Has Malala Yousafzai done harm or good for Pakistan's reputation?

Lot of opinions in Pakistan - some are vehemently against her and some pro.

What was done to her harmed Pakistan's reputation and rightfully so. More than that, the way the people of Pakistan reacted to her ordeal hurt Pakistan's reputation and on that, Pakistan deserved to have its name dragged through the mud all over the world. The reaction was disgraceful and completely unwarranted.

She didn't do harm to Pakistan's reputation, what happened to her obviously did. The Malala shooting and the ongoing publicity surrounding it damaged the country's image very badly.

I don't mind her getting full media attention my only issue is there are some who are comparing her with Jinnah and Mandela. What's her contribution to be called Pakistani Mandela or comparing her with Jinnah? Thats what some of the liberals are doing, her name shouldn't be in the same line with Mandela or Jinnah. Let's not forget we lost countless kids, girls including those of APS who are still living here and brave sons of this soil like Aitzaz if you really want to start these comparisons based on that.

It's difficult.

At one hand she has done well by showing the world a strong character from Pakistan on the other hand any foreign person who has heard about the story has this image in their head where girls in Pakistan don't go to school at all or would otherwise risk getting shot in the head.

If one were to just look at the whole Taliban issue in FATA objectively, one would notice that the local tribal "Malaks" who stood against Taliban and their ideology had to suffer a lot more hardship and difficulties than Malala ever did. The issues and social dynamics they had to deal with is far too complex to describe. At one hand they had to stop and oppose the ideology of Taliban while at the other hand they had to explain to the local population why the drones are hovering over them and bomb whatever they feel like bombing. The local population which is already so isolated from rest of the Pakistan let alone world is far too enthusiastic when it comes to Islam and Pashtun traditions. The two fundaments Taliban misuse and misrepresent to gain support and popularity. The local "Malaks" had to risk being labeled as "murtad", friends of Americans, disrespecting Pashtun traditions and lose local support. Even I as a non-pashtun can see with what complex dilemmas they were faced with.

They had their houses burnt down, their whole family threatened, kidnapped and killed while dealing with the daily threat of suicide bombings. However it seems none of their sacrifices is worth of praise or even mention. If you think the pak army was able to successfully get rid of insurgency in FATA without the help and sacrifices of these local "Malaks" then you are gravely mistaken and need a better understanding of the events.

Hence why looking at the bigger picture I don't regard Malala and the hero she is painted to be as all to favourably. Her story not just misrepresents the situation completely wrong but also takes away the attention from the true heros and victims of Taliban insurgency in FATA and swat. When I think of her I can not help but notice the hypocrisy and bias of the free, tolerant and civilized world. Which is far too keen to highlight the miseries and oppression of women in Muslim world and never seem to miss out on such stories when in reality the situation is far more complex and a whole group of people suffer far greater oppression and hardships.

There are always going to be people with negative opinion and voice to discredit her. It happen all over the world, even in the tech advanced country like US, elected Trump.

There are kids from the most recent USA school shooting (florida douglas HS) who are being called actors by the right wing - mentally ill people. So I'm not surprised right wing nuts in Pakistan take shots at Malala too because they have nothing better to do than complain about everything.

I believe she is very intelligent and she carries her self well, she has interviewed with best of the best with great confidence and that is no easy feat. She should be an inspiration to girls all across Pakistan and should not be demonized.

Don’t really care about the reputation, the actual results on the ground matter more than what some people around the world think about Pakistan. Some countries with similar attitude towards women and similar education standards might have better reputation because there is less focus on them. So from that point of she has been good for the country as she raised awareness about the issues women face in certain areas of Pakistan. Malala fund has also helped fund the education of many people around the world including Pakistan and built schools so that’s great too. Overall she is a positive personality, haters should focus on more important things.

False.She was shot in the face.From the WW II till now, there are thousands of cases in which people who were shot in the head/face survived. This is not the first one.

The fact of the matter is her assassination attempt only highlighted what many in the western world already knew about Pakistan - a 3rd world backwards country that plagued by extremism and refuses to give women equal rights.

However, her courage and bravery in promoting social work in women's rights and education must be admired.
