In a controversial statement, a Bajrang Dal worker in Assam’s Cachar district on Thursday threatened to assault Hindus if they visit a church on Christmas, Barak Bulletin reported.

“If Hindus go and visit churches on Christmas day, they will get brutally beaten,” Mithun Nath, District General Secretary of Bajrang Dal said at an event. “They are locking temples in Shillong and we are going and celebrating with them. This cannot happen, we will not allow this to happen.”

Nath was referring to a recent incident in the Meghalaya capital, where the Vivekananda Cultural Centre, in the city’s Quinton Road, was allegedly locked up by members of the Khasi Students Union, according to Barak Bulletin. The centre is a part of the local branch of the Ramakrishna Mission. However, speaking to the website, the mission’s secretary confirmed that that the temple in its premises was not locked up and matter was only related to the cultural centre.

Nath, however, referred to the matter to back his threat against Hindus who might visit a church.

“I know what the headlines will be on December 26,” Nath said, according to Barak Bulletin. “Bajrang Dal goons vandalised Oriental School will be the news in every newspaper, but we don’t care. We will not allow Hindus in programmes during Christmas when they are locking gates of temples in Shillong.”

He further said that the Hindutva group takes pride in being called “gunda” [goons]. “The press calls us Gunda Gang,” Nath said. “If our Hindu girls are touched and harassed we will become gundas and we are proud of it.”

When Shakib got threats for visiting a temple, weren’t Indian posters giving sermons on how in India no would have an issue if a Hindu visits another place of worship?

BIMARU gonna BIMARU.

Thread wasn't getting much love so I thought I'd step in with an appropriate response.

Interesting. It started to happen way before expected.

The theory was, after Muslims, Christians, and other minorities were done with, these Hindu fanatics will go after the fellow Hindus. Why do Hindu women wear western clothing, why do they have women at places of work, why didn’t someone attend the temple, or ate non-veg, why Dalits are placed on jobs other than janitorial positions, etc? These would then be the causes of public lynchings.

It may sound. far fetched and dramatized but I think it’s coming. This is just a start.

This. I often tell to my South Indian Sanghis that once these chaddi-boys are done with minorities in India, they will come after you for not being able to speak Hindi. Fanatics will always find someone to hate.

Absolutely pathetic, he should be in jail for inciting violence but we know that would never happen with the current state India is in.

What is Bajrang Dal? A party or some sort of organisation?

Hitman How do you feel about this?

What was the situation with the Vivekanada institute. Why did that happen..

Why will hindus go to church, let alone on christmas? it is not a hindu festival. Although nothing wrong in celebrating the food aspect and having plum cake and wishing your christian friends. But that is about it.

Many do go, it's not a religious but cultural thing.

It is a religious thing and culture must be protected from such influences. For the same reason, I wont support christians visiting a temple. Food is different matter. Hindus can celebrate that aspect of christmas. I always order a rum cake during christmas, but that is how far i can go despite studying in a missionary school and had the irish father waive off my school fees.

So bottom line you advocate the threats n violence like him?

Boss, you can stick with what you are comfortable with. You don't need to take offense of what others do. You can disagree but you don't have any right to intervene or. I love Christmas and have attended Mass on 24th night and will do so again in future. And I will love Christians and Muslims participating in Hindu festivities. It's all about appreciating each other and coexisting in mutual respect and harmony.

I disagree with what you do. Christians, Muslims and Hindus can still co-exist without having to participate in each others religious festivals. Don't support religious syncretism. I don't hate muslims or people from any other religion. Just want everyone to uphold the values of their religion.

Bajrang Dal hmm? They were never very relevant and still amount to nothing despite the BJP rule in India. They are known only for their anti-Valentine day thuggery in some parts and for idiotic statements like this.

No one will give a damn to their threats.

If i remember right, bajrang dal also used to issue threats to Pakistan cricket team whenever they visited their territory or something.

That was mostly shiv sena who would dig the pitch, but they have turned over a new leaf and focussing on development. When I was in Kolkata, the police had night duty to protect the cricket pitch before a match at eden gardens, and neither bajrang dal or shiv sena had presence there.

As long as you disagree but maintain civility, I am fine. My problem will be if people with such opinion decide to come to street and try to impose their thoughts on others. I will prefer to ignore those idiots but somebody trying to be a rowdy deserve a proper thrashing regardless of which religion he belongs to.

No one should be beaten up. But there should be peaceful protest against this syncretism. I don't have to do an Eid ki namaaz to wish someone on Eid.

Also why hindus are not seen performing namaaz but don't mind going to a church? Is that because they associate christianity with the west and aping the west supersedes their dislike for muslims?

You said you attend the mass. Do you also join muslims on Eid ki namaaz?

Where did I advocate threats of violence? cannot I peacefully disagree and peacefully protest?

The thread is about someone who isnt peacefully disagreeing and you havent condemn that instead youve agreed with his views

Read my posts above. I haven't condoned violence. But let your imagination run away with you.

Yes I have joined Eid celebrations by my Muslim neighbours several times in past. I do not understand the ritual side of it and did not offer Namaz but that does not deter me to be part of the celebrations. My Muslim neighbours send their small kids during Diwali and we had great time bursting crackers together. Similarly I went to mass, have been part of the crowd but not necessarily went there as a worshipper unlike a devout Christian.

What is the protest for? That your definition of faith does not match every letter with the person next to you? That he can't call himself a Hindu or Muslim or whatever you identify yourself with because of that minute difference disregarding the fact that you and him are actually a lot similar?

Easy with those assumptions. No one is going out of the fold of my religion because of my opinion. I put rights of the community above the rights of an individual and will oppose peacefully all the attempts to slow poison my culture and religion using this artificial syncretism. People can wish each other merry christmas and attend dinners if invited, but attending the mass at church is where i draw the line.

I am fine as long as you do it for yourself and not others.

I would assume that people who have been attacked and beaten up by them in the past probably give a "damn". Why are you making it seem like this group is just words? A simple google search would show you that they have been pretty violent especially in recent days.

Because they like it. India is a free country.

You havent condoned it but you havent condemned the threats and violence in the OP either

Why cant you just live and let live instead of trying to interfere in what others do? How is it any of your business?

Not condemning something means you support it? When I have said many times that I don't support violence. I will not do something just because you demand it. You are free to interpret it anyway you want.
