Well it's just show it's clearly edged from side on angle.. umpires should've checked that..

Maxwell to Wade, out Lbw!! This is very interesting. The ball definitely seemed to deflect off the bat but UltraEdge interesting didn't show any spike as the ball passed the bat. On the evidence available. third ump sticks with the onfield call but Wade is livid. Cannot believe. We have been UltraEdge misbehave this tournament. Remember the Rohit Sharma caught behind when there was a huge wave even before the ball came to the bat? The opposite has happened this time. Wade went for the sweep, seemed like an under edge onto pad. Impact in line and given. Ball tracking says smashing into middle and off. Wade lbw b Maxwell 16(13) [4s-2 6s-1]

My bad health the recent times never quite allowed me to state this here on the forum or anywhere, but I had been saying this at home since a couple of years now that the ball hitting the stumps and the bails not getting dislodged happens too often nowadays, and my thought was that this was perhaps down to the bails being heavier nowadays due to the LED effect etc. Well, I saw exactly the same being discussed a few days ago on a cricket website, and today's instance possibly became the biggest reason behind Gujarat`s loss, although I was supporting Bangalore.

Maxwell, the Man of the Match today, contributed with 40 not out of 18. He would've been out for a golden duck had the bails come off off the ball bowled by Rashid Khan. This is not fair to the bowlers and needs to be looked into.
 
A fired up Virat Kohli roared back to form with a fine half-century as Royal Challengers Bangalore stayed alive in the IPL play-off race with a thumping eight-wicket win over table toppers Gujarat Titans on Thursday. This was after skipper Hardik Pandya scored a gritty 47-ball 62 to lift GT to a competitive 168 for five after opting to bat. Kohli (73 off 54) and captain Fa du Plessis (44 off 38) shared a match-winning 115-run opening stand before Glenn Maxwell (40 not out off 18) went ballistic to ensure the team got home in 18.4 overs.

By virtue of this win, RCB moved to fourth place in the standings with 16 points but will have to wait for the Delhi Capitals-Mumbai Indians game on Saturday to know their fate. A loss for Delhi would ensure RCB a play-off berth.

As the 'Kohli Kohli' chants suggested, the whole of Wankhede and probably the country wanted to see the former India captain back amongst the runs and with a little bit of luck going his way, he was back playing the shots he is known for.

When Kohi picked Mohammed Shami for two lofted boundaries over the bowler's head and cover in the third over, it looked it would be his night. His next four was a streaky one off Hardik who bowled with the new ball.

The very next ball, Kohli was at his animated best as he whipped Hardik towards square leg with Rashid Khan missing a tough chance in the deep.

A sign of his growing confidence was an aerial straight drive off Rashid. Kohli was quick on his feet both against Rashid as well as the pacers. The Indian superstar brought up his second fifty of the season by whipping a full ball off Rashid over deep midwicket.

With Kohli on song, Du Plessis played his part perfectly and kept rotating the strike besides an odd boundary.

After the captain's dismissal, Maxwell joined Kohli and went ballistic from ball one. The Australian's cameo included a reverse scoop shot off Hardik that went all the way. After collecting his second six off Rashid, Kohli tried one too many and got stumped in the 17th over but the job had been well and truly done by then.

Earlier, Hardik lifted GT to a competitive total. Coming into the game with a string of low scores, he warmed up nicely for the play-offs with a well crafted fifty even though he was not at his fluent best.

RCB limited GT to 72 for three in 10 overs, largely due to their brilliance in the field despite Wriddhiman Saha's (31 off 22) threatening stay in the middle.

Saha provided another brisk start with some clean hitting but his opening partner Shubman Gill perished cheaply. The right-hander poked at a good length ball and Maxwell, standing at a widish first slip, plucked a stunning one handed catch diving to his right.

Matthew Wade, who has not been at his explosive best in the IPL, fell to a controversial call which also attracted empathy from Kohli. Wade was sure that he underedged a sweep shot off Maxwell and took no time in reviewing the on-field decision, which was out.

However, despite a clear deviation in the ball's trajectory before it thudded on to the pads, the UltraEdge did not detect it and the TV umpire stayed with the on-field umpire's call. Wade had no choice but to grudgingly walk back into the dugout. Saha, who hit four boundaries and a six, had Hardik for company in the middle but following a mix up with his captain, the wicketkeeper fell way short of his crease when Du Plessis came up with stunning direct hit from mid off.

Hardik, who was dropped on 14, made it count alongside David Miller (34 off 25), who continued his impressive run in the tournament.

