Whats wrong with it? Seems like they are enjoying the hajj, what else could you want from them?

What's the problem? The people are enjoying themselves without hurting anyone.

In normal routine its a normal thing but at least i can't expect something like this during Hajj

They're not doing anything that can be regarded as 'sinful' or disrespectful, so its alright.

The whole purpose of Hajj is to enhance your spirituality and leave the materialistic stuff behind.

Yeah right, a selfie is clearly going to effect their spiritual life on Hajj. By that logic same can be said about other kind of photos or videos.

It's a holy vacation for some people. What were you expecting.

I don't think you understand, so we'll leave at that.

Not everyone is super religious and spiritual. Some do it because their parents asked them to accompany them. Some go there for fun and sight seeing.

I don't see any problem with selfies, who wouldn't like to take a picture of a journey of a lifetime. now you have comfortable Hajj and Umrah packages, i think those take away a bit from the whole spiritual experience than a selfie.

Oh come on, its a guy taking his own picture in front of something he finds interesting. Would it be any different if instead of selfie someone else took his picture at the same place doing the same thing?

Now dont start what hajj is supposed to be (spiritual journey etc etc), nobody and nothing is perfect in this world. People are born with flaws and they like to have harmless fun

If you want then ban phones from makkah but as long as these people are not disrespecting anyone i think its fine.

a dew years of such disdain and soon it will become an acceptable thing to do!!

History in motion. Cellphone cameras, and the like. Inevitable. A photo is a photo regardless.

For most people, it is the first time they have been out of the country. Let them enjoy.

People hardly go for religious/spiritual reasons, We see this regularly in India. Lakh's of so called devotees visit Badrinath/Hemkund Sahib every year and commit so many sins. You hardly get sense of accomplishment, more like picnic.

Ridiculous thread. So if you go for Hajj, you won't do shopping or go to restaurants?

How does taking a bloody selfie affect spirituality?

Btw, are cameras allowed these days? When I went for Hajj in 2002, they were very strict about it.

No issues this past Summer when I went. Only issue is that if you stand in one area for too long, they'll come push you along simply to control crowd movement.

Absolutely no problem, pictures are a good source of reminders...And the first Hajj is indeed a very pleasant experience so I'd love to take many of them.

But unethical stuff like taking your tongue out, or using the SnapChat's awful emoticons are a disgrace.

Good to hear that the Saudis have moved on with times.

While I think this question is ridiculous, I remember back in Qatar when one of the biggest malls there was on fire (and my mom was lucky to escape) some idiots stayed back to take selfies in the soot and fumes which was the height of stupidity as people were rushing out for their lives and an entire daycare in the mall was burned down with all the children in there losing their lives.

Those selfies were posted by the news websites, but can't seem to find them.

Smart phones have changed many things in the world today and specially in the Middle East. I was surprised to see almost every foreigner in Medina this year skyping/video calling with their loved ones while walking in and out of the Prophet's mosque.
