The Hanif Mohammad Trophy, a non-first-class four-day tournament, is set to kick-start from Friday, 29 August in four cities across Pakistan as 12 regional teams begin their quest for two Quaid-e-Azam Trophy spots.

The teams are divided in two groups with Group A comprising of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Karachi Whites, Lahore Blues and Quetta. Their matches will take place at Multan Cricket Stadium, Abbasia Sports Complex in Rahim Yar Khan and Dring Stadium in Bahawalpur.

Dera Murad Jamali, FATA, Karachi Blues, Larkana, Multan and Rawalpindi make up Group B and their matches will take place across National Bank Stadium, SBP Sports Complex and UBL Sports Complex in Karachi.

A total of five rounds, with each one comprising of six matches, will run from 29 August to 25 September with two days of rest between each. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2025-26, which is expected to begin in October.

This looks a ridiculous structure. What about rest of the Test and other quality players who will not qualify to play Quaid e Azam Trophy because their teams didn't get to one of the top 2 spots?

Will they simply not play FC this season?

Wahid Bangulzai (Quetta Region) smashed 104 off 168 balls with 13 fours and a six.

Zaman Khan (AJK Region) impressed with 3 wickets for 36 runs in 13 overs.

Stumps Day 1:
Multan Region reached 323/5 in 83.2 overs against Karachi Region (B), with Zain Abbas leading the charge with a brilliant hundred.

Zain Abbas (Multan Region) played a commanding innings of 124 off 171 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes, anchoring his side deep into the first day against Karachi Region (B).

Waqar Hussain (Multan Region) provided vital support with a patient 85 from 182 deliveries, ensuring stability after the early wicket against Karachi Region (B).

Stumps Day 1: Hyderabad Region piled on an imposing 397/4 in 85 overs against Karachi Region (W), riding on three standout batting performances.

Muhammad Suleman (Hyderabad Region) was the star of the day with a magnificent 159 off 185 balls, hitting 24 fours and a six

Saad Khan (Hyderabad Region) played a classy innings of 99 from 133 deliveries, falling just one run short of a hundred

Rizwan Mehmood (Hyderabad Region) kept the scoreboard moving with an unbeaten 86 off 109 balls, striking 13 boundaries

Daniyal Hussain Rajput (Hyderabad Region) provided late stability with 14 not out from 37 balls to ensure a strong finish

Hanif Mohammad Trophy Grade-II Tournament

Lahore, August 30 – Day 2 of the first-round matches in the Hanif Mohammad Trophy Grade-II tournament.


For Faisalabad, Abdul Samad scored 161 against Lahore Blues with 11 fours and 6 sixes, while Ali Shan made 83, and both Irfan Khan and Ibtisam ur Rehman hit half-centuries. In reply, Lahore Blues’ Muhammad Saleem remained unbeaten on 60.

Against FATA, Rawalpindi’s first innings featured half-centuries from Abdul Faseeh, Affan Ishaq, Aqib Shah, and Atif Khan, while Sameen Gul picked up four wickets.

Hyderabad piled up 637/7 against Karachi Whites, with Rizwan Mehmood scoring 189, Muhammad Suleman 159, and Ali Shan 100.

For AJK against Quetta, Hasnain Shamir struck a century, supported by Hasan Raza (87) and Umar Hayat (53).

Multan’s first innings against Karachi Blues saw Zain Abbas notch up a century, while Waqar Hussain (85), Sheroon Siraj (83), and Arafat Minhas (82) all made valuable contributions.

For Dera Murad Jamali, Taimoor Khan hit a half-century against Larkana, while Larkana’s leg-spinner Zahid Mehmood claimed four wickets.