Also, the strike not changing now, even if the batsmen happen to cross each other before the catch is taken, according to the change made in the rules, is a ridiculous rule which has taken out a very big tactical and chess-like element out of the game. Quite often I've seen in the ongoing IPL that either teams have been bundled out or one tail-ender has been dismissed after another just because the professional batsman batting at the other end couldn't get on strike. This is rubbish. Surely, there`re better ways to make the game more friendly for the bowlers - something which I'm all in favour of. In fact, Kolkata mjght`ve actually never lost yesterday's thrilling match had Narine come on strike for the last ball.
 
In IPL the layoffs are decided in the last match , the way the tournament shaping up last few years , it makes the tournament suspicious in nature.

I've been most impressed by Ashwin`s batting throughout this season. He's such an intelligent cricketer who has found gaps with the precision of a surgeon. Good on Rajasthan for giving him opportunities to bat this tournament.

Dhoni`s innings totally sucked the momentum out of Chennai`s innings and might well have been the biggest factor behind the loss today. However, personally for me, though, the good news is that Dhoni declared today at the toss that he'll very likely be playing the next season as well. :D

Rajasthan Royals on Friday qualified for the IPL 2022 playoffs after beating Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in Match 68 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Chasing a target of 151, RR chase down the target with two balls to spare. Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a brilliant fifty while Ravichandran Ashwin scored an unbeaten 40, helping RR finish second in the points table. Earlier, Moeen Ali top-scored with a brilliant 93 but Rajasthan Royals restricted CSK to a total of 150 for six. After electing to bat, Moeen Ali gave CSK a flying start despite the early wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad. He scored his fifty off just 19 balls before RR pegged back CSK with quick wickets.
 
Ashwin should play for India at 8, Shardul/Deepak Chahar at 7 and H Pandya at 6.

Drop Jadeja, he is not good enough in this format.

Both Ashwin and Jadeja would have served well with the bat had they got more chances to bat in Top 5. When they bat down the order at No.7 and No.8, they don't have the power game which is most required at that batting position. Even Jadeja improved his power game recently (and hence succeeded at No.7/8). In initial years even Jadeja used to struggle with the bat. (Even today he is not 100% reliable/consistant)

Ashwin would probably have been a proper spin-bowling alrounder (especially in Tests). Had he sealed 1 of the top 6 batting spot, then he would have served as lone spinner even in overseas tests (and probably as captain also!) Dhoni was poor in test cricket captaincy, he was the one who should have seen these things! Kohli at least succeeded in utilizing the fast bowlers and redeeming Rohit/Rahul in tests! (barring the tolerance with Pujara/Rahane). Who knows if Ashwin had captained India during the time Dhoni captained (Probably Ashwin should have been Test-Captain and Dhoni should have been LOI Captain where he was good) then he would have taken more responsibility with the bat (and even did that to Jadeja)

Mumbai Indians delivered a knockout blow to Delhi Capitals in Match 59 of IPL 2022, registering a five-wicket win and enabling RCB to grab the fourth and final playoff spot. Chasing a target of 160, MI had lost Rohit Sharma early in their chase. However, Ishan Kishan and Dewald Brevis put them back in the contest, before both were dismissed in quick succession.

With the required run-rate mounting up, Tim David and Tilak Varma played cameos of 34 and 21 as MI chased down the total with five balls to spare. Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah delivered the goods with the ball as Mumbai Indians restricted Delhi Capitals to a total of 159 for seven. After being put into bat, DC were reeling at 50 for four at one stage before Rovman Powell and Rishabh Pant have put their innings back on track.

However, Ramandeep Singh dismissed Pant to hault DC's progress. Daniel Sams had given MI an early breakthrough, removing David Warner in the third over. Jasprit Bumrah then struck twice in as many overs, removing Mitchell Marsh and Prithvi Shaw, respectively. Mayank Markande then landed another blow as he got the better of Sarfaraz Khan.

Ramandeep Singh then also bagged a couple at the death as DC failed to cross the 160-run mark
 
CSK were not good enough to win close games: Fleming

MUMBAI: Chennai Super Kings found it challenging to match their "catastrophic success" in IPL 2022 were the defending champions were not "good enough" to win tight games, feels head coach Stephen Fleming.

One of the most successful sides in the IPL, the four-times champions ended their campaign at the penultimate spot, managing just four wins in 14 games. "There was a mixed success. We sort of stuttered our way through. We had a number of games that were close, but we were not good enough to get across the line."

"That's the normal story of the season we don't qualify," Fleming said after CSK's five-wicket loss to Rajasthan Royals on Friday.

