The Hanif Mohammad Trophy, a non-first-class four-day tournament, is set to kick-start from Friday, 29 August in four cities across Pakistan as 12 regional teams begin their quest for two Quaid-e-Azam Trophy spots.

The teams are divided in two groups with Group A comprising of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Karachi Whites, Lahore Blues and Quetta. Their matches will take place at Multan Cricket Stadium, Abbasia Sports Complex in Rahim Yar Khan and Dring Stadium in Bahawalpur.

Dera Murad Jamali, FATA, Karachi Blues, Larkana, Multan and Rawalpindi make up Group B and their matches will take place across National Bank Stadium, SBP Sports Complex and UBL Sports Complex in Karachi.

A total of five rounds, with each one comprising of six matches, will run from 29 August to 25 September with two days of rest between each. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2025-26, which is expected to begin in October.

This looks a ridiculous structure. What about rest of the Test and other quality players who will not qualify to play Quaid e Azam Trophy because their teams didn't get to one of the top 2 spots?

Will they simply not play FC this season?

Lahore, August 30 – Day 2 of the first-round matches in the Hanif Mohammad Trophy Grade-II tournament.


For Faisalabad, Abdul Samad scored 161 against Lahore Blues with 11 fours and 6 sixes, while Ali Shan made 83, and both Irfan Khan and Ibtisam ur Rehman hit half-centuries. In reply, Lahore Blues’ Muhammad Saleem remained unbeaten on 60.

Against FATA, Rawalpindi’s first innings featured half-centuries from Abdul Faseeh, Affan Ishaq, Aqib Shah, and Atif Khan, while Sameen Gul picked up four wickets.

Hyderabad piled up 637/7 against Karachi Whites, with Rizwan Mehmood scoring 189, Muhammad Suleman 159, and Ali Shan 100.

For AJK against Quetta, Hasnain Shamir struck a century, supported by Hasan Raza (87) and Umar Hayat (53).

Multan’s first innings against Karachi Blues saw Zain Abbas notch up a century, while Waqar Hussain (85), Sheroon Siraj (83), and Arafat Minhas (82) all made valuable contributions.

For Dera Murad Jamali, Taimoor Khan hit a half-century against Larkana, while Larkana’s leg-spinner Zahid Mehmood claimed four wickets.
 

Hanif Mohammad Trophy Grade-II Tournament- Day 3


Lahore, 31 August – The third day of matches in the first round of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy Grade-II cricket tournament.

FATA’s Muhammad Farooq scored a century against Rawalpindi. Rawalpindi’s Mubsir Khan took five wickets, while Yasir Khan scored 84 runs in Rawalpindi’s second innings.

Karachi Whites’ Saad Baig smashed a century against Hyderabad, scoring 190 runs with the help of 26 fours and one six. Muhammad Usman remained unbeaten on 95, and Muhammad Taha contributed 76 runs.

Dera Murad Jamali were set a target of 476 runs to win against Larkana, but lost 4 wickets for 142 runs. Earlier in Larkana’s second innings, Malhar Rasool struck a century, while Sabit Ali and Ghulam Raza hit half-centuries.

Karachi Blues’ Rameez Aziz scored a century against Multan, with Saud Shakeel, Abdullah Fazal, and Umair bin Yousuf making fifties. Multan’s Hasan Hafeez claimed five wickets.

At Multan Cricket Stadium, play between Faisalabad and Lahore Blues on the third day was abandoned due to rain. Similarly, at Dring Stadium in Bahawalpur, the third day’s play between Quetta and Azad Jammu & Kashmir was washed out by rain.

Match #6 – Rawalpindi Region vs FATA Region
Rawalpindi Region overcame FATA Region with solid totals of 375 and 260/8, winning the match by 155 runs.

Dera Murad Jamali was bowled out for 201 runs chasing a target of 476 runs.
Zahid Mahmood took 5 wickets for 72 runs. He dismissed 9 players in the match.
The match between Karachi Whites and Hyderabad ended in a draw.
Karachi Whites' Muhammad Usman Rahim scored a magnificent double century. He scored 245 runs with the help of 27 fours and 5 sixes and remained not out.

