Have Australia and India hit rock bottom?

Quality of test cricket has been better in the last 10 years. Result oriented pitches and teams going for wins. Much better than 00s decade.
I think there's 2 sides to this. It's definitely been more results-orientated, but it's hard to say whether that's due to a general improvement in quality of a gradual decline in batting quality.

IMO bowling has definitely maintained it's standard in quality, but batting has taken a dip. We've seen it for a few years now around world, with poor shot selection and no patience to grind out difficult periods and buy time at the crease. There have been some exceptions, but this has generally been the norm.

As a fan I'm not really complaining, I'm all for results. Just wish it didn't have to come at the cost of something. Hard-fought draws and wins have their place too.

Yes. This has been the theme for the past 10 years or so.

I blame circuses like T20, T10, The Hundred etc.

That’s a very poor argument which shows lack of understanding.

You are not taking conditions, current form, age etc into account while making your argument and just based it on historical data.
That’s how newbies without any knowledge make posts.

Apart from Bumrah (best bowler in the world) none of your points stand in 2024/25.
You have to define weakness and strength in terms of larger time frames than 6 months period. In 6 months things can go up and down. Over last 2-3 years India have been very strong.

Your argument was best batsman of the generation, best all rounder of the generation which doesn’t take into account various factors.

Kohli is a mediocre test bat in 2024/25 and has been so since 2020.
Ashwin in Australia is a mediocre all rounder and not even the best spinner.

You are mixing different conditions and coming to a conclusion which is not the way things work. For Australian conditions, the whole team was mediocre coming into this series apart from Bumrah.

The people who would have made this Indian team a strong candidate even in 2024
1. Bumrah
2. Shami
3. In-form/Prime Kohli
4. Pre accident Pant
5. Pujara

Apart from Bumrah none of these were there, hence coming to series India were a mediocre team.

India is going through transition phase, players like Jaiswal, Gill, Rana, Reddy etc might grow into strong players or they might fizzle into mediocrity, but until the former happens Indian team will not be a quality side compared to past Indian teams with players in their peak.

Despite those conditions when you have those players you cannot say rock bottom.

Yes you can transitional phase but not rock bottom.

No one is saying rock bottom, OP exaggerates and trolls to absurd lengths to make his point but he doesn’t mean rock bottom per say.

This might be the only time in history when all teams are going through a transition phase around the same time, so it might feel the quality is not as good as it was when the same generation of players were producing some quality series.

That’s natural to feel, however, the way things are going test matches might not ever reach the height they reached (quality wise) in future.

Ok I wasn't aware he was trolling this.

Team India is still strong with good strengths in all areas. I believe we are stronger than all of the other countries. Yes you can say weak compared to Sachin and David years but not every time can be golden period.

The final Test is really proving my point: it’s great because it’s like watching two bald men fighting over a comb!

I am not sure you proved any point. lol Two equally strong teams competing well here. I can give you tons of examples from the old era. The difference is Australia and India are more or less equal in this era. In the 1980s West Indies were far far ahead of everyone. Australia in 2000s was far far ahead of everyone. In the 90s all were garbage teams.

He used to complain a lot about how Aussies are racist to him and consider Pakistan cricket team as nothing. :ROFLMAO:
