What's new

Harbhajan Singh - most undeserving bowler ever to have taken 300+ Test wickets?

Right, and just remind me how many times Australia have toured Pakistan recently?

We are talking about fast bowelrs, no? So it will be better overseas, no? 9-0 rings a bell?

You're the one quoting an Indian home series, when Pakistan haven't played Australia at home for a long, long time. How can that possibly be a fair comparison?

So it will be better overseas, no? 9-0 rings a bell?

9-0 isn't an argument over fast bowling, that's an argument regarding a team as a whole. What does ring a bell are 5 wicket hauls from Akram, Akhtar, Amir and a 6 wicket haul from Asif. Pakistani fast bowlers have always performed against Australia.

Even on the occasion where Pakistan played Australia in a neutral venue on flat SL wickets, Akhtar took 5 there too.

Don't really see your argument stacking up tbh.

He has the worst average in 300+ club with Brett Lee a close second. Dunno about least deserving but certainly the mediocre of the lot.

If he is undeserving so will be wasim akram both of them have very similar stats

Umpires please put India fans out their misery and report this man for chucking so we can finally get rid of him from the Indian team.

Please don't embarrass us Indian fans on PP. I know I've done it plenty of times, but I wouldn't want you to do the same. That's like like saying Don Bradman and Sourav Ganguly have almost similar records, in fact Ganguly has a better record since he scored more Test runs than Bradman.

Harbhajan Singh is the only Indian player to put his name forth for the inaugural season of The Hundred, which starts in July 2020. Harbhajan, who plays for Chennai Super Kings in Indian Premier League, has put his base price at £100,000.

Despite the success of the IPL, Indian male cricketers are not allowed to play T20 league cricket outside the country. Harbhajan Singh, who last represented India in Asia Cup 2016, has not retired from international cricket and this will be a hindrance for him if he wants to feature in The Hundred. Recently Yuvraj Singh had taken part in the Global Canada Twenty20, but that was possible only because the allrounder had retired.

The Hundred is the title of a professional 100-ball cricket tournament in England and Wales run by the ECB commencing in July 2020. The league will consist of eight city-based franchise teams, each of which will field both a men’s and women’s team.

England’s Ben Stokes will play for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, with the Leeds-based franchise snapping up all-rounder ahead of Yorkshire pair Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow in the opening player picks for next year’s new competition.

The new 100-ball format tournament was launched on Thursday, with eight new city-based teams officially named and the first batch of players allocated, including England’s red-ball contracted players.

England’s test captain Root will play for Nottingham-based Trent Rockets, while Bairstow was picked up by Welsh Fire in Cardiff.

England fast bowler Jofra Archer will represent Southampton-based Southern Brave, while Sam Curran joins his brother Tom at Oval Invincibles. England's leading test wicket-taker James Anderson and Broad were not chosen

Undeserving people do not take 400 test wickets.

His stats were ruined by playing a lot against Pakistan on some very flat pitches. Those pitches ended careers of spinners

Harbhajan was a very good bowler for India who also had his moments overseas unlike our modern day spin legend who is yet to take a single 5-fer in SENA.

Overall for a country with so many spin greats, he is probably not even in top 4-5 Indian spin bowlers.

Top 5 ?? Kumble will be one, maybe Ashwin and rest?

Harbhajan performed great vs Aus, GOAT series performance in 2001 series so I rank him, probably unreasonably, highly. I'd rate Lee the worst, batsmen saw they could score some runs off him as opposed to Warne, McGrath Gillespie so he got cheap wickets. Didn't have the tools to succeed. Akhtar way, way better than him.

View Lee as a good ODI bowler, but that is not what we are talking about

Anyone who says Harbhajan had a clean action doesn't have a single honest bone in his body. Take out his chucking and he was a Sehwag or Yuvraj level spinner. Greatest from India will always be the legend Bedi followed by Chandra, Gupte and then only Kumble.

Kumble has to be no.1 for me, 600+ test wickets and being India's no.1 bowler for across two decades in tests is not a joke. He did very well against greatest Australian lineup in Australia in 2003/04 tour and that counts big.

No.2 is close between Chandra and Bedi, Chandra won India an away series in England and was probably the best leg spinner for India overseas. Bedi was more dominant in home and did decent away.

Then you have Subash Gupte, who is considered the most skillful Indian spinner and probably the best of all by many but not sure where to rate him. So, that's four names.

Harbhajan is probably 5th, then Jaddu, then Prasanna and so on.

Ishant and Southee are joining sooner. Morkel was not so good in tests either.

That is his only achievement.
He has 4 performances amongst the top 100 wisden bowling performances(highest for any bowler).
Taking 400 wickets is not a joke and yeah if someone doesn't have any problem with muralis action than there should be no problem with harbhajan too.

Both of them would be at the top. Ishant played alot of tests when he wasn't great as India didn't have fast bowlers. Now he's actually good

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh on Friday became the second high-profile Chennai Super Kings cricketer after batsman Suresh Raina to pull out of IPL 2020 in UAE due to personal reasons. While the veteran off-spinner clearly stated that he wanted to stay with his family in this ‘difficult’ time and the CSK team-management have been very supportive towards his decision, there were speculations that the 13 personnel, including two cricketers testing positive for Covid-19, might have had a role in it.

However, a friend of Harbhajan clarified that it was purely personal and the situation in Dubai had no influence in the off-spinner’s decision to opt out of IPL. A source close to Harbhajan said that it would be “absurd” to attribute the decision to 13 Covid-19 cases in CSK camp.

“It wasn’t about the Covid cases in the Chennai camp. But if you have a wife and toddler staying in India for three months, your mind will be diverted and you can’t fully focus on the game. Then it doesn’t matter whether you get two crore or 20 crore. Money is last on your mind,” a friend of the player told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

“I will not be playing IPL this year due to personal reasons. These are difficult times and I would expect some privacy as I spend time with my family. CSK management has been extremely supportive and I wish them a great IPL Stay safe and Jai Hind,” Harbhajan tweeted.

Harbhajan said that he was indebted to the CSK management for understanding his priorities. “When I told the CSK management about my decision, they were very supportive and I can’t thank them enough for that,” the off-spinner said.

Harbhajan, who is the third-highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL with 150 scalps, was roped in by CSK ahead of IPL 2018 for his base price of INR 2 crore. CSK now have three front-line spinners - leg-spinner Imran Tahir, left-armer Mitchell Santner and seasoned leg-break bowler Piyush Chawla, who was bought for a hefty sum.