The New Zealander added that the team, comprising several new players, found it challenging to play the same way as previous seasons.

"When you start a new cycle and have a number of new players and a new dynamic in the team it can be testing."

"We suffered from catastrophic success so just trying to play the same way, continue from our last four years, which were very successful, is a real challenge. Dropping back and understanding what the new players can do, it can take a little bit of time." Fleming, however, feels the underwhelming season will be a catalyst for the players for the next edition of the league.

"We didn't have a couple of form players that could get us through those early days, get the win and the momentum going. We had the opportunity to do better than we did but the reality is we couldn't qualify for the semis and that will be the catalyst for next year."

Fleming picked rookie pacers Mukesh Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh's performance among the positives in CSK's lackluster season. "I think he was excellent. A nervous start, but we stuck with him and we reaped the rewards towards the end. He just got better and better. Simarjeet is also responding to the pressure. So, those two boys definitely were positive."

"The first year of the three-year cycle is a chance to see some players. This one today was great to have a look at a couple of guys under pressure." He added that all-rounders Moeen Ali, who scored a 57-ball 93against RR, and Ravindra Jadeja are key components of the team.

"Ali was superb. He is one of our marquee players and (on Friday against RR) I thought it was probably going to be a 250-run wicket, but the game suddenly changed at the halfway point of our batting."

"But Moeen has shown us his class with both the bat and the ball and his partner Jadeja make a key part of the side," Fleming added.

SRH and RR are least following franchisees and least brand value though they are one time winners.
You can't find loyal fan base outside the state unlike CSK, RCB and MI.

Punjab Kings on Sunday defeated SunRisers Hyderabad in the final league game of the ongoing IPL 2022 season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Needing 158 to win, PBKS chased down the total with 29 balls and five wickets to spare. Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan had given PBKS a flying start before the former was dismissed. Dhawan and Liam Livingstone then put PBKS back in the contest before Jitesh Sharma also took the game to the SRH bowlers.

Earlier, Harpreet Brar and Nathan Ellis starred with the ball as PBKS restricted SRH to a total of 157 for eight. After opting to bat, SRH lost the wicket of Priyam Garg early. Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi then steadied their ship, adding 47 runs for the second wicket. However, both batter were dismissed in quick succession as PBKS pegged SRH back. SRH were reeling at 96 for five at one stage before Romario Shepherd and Washington Sundar provided them with some much-needed impetus.

I genuinely believe that Livingstone is the best six-hitter in the game right now - at least in T20 cricket. He hits them for fun and often has hit two or three of them by the time he either gets his eye in or gets out cheaply. That six that hit today, the 2000th six of the season, was an incredible shot. Very rarely I've anyone hit a six like that, from the position that he picked up the ball and the somewhat awkward position that he was in. It takes serious talent and ability to be able to play a shot like that.
 
The two most ferocious hitters in the IPL , Tim David and Liam Livingstone have been playing the Psl for a while now.
Local fans need to stop undermining the quality of PSL, its a a quality tournament with very high quality bowling.
 
A Super Over could decide Indian Premier League's champions should rain gods play spoilsport and no play is possible in regulation time. If not even an over a side is possible, the league standing will take precedence and will decide the winner, according to an IPL briefing note. This will also apply to the Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, which do not have reserve days. May 30 has been kept aside as a reserve day for the summit clash, which will begin at 8pm.

With the IPL moving to Kolkata for the playoffs and inclement weather forecast for the city, the IPL has issued certain guidelines in case of rain-interrupted games. While Gujarat Titans take on Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday, Lucknow Super Giants will play Royal Challengers Bangalore at the same venue the next day in the Eliminator.

The second Qualifier and the final are slated to be played in Ahmedabad on Friday and Sunday respectively.

"The number of overs in the playoff match may, if necessary, be reduced so that each side has the opportunity to bat for five overs," the IPL guidelines read.

"For the Eliminator and each Qualifier playoff matches, in the event that it is not possible to schedule a five-over match to complete by the end of the extra time on the original day, the teams will, if conditions permit, play a Super Over to determine the winner of the relevant Eliminator or Qualifier match." If the Super Over is not possible "the team that finished highest in the league table after the 70 matches of the regular season shall be declared the winner of the relevant playoff match or final," it added.

In case of the two Qualifiers and the Eliminator, if one innings is complete but no play is possible in the second, the DLS method will come into play.

If the final starts on May 29 that is at least one ball is bowled then the "match will resume at the point where it stopped on the previous day. For the avoidance of doubt, any match recalculations done without the match actually restarting on the previous night will be ignored."
