Why are they called Victorians lol, I don't get it. Are they stuck in the past?

Good signings.

Mathews Munro Nabi playing too

Don't see Imran and Fahim playing too Much.

Ironically their facebook and twitter is all in Bangla, not a word of English :)

Good signings yes.

will Pakistan let our players play in Bangladesh after what;s happened between the two ie cancelling our tour of Baangladesh

One of the main historical attraction of Comilla town is the old Victoria College & Victoria memorial - probably very few monuments of Victorian age still existing in BD. They have few more things associated with Queen's name there (war cemetery probably, rail station, not sure). I think, the name is quite nice for the town - it's not that Gladiators used to live in Quetta or the FB page of QG is written in Roman.

thanks for clearing that up. Makes sense now.

I don't think Gladiators is a suitable example to compare, gladiators is being used as the term meaning fighters/warriors, not a reference to the Romans. And I don't really care whether they have written in English or Bengali on their fb page, their choice, in fact Bengali is better as their fans will mostly speak that as their 1st language

I understand the reason now, but still think it's a bit strange. I wouldn't be too comfortable with the name given it refers to the Queen Victoria that invaded the indian subcontinent and didn't have the Indian subcontinent's best interests in mind largely. The word Victorian denotes a subject of Queen Victoria. Yet I get that via invading they brought new technology that ultimately helps Bangladesh today but still I don't like the name. I'm a bit anti-monarchy tbh anyway so maybe I'm biased.

Is Hasan Ali not planning on playing in South Africa's T20 Global League? I thought the owners of PZ bought one of the franchises. @Saj

I highly doubt if Hassan or Malik are selected in South africa T20 global league that they are gonna play in BPL

will global league pay enough, don't think so!

They will pay peanuts compare to BPL. In the first BPL 2012, Afridi had 500k-650k for some few game, I remember. Gayle went big amount. Only IPL on average pays more than BPL!

Does it actually pay ..... or is it just a promise note?

Cricinfo stated last year the maximum salary for top tier foreign players was $70,000...

Paisa bolta hai mere dost!

True, but if they were to look at it from the perspective of their future (especially Hasan Ali as he is young), it would help them a lot more as conditions will be different (as Bangladesh and Pakistan have similar conditions) and it's a good learning curve before an international tour.

Oh come on! thats over exaggerated!

They don't even come up with the pay scales during the drafts...many times they talk to the players personally and settle things.

Global league is in south africa so was bit curious

That's for players picked in the draft.

Players bought outside the draft are paid significantly higher. For example even Bopara was paid 150k for his services in BPL 2015

I think the auction of BPL 1 was misleading. Players didn't get the payment completely.

However after the BPL reboot all teams have been regular with their payment. Infact no payment issues has been raised to my opinion. Infact BPL teams have to pay BCB up front so if they don't pay the players BCB plays on their behalf.

So salaries have been dropping?

It has, what happened year before last, needed some reconciliation in the salary aspect. Good thing is, even for much lower salary price they keep coming. This year some big name T20 players already signed up and still 5months left. that's because BPL is a brand will only be going upwards as BD cricket market grows bigger with time!

Payment of the first edition has been paid off. Otherwise the way the ever active Afridi is on social media, I'm sure he would've exposed it, if he hadn't been paid the full. Like with Gayle. Even though some payments took time. It was all too early and soon, all of a suddenvig amounts being dishes out with bad properly organising/planning with poor professional, which was the root cause of the issues/corruption initially.

Don't see Imran and Fahim playing too Much.

You will also not see Hasan and Malik playing too much, Pakistan will be having the limited over face of the tour against Sri Lanka, when BPL starts and they are fixed starters in the LOI lineup.

I don't know about the past but right now PSL's top tier players are paid not only more than the BPL but other awards like the winners cash amounts are second only to IPL. PSL has 5 icon players who are paid $200,000 and then the next amount is between $70,000-$140,000. Easily double and triple last year's BPL salaries.

And all this is us not even holding the PSL in Pakistan.

Why have salaries dropped? Considering how mad the people are after cricket it should be full houses, more sponsors especially now your team is performing extremely well! I hope your board is not leeching money like our snakes at the PCB :))

All the Pakistani players should avoid #BPL since it has quiet a dodgy past, and currently 2 pakistani's name have surfaced in relation of match fixing in BPL2013.
even last year it was ALLEGED that Imad Wasim was approached by a bookie.

When a league can't give proper security against bookies it better to avoid the league as many talented Pakistani player have fallen prey to these flight bookies...
Its better to loose some dollors than to put their career on the line for ever...

No more Amir, Asif, Butt.
No more Sharjeel, Khalid.

They are not going to play every match. Faheem will play for sure.

Last time Asghar played for a team with few international stars was discarded after a match or two despite decent performance.

