Don't know much about this guy. Today was the first time I had seen him play and I am impressed. Played some pretty amazing shots and has taken his team home in a pressure match.

He's got a lot of AB in him. Probably his idol. Today he was fantastic. He's got a Bright future ahead of him.

He looked total hack in last match and this match until miler's no ball and then suddenly middling everything. Let's wait till he played with dry ball.

He is the South African Martin Guptill.. Aman you watch the highlights of his batting.

Cant believe SA plays the likes of JP in their team.

Heinrich Klaasen hits an off-side wide from Yuzvendra Chahal for four to square-leg

Chahal to Klaasen!

<div style="width: 100%; height: 0px; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.250%;"><iframe src="https://streamable.com/s/a6qyf/apljyx" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" allowfullscreen style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute;"></iframe></div>

Yep saw it live and it is really possible many times against chahal as he keeps bowling wide when he is in little pressure. I saw him bowling wide balls many times in death overs as well but most batsman fail to hit those ball but if you move outside off stumps then there is easy way to hit those balls.

This is a wahabeque ball (which he bowled to steve smith).

Batsman was moving towards off stump before the ball was delivered. Aim it at leg stump silly.

It’s different from that Smith-Wahab incident. IIRC Smith had already taken the outside off stance before the delivery.

Here Klaasen moved quickly when Chahal bowled that delivery.

It was still a silly thing to do from Chahal. He might want to forget that spell. Wides, Noballs . Continuously over stepping is criminal from a spinner.

Heinrich Klaasen

This guy is a very good power hitter. Does anyone know why he is not part of PSL? He only plays one dayers and T20's so he should be available for almost all of PSL.

South Africa must be in a dilemma now. Should they bring back QdK who they were “saving” for the Australia tests to save Klassen instead? :D

Not sure he is comfortable against quick bowlers. But if the pitch doesn't offer turn spinners will be murdered by him. He can still make mistakes on a dry wicket.

Seems like a very good ODI player, time for SA to ditch Miller and get Klaasen in the middle order.

De Kock, Amla, Faf, ABD, Duminy, Klaasen is a good top 6.

A fantastic player just look at his avg in first class , la and t20. 46, 36 and 36 respectively

Looking like another world-class player to emerge from South Africa.

Is it feasible given the quota system though?

Good player

Love his voice also when he speaks. Sounds like an absolute banter package for the team

Is it feasible given the quota system though?

Yes. This is why he replaced Miller and not JP.

JP cant be dropped thanks to quotas system. He will go on and play 250 odi games. Hence, a superior player, Miller has to be sacrificed or else Klaseen has to wait for retirement of AB or Faf .

He is a strongly built guy. He uses his bat like a wand. Also his head is very still when he plays his shots.
Will be a big hit in T20 games as he hardly takes anytime to settle down.

Not convinced with him. I would wait until he plays a similar inning with a dry ball.

Everyone was smashing Chahal due to wet ball. Same thing happened in 4th ODI also. Ball got wet and Klassen/Phelukawayo/Miller were all hitting sixes for fun against Chahal and Kuldeep. Then the next 2 ODI's, ball was dry and they looked like total noobs.

He's done it for more that 1 or 2 innings. The guy can bat, and smash the ball.

High time Klaasen replaces the hapless De Kock in the test Team.

deKock has been playing like a tailender lately. It's high time the management gives Klaasen a chance instead of playing deKock again and again. :trump

Very exciting player.

Should be the first player on the list if any overseas player of IPL/PSL roster gets injured.

His best ODI inning till date and I expect this to stay for a good time.

Another victim of the quota system. SA can only play one of Miller, RVD and Klaasen regularly and I think RVD is better than them so thats why Klaasen is unfortunate.

Excellent player of spin and has improved against pace. He has no business being on the bench for John Jo Smuts.

Klassen will play regularly from now on in this side. That knock against a good oz attack under pressure was splendid knock

Haris Rauf to Klaasen, 1 run, whipped away to fine leg and Klaasen is finally off the mark after 19 balls

during 1st ODI vs Pakistan (2021)

Klassen is a very ordinary player. As I said South Africa do have plenty of good players at domestic level who at least deserve to get a look in. I don't know why Boucher doesn't consider them.

Verryene, Hamza, Janneman, T de Zorzi, Keegan Peterson are worth giving a go. 3 of them are colored, so they will still meet transformation targets.

Bowling they have Nandre Burger who is quite nippy and that U19 lad Coetzee who may eventually get a look in.

Heinrich Klaasen smashes his way to a fourth career T20I half-century in the 2nd T20I vs India

STAT: 81 by Klaasen is the highest individual score for SA against India in T20Is surpassing De Kock's 79* in Bengaluru in 2019

Heinrich Klaasen: Pretty special feeling. Little bit slower than the previous wickets. Little bit stoppiness from spinners. Trying to keep it as simple as possible (his method). Sometimes I search for flow with my hands, and the movement up and down causes inconsistency. So tried to keep hands as still as possible. Would love to say we're above par. They've got a fantastic batting unit. If we get couple of wickets early it should be enough.

Monster innings against Australia!

One for the history books. Heinrich Klaasen just belted the fifth highest score by a South African in ODI cricket

42nd over - 24 runs.
43rd over - 18 runs.
44th over - 20 runs.
45th over - 16 runs.
46th over - 7 runs.
47th over - 17 runs.
48th over - 26 runs.
49th over - 16 runs.
50th over - 21 runs.

