T20 game- what type of line up is this in 2022? No wonder they are bottom of the table.

CSK should have retained Faf atleast if they love oldies so much and should have made Thala Dhoni mentor or something. But greed has no end.

Shivam Dubey is the only watchable player from Chennai should tell you something about that team :91:

LOL Moeen Ali is so bad.

Embarrassing when you have someone like him batting at 3 for your team.

Biggest waste of money for Chennai to retain him,

atrocious.

Dubey is not bad actually

He failed miserably in the limited opportunities he got a the highest level. Until he proves that he can be a reliable lower order batsman, he will never make it to the international cricket again.

LOL Moeen Ali is so bad.

Embarrassing when you have someone like him batting at 3 for your team.

Biggest waste of money for Chennai to retain him,

atrocious.

LOL what are you talking about.
He is one of the main reasons CSK won the tournament last season that's why they retained him for 8 crores.
He has had two decent outings so far in his four innings
He only failed in one innings and he got run out today.

Disappointing effort today with the bat by Moeen Ali.

Tidy figures with the ball so far though.

LOL Moeen Ali is so bad.

Embarrassing when you have someone like him batting at 3 for your team.

Biggest waste of money for Chennai to retain him,

atrocious.

Lol what? That was brilliant peace of fielding..

Kartik is in form of his life , if He had played like this last IPL KKR would have won the Title

RCB has responded well to the chase , they have tried to come as close as possible to the target

Chennai Super Kings displayed a clinical performance to defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 23 runs in the 22nd game of IPL 2022 season at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday. Shivam Dube and Robin Uthappa played knocks of 94 and 88 respectively as Chennai Super Kings scored 216/4 in the 20 overs and then the Ravindra Jadeja-led side followed it up with an all-round performance to outclass RCB. With the ball in hand, Maheesh Theekshana scalped four wickets for CSK. Suyash Prabhudessai, Shahbaz Ahmed and Dinesh Karthik showed glimpses of brilliance with the bat for RCB but it was not enough and in the end, CSK registered a comprehensive win. This is CSK's first win this season, while RCB suffered their second loss in the ongoing edition.

IPL 2022 | 26 March - 29 May | Matches Discussions

It literally rained sixes yesterday; what a partnership that was between Uthappa and Dube! A grand comeback by Chennai, but is it already too late in the tournament? Let´s see.... I hope not.

Dube´s batting stance, his hitting, everything about him reminds me so much of Yuvraj, mind you, everything. However, I still haven´t forgiven him the 25-run over against Lucknow, though, which ended up being the single biggest factor in that defeat. However, he shouldn´t have been given the penultimate over in that match to begin with, of course.

RCB as always gives the best chance for CSK to get back into form!

The Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host the qualifier 1 and eliminator of the Indian Premier League, while the qualifier 2 and the final will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 29.

While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to formally announce the venues in the next few days, several sources have confirmed the development to Sportstar.

The league stage of the tournament will conclude in Maharashtra on May 22, after which the four teams will travel to Kolkata and Ahmedabad respectively keeping the bio-bubble intact.

“So far, the tournament has been going on smoothly and given the current scenario, the Board is confident of hosting the playoffs across two venues. Since, travelling will be restricted two just two cities, the bio-bubble can be maintained properly,” a source said.

Earlier, there were reports that Lucknow could host a couple of knockout fixtures keeping in mind the fact that the city now has a team - Lucknow Super Giants. But the sources in the BCCI have confirmed that even though such an idea was proposed, it has been decided to go ahead with Kolkata and Ahmedabad keeping the logistical factors in mind.

In 2021, the India leg of IPL had to be postponed after several players tested positive, once travelling started, and taking lessons from that, the Board is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the entire tournament goes ahead smoothly.

A decision on the crowd capacity will be taken after assessing the COVID-19 situation around that time.

As of now, the BCCI has allowed 50 per cent capacity for the group stage fixtures. But with some of the states again witnessing a spurt in COVID-19 cases, the Board is expected to consult the local authorities and decide accordingly.

Some of the state association officials told this publication that they are awaiting a formal approval from the Board, and the preparation would start once the BCCI officially allots them the fixtures.

Decision on Women’s T20 Challenge venue soon

The Board is also likely to finalise the dates and the venue for the Women’s T20 Challenge, which is to be conducted in the third week of May.

While earlier Pune was shortlisted as the venue, the IPL Governing Council and the BCCI office bearers are expected to take a final decision on the venue over the next few days. Like the previous years, some of the top overseas cricketers are expected to feature in the tournament, along with the India internationals.

Wow! Donald Brevis is the closest you have got anything to AB.

Such clean hitting and all round the ground, 28 of 5 balls of Rahul Chahar.

Arshdeep , Vaibhav are bowling 140s that’s good to see.