Hassan Malik Rashid Khan Nabi Mathews Munro are all quality going to be tough for the lad tbh but good luck to him if he gets a chance.

This happens too much in BPL, why's that so?

It happens everywhere more so in BPL because every team has 7-8 foreign players in the dugout, sometimes even more. It's likely that a young cricketer will the one to recieve the axe after one or two games when the team is trying to experiment.

Doesn't happen in cpl or BBL because they barely pick enough to fill their quota. In IPL these players don't even get a chance. PSL has limited teams and matches so foreign quota is limited. BPL has mixture of veterans and rookies. That's why a lot of players end up being benched but they don't mind because they are paid good money and enjoy facilities. However there are valid reasons for picking so many players.

The matches are done and dusted within a month so players are prone to fatigue and injury. Also because BPL is held in November Which is why some players might be unavailable due to international commitment at a certain part of the tourney.

Good signings yes.

we did not get it in 1971 either how important the language is to them and thought it was damn politicians who were corrupt- we never learn unfortunately :(

Mathews is overrated. Fahim>Mathews
Young blood

Mathews is a world class cricketer. He has good average in all formats of the game as a batsman.

Fahim has played only a single ODI till date and unproven.

@ Executioner when iz BPL gonna start....
malik, hassan and fahim all will be travelling to Srilanka in November... i heard some BPL team has also signed SARFI... how iz he gonna play... he will be in Srilanka from OCT to DEC...
Also PCB has officially made it clear that they wont give NOC's to players to play in foriegn leagues if the leagues are scheduled during the DOMESTIC season in the country. INZI also confirmed it during an interview on tv sometime back... and i think the domestic season in pakistan starts in NOV... so basically no player will play in BPL...

I think those players will be playing only a small portion of the matches.

And regarding NOCs. I don't think PCB can stop the players because the players will seek compensation. And it would be better for young cricketers to play in BPL. Coaches like Tom Moody Jayawardene are involved with teams and they get to play high octane games with and against decent cricketers.

Obviously if it is regarding assets like Hassan Ali I will understand. But not all.

for a second i thought the comilla victorians was a BBL team now that would have been really cool.

The fact teams can now field up to five foreigners makes this discussion somewhat academic. Fahim will definitely play. Tbh I am surprised the BPL are allowing that many foreigners in the starting xi- less likely to develop local talent.

Yes rubbish decision.

Fans don't care about quality that much. Fans want entertainment and you will be entertained more if you see a local player taking control or if some quality foreign players are on show.

No offense to Fahim Ashraf. Say he plays plenty of matches but no one will go to the stadium to watch him play. Malik Rashid Khan Mathews now that's a different thing.

Reality is a lot of mediocre international cricketers play in BPL and I am sure a lot of our local players aren't any worse than them.

Yes and no.

With such leagues, organisers need to balance entertainment/drawing crowds with developing local domestic talent.

On the one hand, you don't want to be too restrictive on international players playing as otherwise you end up with a glorified domestic league. Plus, local players will miss out on the experience of playing/learning from international players. Not to mention the fact that a larger international presence is more likely to attract (i) local crowds and (ii) international interest. In other words if money and buzz are the primary aims, then the more international cricketers playing the better. This is clearly what the BCB had in mind by increasing the foreign players cap up to 5.

On the other hand, if the league's priority is to develop local talent the organisers should be careful on how many international players are permitted in each side. My own preference is for such leagues to develop local talent, which is why I expressed my disappointment at the BPL's increase. After all, by increasing the number of internationals playing by definition you reduce the number of opportunities for local upcoming players.

It's a difficult balance to strike. Crucially, in the BPL the new rule means each side can field up to five overseas players in their XI (minimum three). The decision is left in the hands of the franchises, which means your fears about mediocre international cricketers playing ahead of equally talented local players are unlikely to materialise. Had they made playing five foreign players mandatory, then that certainly would have been a backwards step.

As an aside, I think Fahim Ashraf caught the attention of Bangladeshi fans after his match winning knock against them in the warm up game. I would actually say he would be more of a draw than Matthews. In any case, Fahim will play on merit- he will show himself to be a very useful addition to any t20 side.

If he can impress the coach then Fahim Ashraf will surely be picked no doubt. But its going to be difficult to play ahead of others. Will get some 5-6 matches

As a neutral, good on the BCB for being proactive and recognizing there is not enough elite local talent to compensate for 8 teams in the league. Besides, if a team feels like playing four foreigners will be better for them, they can do so. It is not the job or concern of the franchises to develop players or ensure they get adequate playing time.

As a neutral I can see why they have done it.

However if I was Bangladeshi, I would be disappointed by the increase to 5 foreigner players in the playing xi. Clearly the BCB's priority with the BPL is not to develop local talent.