Karachi on September 4. The first day of the second round of matches of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy Grade 2 Cricket Tournament.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir's Hasnain Shamir scored 88 and Hasan Raza 78 against Faisalabad.

Hyderabad's Saad Khan and Mohammad Saddam scored centuries against Lahore Blues. Mohammad Saddam was dismissed for 128, Saad Khan was not out on 164, adding 254 runs to the second wicket partnership between the two.

Quetta's Bismillah Khan scored a century against Karachi Whites, scoring 103 runs.

Dera Murad Jamali's Nasir Khan's century against Multan, 131 not out. Half century by Majid Ali. 127 runs for the first wicket.

Hanif Mohammad Trophy Grade II Cricket Tournament

Karachi Whites’ Saad Baig scores his second consecutive century

Karachi, September 5 – The second day of the second-round matches in the Hanif Mohammad Trophy Grade II Cricket Tournament.

Multan’s Imam-ul-Haq displayed superb batting against Dera Murad Jamali, remaining unbeaten on 176 runs. With Zain Abbas, he added 190 runs for the first wicket. Zain Abbas was dismissed for 81 runs.

For the second wicket, Imam-ul-Haq and Imran Rafiq built an unbeaten partnership of 146 runs, with Imran Rafiq not out on 70 runs.

Karachi Whites’ Saad Baig and Jahanzeb Sultan scored centuries against Quetta, sharing a 212-run opening stand. Jahanzeb Sultan made 118, while Saad Baig scored 146.

This was Saad Baig’s second consecutive century, having previously scored 190 runs against Hyderabad. Mohammad Taha scored 52 before getting out, while Mohammad Usman remained not out on 70.

For Faisalabad, Owais Zafar played an unbeaten knock of 117 runs against AJK (Azad Jammu & Kashmir).

Hyderabad posted a massive 524 runs in their first innings against Lahore Blues, powered by Saad Khan’s 175 runs, which included 30 boundaries.

Karachi Blues’ Danish Aziz shone with a brilliant all-round performance against FATA. After taking 5 wickets for 40 runs in FATA’s first innings, he scored 56 runs in Karachi Blues’ second innings. Ghazi Ghori also contributed 73 runs.

Larkana’s team was bowled out for 160 runs in their first innings against Rawalpindi, with Kashif Ali claiming four wickets.
 
Karachi, September 6 – The third day of matches in the second round of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy Grade II cricket tournament.

FATA defeated Karachi Blues by 5 wickets.

FATA was set a target of 270 runs. Mohammad Usman and Mohammad Sarwar scored half-centuries.

Multan’s Imam-ul-Haq smashed a triple century against Dera Murad Jamali, scoring 330 runs with the help of 34 fours and 8 sixes before getting out.

Sharon Siraj remained unbeaten on 126 runs. Imam and Sharon added 246 runs for the third wicket. Imran Rafiq contributed 79 runs.

Karachi Whites’ Saifullah Bangash hit a century against Quetta.

In Quetta’s second innings, Salahuddin remained not out on 95 runs.

Faisalabad’s Owais Zafar scored 127 runs against Azad Jammu and Kashmir before getting out. Ali Shan fell 6 runs short of a century.

Lahore Blues’ Mohammad Saleem struck an unbeaten century against Hyderabad.

Rawalpindi defeated Larkana by 202 runs.

Larkana was given a target of 398 runs but the team was bowled out for 195. Mubashir Khan took 6 wickets for 42 runs.
In Rawalpindi’s second innings, Yasir Khan scored a century while Mubashir Khan made 85 runs.
 
Given the state of Pakistan's test side, I wouldn't be surprised to see Imam back for the South Africa series

Final (fourth) day of second-round matches in the Hanif Mohammad Trophy Grade-II cricket tournament:

Multan defeated Dera Murad Jamali by an innings and 161 runs.

