Apologies but I cannot help thinking that by taking an award ceremony which is meant to be enjoyed by the people of Pakistan and handing it to sponsors, the PCB has committed a huge blunder.

From what I understand, the ceremony was invitation only and the broadcast was not even live.

Not even PCB's own media department were allowed to publish material about this ceremony and the national broadcaster was also kept out.

Is the new way forward?

Maybe it is - but I am old-fashioned and I feel that PCB's employees ie players should be accessible to all of us and not limited to a few who can pay.

I am afraid if we are not careful, we could see the PCB employees wearing sponsor logos in the near future.

Your views?

I'm assuming you are referencing privatisation? Could that be such a bad thing?

Pakistan is the fourth in the whole big three entity, thefore taking forecasts and basic economics, Pakistan is a star on the Boston matrix with potential of becoming a problem child.

I could see privatisation as the veg thing to happen since the forming of a controlling entity in 1952.

We could see stadium rights sold of to companies like emirates, who could modernise our stadiums and bring them on par with the rest of the world. Such companies have investments and ties with other major multinational companies and we could see huge modern malls and hotels around the stadium for tourists. Influx that benefits the whole country and the PCB.

We would also have the injected capital to finally invest in our domestic scene and focus on finding the future of Pakistan cricket.

Also we could finally see the board members appointed on merit opposed to the government installing who they please.

Personally privatisation of PCB would be a huge step forward and would take Pakistan cricket to a whole new level.

Of course this is a hypothesis and is just a theory at the end of the day, personally I think PCB is becoming more stable and healthy and for once I believe we are looking towards growth and prosperity.

Let's thank Sethi, Mickey Aurther, Inzi, and Misbah for steering the ship into prosperity.

Now from the cricket stand point we need to carry on playing modern cricket, adapting and stacking situations Head on.

All eyes on Sarfraz and Co for now.

PCB blocks local media access to annual awards

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board deprived the national print and electronic media of its right to cover the PCB annual awards for 2016-17 by selling out its broadcasting rights to a private TV channel.

The function was held to honour the country’s leading players and officials and therefore deserved coverage by all media organistations in Pakistan. But the PCB, which is set to bear a financial loss of over a million rupees by organising the on-going Independence Cup in the name of projecting a soft-image of the country to the world, struck a major blow to the very image by not allowing access to the local media to the prestigious annual awards function.

The event also brought disappointment for the PCB whose invitations were turned down by former captains Shahid Afridi and Younis Khan.

Only Misbah-ul-Haq reached the venue to receive his award.

Afridi and Younis preferred to stay away from the big bash, losing out on a Rs. 10 million award each which they were supposed to receive in the event.

Agencies add: The media box erected at the Gaddafi Stadium by the PCB specially for the World XI games have become a ‘guest lounge’ for the friends and families of PCB officials. A number of journalists and media representatives complained of lack of working space in the media box occupied by dozens of unknown people who were later identified as guests and friends of the board officials.

Shame on PCB. Should have made it accessible to media, at least we would have witnessed a well-rounded (and live) coverage of first ever award function by PCB.

The channel's name on the award function's name should have been sufficient as sponsorship.

I don't disagree with this at all.

However, imagine in England if the SPOTY award was done in closed doors and for people who have paid you.

Some sort of private party where instead of the nation rejoicing together, there are a few who can do this

I don't object to it.

Journalism, unfortunately, has become one of the most exploitative and unscrupulous professions in Pakistan and I don't disapprove keeping players away from media.
