There is no direct comparison between them, Haris Sohail is light years ahead of these oldies.

Haris Sohail is one of our best batsman and should be a permanent starter at Number 4 position, he is playing better than Babar these days, which says alot.

Mohammad Hafeez although has never been a consistent batsman, has some utility with his brains and bowling. Not to mention that he has the ability to up the tempo in the last few overs, lacking in most of our batsmen, still he should only replace Imad in the current XI and not anyone from the Top 6.

Shoaib Malik is terrible in every department, except for maybe his fielding. Should be booted out as soon as possible from the 17, and if not then should remain on the bench throughout the tournament.

Team combination should be:

1) Fakhar Zaman
2) Imam Ul Haq
3) Babar Azam
4) Haris Sohail
5) Sarfraz Ahmed(C)(Wk)
6) Mohammad Hafeez
7) Asif Ali
8) Shadab Khan
9) Mohammad Amir
10) Hasan Ali
11) Shaheen Afridi

Perfect but doubt that hafeez will play at no 6

I am not sure what sort of form would Hafeez be in after such a long layoff but he is better fit at #4 than Haris who is essentially a top 3 batsman.

Sure, if we need our #4 coming out in the first 10 overs, then Haris is light years ahead of Hafeez but somehow I doubt that would be the case too often in this World Cup. Starting the innings in the 20-25th over, I would back Hafeez to do a better job than Haris getting after the spinners and keeping the tempo of the innings going.

This is Perfect. Malik can replace anyone who fails consistently .

Between overs 0 and 35 Haris Should be locked in at number 4.
If the third wicket falls after over 35 then Hafeez should come in at 4.

Haris is several notches above Malik when it comes to batting but several levels below Malik when it comes to fielding and my biggest concern at the moment is our fielding.

Y not both in lineup hafeez at 6 or 4 whenever we lose early wickets haris comes in and whenever we click hafeez asif imad come ahead of haris sarfraz

He takes good catches but his ground feilding needs to improve

U r perfectly right malik should be shown the door and ideally haris/hafeez should bat at 4 or 5 according to situation

This is going to be an unpopular opinion but having watched the last 2 ODIs I have full conviction with my views here.

I would say Haris in isolation, HOWEVER in these conditions only Hafeez can score heavily at a very healthy strike rate, as exhibited by him in the CT final and his ODI stats this year, averaging 49.67 at a SR of 101.36. Lets not forget that all of these games were against a quality SA bowling attack in their back yard. Haris' stats are also very good and his average is higher at 60 but his strike rate sub-90. With pitches served up of late and projected in the WC, I would rather have the batsman with a c.15% higher SR albeit with a c.15% lower average.

I don't think Haris is capable of batting a little more than run a ball even though he's technically the most sound batsman in the side because like Babar he's a bit meek and lacks that ruthless streak in him. On that note, I feel Pakistan have one too many accumulators in the top 4 of this batting line-up when you consider the average score in this WC may lie around 400 in this WC.

I couldn't agree more and given the projected totals may go well-beyond 350, Hafeez is better than Haris because he can score heavily at a healthier strike rate.

In the top 4 I think the team has one too many accumulators. In these conditions I don't think we can afford to have Imam, Babar and Haris in the top 4. The latter two should fight for the number 3 squad and 9 times out of 10 Babar will get the nod because he has played double the number of ODIs.

This is the line up I would like too but sarfaraz would have to be smart and sneak in overs of Harris hafeez and fakhar before it’s too late

Harris is embarassment
Puts team under pressure .Malik back surely

Name: Batting Bowling Fielding

Harris : 7 4 6

Malik: 4 4 8

Hafeez : 6 6 6

Harris = 17
Malik = 16
Hafeez= 18

Haris will definitely play in the remaining games, but time is running out for him and he has to make it count when it matters. Had he performed against West Indies instead of lazily throwing his wicket away, he would still be in the team. Look at KL Rahul. He was made to open the innings in Dhawan's absence, and he made it count immediately with a very resilient innings under pressure.

KL Rahul won’t be dropped for some incompetent senior even if he had failed

That’s the difference between Pakistan and India team management

He has been regularly dropped from the playing XI for not performing. India have not given him preferential treatment, but he took his opportunity yesterday unlike Haris against West Indies.

I am not talking about past. Even if Rahul scored a duck he would have played next match. India or any good teams don’t drop players for one odd failure. Honestly speaking even Rahul’s innings today was a below average innings

Secondly Haris didn’t fail in lots of matches he has his weaknesses with respect to strike rate but there is no comparison between him and Malik as batsman.

seniority preference culture is one of biggest reasons of where Pakistan cricket presently stands.

There's hardly any seniors anymore. Sarfraz is captain and even then strange to think it he's only been a regular in the side since 2015, 4 years.

Hafeez is getting on, but probably deserved his place and played a part of a win in England.

Really it's just one player in Malik. Who is playing down to seniority.

You just have to look at Hafeez and realise why these seniors are still knocking around. We need players who can play a proper ODI game, dig in and accelerate. We have very few players who can do that, which is why these seniors even though they are past it hang around, others haven't been good enough to push them out of the team.

What's brought us down is continual poor fielding (which is partly down to fitness). And keep on playing guys who are not suited to ODIs, they can not play shots or they are sloggers who can't defend and play themselves in.

Hafeez’s place was never in question, issue with him was that he was adamant to bat at 4, therefore putting unnecessary pressure for spot on Haris. Malik on the other hand was just selected because he’s a senior

This culture lives on manifesting itself in sarfraz’s recent quote that these two are back backbones

Pretty much on the money. Haris is much the superior batsman, but he has a couple of issues. Firstly his success has mostly been laying a base, he never seems to be able to accelerate or finish a game once he has got past the early overs. Secondly he has looked overweight, and didn't help his cause when he got out in such a soft and pathetic manner against the Windies. Hopefully when he's brought back for the remaining games he can show some spirit.

Harris = Malik + hafeez in weight
Harris = good batsman who seems destined to be a liability in field and target of weight driven injuries
Malik = complete waste of space theses days
Hafeez = will perform exactly once every five game, and ppl will justify his selection by saying he is better than Malik.

Question - in 15 years of cricket, has star batsman Hafeez ever played an innings that made everyone stand and applaud like this knock from Harris Sohail?

Even if he has, you can guarantee a string of failures afterwards.

Haris makes runs more often than not. THAT is the sign of a proper batsman :genius

But who needs proper batsmen when you have years of experience and social media stardom?

All three are in 30's...

I doubt haris fitness. Dont go gaga over him. He might bring short term happiness but not long term.. ( my view.. It might go wrong too)

Commentators including Akram and Rameez were telling this young man.. Lol.. Checked his age..

And again if it wasn’t for this insistence of selecting mediocre seniors for their experience that never counts for anything when it’s most needed, proper and gutsy batsmen like Harris Sohail and Fawad Alam could have been regulars in the ODI team For last 7-8 years.

Haris made ODI debut in 2013 and played only 35 matches till now.