Dera Murad Jamali scored 142 runs in their second innings.Faisal Akram took 5 wickets for 29 runs.The highlight of the match was Imam-ul-Haq’s triple century (330 runs).

Karachi Whites defeated Quetta by 10 wickets.

Mohammad Raza took 4 wickets for Karachi Whites. Salahuddin scored 123 runs in Quetta’s second innings.

Faisalabad vs Azad Jammu & Kashmir
match ended in a draw due to rain on the final day.

Lahore Blues vs Hyderabad match also ended in a draw.

The fourth day’s play was washed out by rain.
 
Update on Hanif Mohammad Trophy third round

The six fixtures of the third round of the ongoing Hanif Mohammad Trophy have been rescheduled to start on Thursday, 11 September instead of Wednesday, 10 September due to rain forecast in Bahawalpur, Karachi, Multan and Rahim Yar Khan.

The schedule of rounds four and five remains the same.

The first day of play between Rawalpindi and Multan at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi was called off due to a wet outfield.
In Multan, Faisalabad's Abdul Samad scored a century against Karachi Whites, remaining unbeaten with 103 runs.

In Bahawalpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir's Zaman Khan bowled exceptionally well against Lahore Blues, taking 5 wickets for 17 runs. Lahore Blues were all out for just 71 runs.

In Rahim Yar Khan, Hyderabad's Mohammad Suleman scored a century against Quetta, remaining unbeaten with 157 runs. Daniyal Hussain also scored a half-

Karachi, 12 September – On the second day of the third round of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy Grade-II Cricket Tournament:

In Rahim Yar Khan, Hyderabad’s Mohammad Suleman smashed a brilliant double century against Quetta, scoring 273 runs with the help of 36 fours and 5 sixes. Jawad Ali Bhatti added 72 runs, with both sharing a 230-run partnership for the eighth wicket. Mohammad Ibrahim claimed 5 wickets for 117 runs. In Quetta’s first innings, Jawad Ali Bhatti took three wickets while Abdul Wahid Bangalzai struck a half-century.

In Karachi, only 45 overs of play were possible between Karachi Blues and Dera Murad Jamali. Saqib Khan of Karachi Blues took three wickets.

Also in Karachi, Larkana’s Mohsin Raza remained unbeaten on 43 runs against FATA, with just 50 overs of play possible today.

In Karachi, Multan’s Imam-ul-Haq continued his fine batting form, scoring 70 runs against Rawalpindi. Imran Rafiq scored 65 and Arafat Minhas 52, both unbeaten. Mubeer Khan took 4 wickets.

In Multan, Faisalabad’s Abdul Samad hit a superb 191 runs against Karachi Whites, supported by Ali Shan’s 61. Maaz Khurram bagged 6 wickets for 75 runs.

Karachi, September 13 - Third day of the third round of the Hanif Muhammad Trophy Grade Two Cricket Tournament.

In Rahim Yar Khan, Abdul Wahid Bangulzai of Quetta scored a century against Hyderabad. Muhammad Ibrahim scored a half-century. Jawad Ali Bhatti took 5 wickets for 62 runs. Muhammad Suleman scored a half-century in Hyderabad's second innings.

In Karachi, Usman Khan of Karachi Blues scored a century against Dera Murad Jamali. Umair Bin Yousuf scored 95 and Ramiz Aziz scored 79 not out. Fahad Hussain scored 5 wickets for 84 runs.

In Karachi, Muhammad Farooq of FATA scored a century against Larkana. Muhammad Sarwar scored a half-century.

In Karachi, Imran Rafiq of Multan was dismissed for 92 runs in the first innings against Rawalpindi. Arafat Minhas also failed to complete his century and was dismissed for 90 runs. Lahore, 13 September 2025: The day three of the third round of Hanif Mohammad Trophy witnessed riveting action as one Group A game ended up tied in Bahawalpur, while two other games – at Multan Cricket Stadium and UBL Sports Complex in Karachi – saw follow-ons being inflicted on Rawalpindi and Karachi Whites.