164 runs in the last 9 overs by Klaasen and Miller - 14 sixes, 11 fours.

He is one of the most underrated batters in world cricket but his innings today proved that he is a class act and would be a really important part of South Africa team in the upcoming World Cup.

Heinrich Klaasen earlier today:

First 25 balls - 24 runs
Next 58 balls - 150 runs

Some of the best batting you will ever see and the sort of innings only very few current batters could have played.

Klaasen has improved immensely in last 12 months and I was wrong about him being a mediocre player, but truth is that at the time, he wasn't coming off at all. However I'm not bull headed to defend everything I've said before, and do admit that I was wrong.

This won’t be the first thing you will be wrong about. Believe it.

A Pakistani player couldn't play like this even if he had 20 wickets. Our batting is stuck in the 1980s.

Major gains were seen in MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings. Heinrich Klaasen of South Africa bludgeoned an all-time destructive ODI knock against Australia in the fourth ODI.

No one has scored more runs in an ODI innings at a higher strike-rate than Klaasen’s 174 at 209.64 in Centurion. It helped South Africa to a 164-run win and moved Klaasen 20 places in the Men’s ODI Batting Rankings. He is now placed in ninth.

Beast incarnate

One of the best and most sought after Keeper Batsmen in world cricket. Box office!

The guy genuinely deserves Brock Lesnar’s entrance music when he comes in to bat. Ring the Alarm sirens when Klaasen is in the house!!

He has come a long way and improved his style of batting. The most improved cricketer for south Africa in recent times. Crushed Australia single-handedly in the recent home series. Treat to watch.

Best wicket keeping batsman right now, He has the abilities to change the game anytime.

He has done really well in IPL too which means Indian pitches suits him to play massive innings.

Pakistani batsmen do Sajda after 50s.

They are not interested in scoring 170 off 60 odd balls.

Heinrich Klassen dominated this year in ODIs in terms of SR. He has been in red hot form during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

Best Batting strike rate in a calendar year 2023 in ODIs

(Min 900 runs)

140.66 Heinrich Klaasen (2023)
137.91 AB de Villiers (2015)
118.22 Jonny Bairstow (2018)
117.07 Rohit Sharma (2023)
113.59 - Sanath Jayasuriya (1997)
113.26 - Aiden Markram (2023)
112.66 - David Warner (2023)
112.48 Sanath Jayasuriya (1996)

Proteas wicketkeeper batter Heinrich Klaasen has today announced his retirement from Test cricket.

The 32-year-old steps away from the red-ball format after featuring in four matches for South Africa between 2019 and 2023.

He made his Test debut in India and went on to represent the country in Australia and twice played against the West Indies last summer.

He also played 85 first-class matches where he amassed 5347 runs at an average of 46.09, including 12 hundreds and a career-best of 292 for the Momentum Multiply Titans in the CSA 4-Day Series.

Speaking on his decision, Klaasen said: “After a few sleepless nights wondering if I am making the right decision, I have decided to retire from red-ball cricket. It’s a difficult decision that I have made because it is by far my favourite format of the game.

"The battles that I faced on and off the field have made me the cricketer I am today. It has been a great journey and I am glad I could have represented my country.

"My baggy Test cap is the most precious cap I have ever been handed.

"Thanks to everyone that has played a part in my red-ball career and shaped me into the cricketer I am today. But for now a new challenge awaits and I am looking forward to it.”

Cricket South Africa’s Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe added: “It is tough to see a player of Heinrich's calibre step away from red-ball cricket, but we respect his decision.

“We look forward to seeing him excel in the white-ball arena and continue to make valuable contributions to South African cricket in the years ahead."

Test cricket is losing its worth day by day. Another big name takes an early retirement from this format.

Klaasen retires from Test cricket.

Outside of Big 3 , Test cricket simply has no takers.

This is a reality that ICC needs to accept.

Even NZ is not immune to this with Boult having retired from Test cricket , effectively.

Ture, test cricket is dead.
You know how Wasim Akram keeps saying, "Its the greatest form of cricket, and players need to priotitise it" etc etc
I'm can't say for a fact, but I'm quite confident he would have prioritized T20 over Test if he were playing today.

Heinrich Klaasen's explosive prowess reached new heights as he blazed through the SA20 League, notching the fastest fifty in history with a staggering 50 off just 16 balls. Unrelenting, he concluded his innings at an astonishing 50 off 17, solidifying his status as a T20 beast.

With his T20 stocks soaring, Heinrich Klaasen has been snapped up by Saint Lucia Kings for CPL 2024, opening up more doors for the in-form batsman in the lucrative league.

Guy plays everywhere but we can’t seem to nail him down for PSL!

Former India pacer Zaheer Khan while talking to a sports media outlet:

“I think for South Africa it is going to be (Heinrich) Klaasen because the battle is going to be and the match-up is going to be like how all these three spinners go on about bowling in that middle phase and how South Africa is going to deal with that kind of a threat in the middle. so, Klaasen for South Africa and for India let’s go with Virat Kohli.”

It was brilliant knock in final against best spinners. Sadly came in loss, but can't fault his efforts.

Amazing to watch when on song.

Really enjoyed his brutal hitting. Pure power hitting.