Group A

At the Dring Stadium in Bahawalpur, the Lahore Blues and Azad Jammu and Kashmir fixture ended in a rare stalemate on day three as AJK – chasing a target of 215 – were bowled out for 214 in 66 overs with the last pair managing to add 27 runs – from being 132-7 and 187-9 at one point.

Both teams aggregated 383 runs each in their two batting innings as all 40 wickets fell inside three days.

For Lahore Blues – who had overcome a 98-run first innings deficit - Qasim Akram led the match-saving effort with a haul of 4-54 in 22 overs, while he was supported by Mohammad Waheed (2-10) and Hunain Shah (2-24). Sajjad Khan and Nisar Ahmed dismissed a batter each.

Earlier, Lahore Blues only added 69 runs to their overnight score of 243-6 as they were bowled out for 312 in 90.1 overs, setting AJK a target of 215 to win. Umar Siddiq’s unbeaten overnight century outing finished on 161 off 270 balls having hit 16 fours.

For AJK, Jawad Imtiaz picked up 5-58 in 17 overs, while Aqib Liaqat and Faizan Saleem dismissed two batters each.

Faisalabad inflicted follow-on on Karachi Whites, who were dismissed for a paltry 140 in 41 overs after resuming from overnight score of 127-7. Whites were in a 247-run deficit after the completion of their first innings at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

In turn, Whites were helped to a meagre 37-run second innings lead with just three wickets in hand as they finished the day with 210-7 on the board in 73.4 overs. Mohammad Taha (60, 96b, 4x4s, 3x6s) and Mohammad Usman Rahim (50 not out, 135b, 4x4s) contributed half-centuries to Whites’ total.

Hyderabad lead by 364 runs against Quetta in the second innings as they finished the day three with 170-7 in 34 overs at the Abbasia Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan. First innings double-centurion Mohammad Suleman chipped in with a 60-ball 68 hitting 12 fours.

Earlier, Quetta’s skipper Abdul Wahid Bangalzai led from front with a century (121, 237b, 18x4s) to help his team extend the overnight 137-5 in 41.2 overs to 286 all out in 89 overs as they conceded a 194-run deficit.

Mohammad Ibrahim – who earlier bagged a five-for – chipped in with a 112-ball 50 striking seven fours in a 102-run stand for the sixth wicket with Bangalzai.

Rawalpindi replied to Multan’s follow-on call at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi with 168-2 in 39 overs as they were still 80 runs behind at stumps on day three.

Earlier, Faisal Akram – who picked his second five-for of the tournament – bagged 7-41 in 15.2 overs to help his team fold Rawalpindi for a meagre 108 in 40.2 overs – who conceded a 248-run deficit - with only Mubasir Khan (38, 56b, 6x4s) crossing 20-run mark for his team.

Multan declared their first innings 356-7 in 119.1 overs after the 176-run sixth-wicket stand between Imran Rafiq (92, 240b, 9x4s) and Arafat Minhas (90, 182b, 7x4s, 2x6s) came to an end. Mubasir Khan picked four wickets for Rawalpindi.

DM Jamali trailed by 213 runs in their second innings as they finished the day eight for none in six overs against Karachi Blues at the National Bank Stadium.

Saud Shakeel-led Blues – after dismissing DM Jamali for 180 in first innings – went berserk posting 401-8 declared in 76.1 overs as Usman Khan struck a century (139, 112b, 20x4s, 2x6s), while Omair Bin Yousuf (95, 115b, 10x4s, 2x6s) and Rameez Aziz (79 not out, 83b, 4x4s, 3x6s) hit half-centuries.

Earlier, DM Jamali could only add 34 runs to their overnight score of 146-7 as they were bowled out for 180 in 52.1 overs. Karachi Blues’ Fahad Amin (4-37), Saqib Khan (3-51), Muhammad Umar (3-52) accounted for 10 wickets.

FATA lead by 82 runs against Larkana as they finished the day three with 279-5 on the board courtesy opening batter Mohammad Farooq’s century (132, 122b, 2x4s, 12x6s) at the SBP Sports Complex, Karachi.

Earlier, FATA’s pace duo of Akif Javed (4-32) and Sameen Gul (4-47) accounted for eight wickets combined to put an end to Larkana’s first innings on 197 all out in 73.1 overs after they began from overnight score of 99-4 in 50 overs.

Asif Afridi took the other two wickets, while Larkana’s Ghulam Raza (68, 83b, 6x4s, 4x6s) and Mohsin Raza (51, 160b, 4x4s) struck half-centuries.

– The fourth and final day of the third round of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy Grade-II cricket tournament concluded with several decisive results.
In Multan, Faisalabad defeated Karachi Whites by 7 wickets, successfully chasing the target of 54 runs for the loss of three wickets. Faisalabad’s Shehzad Gul claimed eight wickets in the match.

In Karachi, Multan outplayed Rawalpindi by 9 wickets, chasing down a 49-run target with one wicket down. Faisal Akram produced a brilliant bowling performance, taking 7 wickets in the first innings and 5 in the second, finishing with 12 wickets for 149 runs overall.

In Rahim Yar Khan, the Quetta vs Hyderabad match ended in a draw. Abdul Wahid Bangalzai scored 76 runs in Quetta’s second innings.

In Karachi, Karachi Blues thrashed Dera Murad Jamali by 10 wickets.

Lahore, 14 September 2025: The round three of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy came to an end as Faisalabad, Multan, Karachi Blues and FATA bagged victories while Hyderabad and Quetta fixture ended in draw.

Group A

Faisalabad reaped a seven-wicket victory over Karachi Whites as they chased down the 54-run target in 6.4 overs at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Karachi Whites – who were made to follow-on after scoring 140 in first innings in reply to Faisalabad’s 387 - fell for 300 all out in 87.2 overs in their second dig after resuming from overnight score of 210-7. Faisalabad’s Shehzad Gul and Asad Raza picked up four wickets each.

Hyderabad’s fixture against Quetta ended in a stalemate at the Abbasia Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan. In pursuit of the 386-run target, Quetta were 272-7 in 86.4 overs when both the teams ran out of time.

For Quetta, Abdul Wahid Bangalzai (76, 164b, 11x4s, 1x6) and Kamran Khan (54, 113b, 9x4s, 1x6) struck half-centuries, while Quetta slid to 186-5 at one point.

Earlier, Hyderabad declared their second innings at 191-7 in 35 overs after resuming from overnight score of 170-7.

Multan beat Rawalpindi by nine wickets as they chased down the 49-run target in 8.5 overs at the UBL Sports Complex, Karachi. Following on – with a deficit of 28 runs - Rawalpindi were dismissed for 296 in 81.5 overs after resuming from overnight score of 168-2. Rawalpindi’s Affan Ishaq remained unbeaten for 100 off 207 balls hitting 10 fours.

For Multan, Faisal Akram backed up his first innings haul of 7-41 with figures of 5-108 in 19 overs to help his team bag a crucial win. Ali Usman and Mohammad Ismail picked up two wickets each.

FATA beat Larkana by an innings and 96 runs as skipper Asif Afridi’s figures of 16.1-10-26-6 stood out. Larkana were bowled out for 127 in their second innings after FATA had taken a 223-run first innings lead. Earlier, FATA resumed their first innings from overnight score of 279-5 in 65 overs and were bowled for 420 in 85.4 overs.

Larkana’s Zahid Mehmood picked up 6-105 in 29.4 overs.

Karachi Blues beat Dera Murad Jamali by 10 wickets as they chased the nine-run target on day four at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi. Dera Murad Jamali’s second innings folded for 229 in 100.1 overs after being in a 221-run first innings deficit.

DM Jamali’s Nasir Khan struck a century (113, 294b, 11x4s0 in vain, while Blues’ Saqib Khan, Fahad Amin and Mohammad Asghar picked up three wickets each.

Quetta’s Haseebullah struck a 102 off 223 balls with the help of 17 fours and one six as his team were bowled out for 187 in 72.1 overs by Faisalabad at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Haseebullah walked in to bat at 9-1 and put up a 51-run stand with Bismillah Khan (44, 63b, 8x4s) before Quetta slid to 95-4 and then 187 all out. For Faisalabad, Ahmed Safi Abdullah and Mudasir Zunair dismissed three batters each.

Lahore Blues were bowled out for 297 in 82 overs against Karachi Whites at the Dring Stadium in Bahawalpur. Mohammad Mohsin (95, 127b, 9x4s, 3x6s) and Umar Siddiq (94, 151b, 12x4s) struck half-centuries for their team and also stitched a 151-run stand for the fourth wicket after coming together at 71-3.

For Karachi Whites, Aftab Khan and Rehman Ghani picked up three wickets each. In turn, Whites were five for no loss in two overs at the close of play.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir finished the opening day with 294-5 in 90 overs against Hyderabad at the Abbasia Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan. AJK were helped to a formidable score with the help of half-centuries from skipper Hasan Raza (83, 93b, 15x4s) and Awais Akram Minhas (61 not out, 123b, 7x4s).

At the SBP Sports Complex, Karachi Blues managed to score 140-4 in 30.5 overs on a rain-hit day. Blues’ skipper Saud Shakeel struck a 60-ball 54 with the help of eight fours.

Only 14.2 overs were possible at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi in which Dera Murad Jamali fetched 28 runs and lost two wickets early as Mohammad Faizan struck twice on regular intervals. Aqib Junaid (14 not out, 40b, 1x4) and Taimur Ali (8 not out, 26b) made sure no more wickets fell for DM Jamali before rain brought an end to the day.

FATA scored 132-3 in 44.2 overs against Multan at the UBL Sports Complex, Karachi as the opening day was cut short due to rain. FATA’s Mohammad Usman struck a half-century (50, 96b, 8x4s) and stitched a 52-run stand for the third wicket with Mohammad Wasim Khan (39 not out, 85b, 4x4s). Multan’s Ali Usman picked up two wickets.

Karachi: Karachi Blues’ Rameez Aziz scored 150 runs against Larkana with the help of 9 sixes and 9 fours.
Larkana were bowled out for 81 in their first innings. Fahad Amin claimed three wickets.

Karachi: FATA’s Mohammad Usman, Shahid Aziz, and Waseem Khan hit fifties against Multan. Ali Usman took 7 wickets for 56 runs.

* Javed Ali Bhatti of Hyderabad took 6 wickets for 83 runs against Faisalabad.
* Mohammad Taha of Karachi Whites scored an unbeaten 91 runs against Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Saad Baig added 85 runs.
* Umar Siddiq of Lahore Blues made 130 runs against Quetta. Imran Butt scored 69, Mohammad Saleem 60, and Khawaja Abdullah 50 runs.
* Rehan Afridi of FATA scored an unbeaten 68 runs against Dera Murad Jamali. Mohammad Tauqeer and Mohammad Sarwar were out for 68 and 57 runs, respectively.

Third day of the fifth round of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy Grade Two cricket tournament.

FATA defeated Dera Murad Jamali by an innings and 37 runs. Asif Afridi took 4 wickets, dismissing 8 players in the match.

Karachi Blues beat Rawalpindi by 9 wickets. Mohammad Asghar took 8 wickets for 117 runs, with 14 players dismissed in the match. Rawalpindi’s second innings saw Abdul Faseeh score 91 and Mubassir Khan 88 not out.

Quetta’s Bismillah Khan scored a brilliant triple century against Lahore Blues, making 319 runs with 36 fours and 9 sixes. Mohammad Javed remained not out at 85. Sajjad Khan took 5 wickets. Lahore Blues’ second innings saw Imran Butt score 77 not out.

Against Hyderabad, Faisalabad’s Asim Ali Nasir scored 129 and Faham-ul-Haq 100 runs. Jawad Ali Bhatti took 5 wickets, with 11 players dismissed in the match.
