How do you rate Peter Handscomb?

He seems to have good temperament and is scoring runs at every opportunity. A solid middle order bat IMO. What are your thoughts?
 
Have rated him very highly even before his debut.

Bancroft is another quality prospect I rate. Australia should take him to India.
 
Rate him highly. Best among all Aussie new comers
 
India will be quite a challenge for him but his offensive game against spin is not bad at all. Defence yet to be tested. Likes to come down like Pujara and target the wide mid-on region.
 
Showed some really good form to start his career. Two hundreds in your first series is unheard of.
 
He will have trouble against against away swing against righties because he gets cramped for room and doesn't move forward as confidently. The bowlers can pitch it up a foot or two further up than they can to normal batsmen. That's how Abbot trapped him. He will eventually have to come down a foot to alter that length.
 
Looks steady at crease not sure about how he would play odd/low bounce though.
 
Hes the 3rd best player in the team behind Smith and Warner.

Khawaja is gonna be a sitting duck in asia
 
If he's going to sit back that deep in India, Jadeja will be all over him. Defence has hardly been tested right now.
 
He looks to be a balanced guy with good temperament and looks very stylish in his stroke play am very impressed with his ability to judge the depth of the crease so not seeing him falling cheaply against spinners

He may struggle in swinging conditions against good attacks once he loses his form inevitably

But as long as his vision,quick hands and tempremant works he will be a strong prospect all over the world
 
Seeing him play for the 1st time during this series, I am a fan of his already.
 
Obviously very early days but a much better prospect than Voges at this point in time that's for certain.
 
People are doing a mistake here judging him against horrible bowling. I ll reserve my judgement till he plays better attacks and I am talking about seam attacks here because I don't think any of the Australian batsmen is going to do anything of note in India barring maybe Smith.
 
Good player but I don't see him succeeding against fully fit Yasir (UAE), and against Ashwin, Yadav, Jadega and Herath in India.

The reason for that is that he has only Slog sweep and not other 3 types of sweep plus his forward defence against spin isn't that smooth.
 
He's a decent player made to look better than he is,by our bowling attack.

India will be a true test of his caliber as a batsman.
 
looks like he will be a good HTB and do well on bouncy phatta. Remains to be seen if he can do anything in Asia.
 
Im surprised wahab worked him out yet, bowl a few throat high bouncers and then the full ball
 
Seems like a lack of thought and planning from our bowlers against him.

Decent player but made to look better than he is by a mediocre bowling attack.
 
Not fair to rate any batsman on This wicket .... dead flat and no variable bounce .... no guess work required by the batsman !!!!
 
54, 1*, 105, 35, 54 - a strong start to a test career, albeit in Australian conditions.
 
Hundreds on Aussie Wickets are not difficult to score. The ball does not do anything to get the batsman in trouble.
Only mentally weak and lazy batsman will struggle on these pattas. The Aus bowling attack is not that great either. 2 Good pacers and thats all they have.
 
Looks very organized batsman. Good game sense and gifted in timing. Wonderful career ahead.
 
You can never judge a player until he steps outside his comfort zone.
A lot of Australian/Indian cricketers look like rock stars at home

In conditions that suit him. He's no different to Ashwin as far as I'm concerned.

I copied that out of the Warner thread where you claimed that it meant nothing for Warner to average 90 in SA because the conditions were the same.

I just find it fun how you use the same reasons to big up your players and pull down others.

He looks better of the two newcomers. Predominantly a backfoot player. He seems to pick the length early. He would be one of Australia's better player in India. Unfortunately like England, Australia don't have spin attack to challenge India, so whatever their batsmen do would go waste.

I've stopped oohing at any batsman/bowler who performs well away if it's an Australian in South Africa / South African in Australia. Rabada on the current path will be a poor man's James Anderson - a one trick pony who needs favourable conditions to look respectable.

I'm not just a Test specialist: Handscomb

Handscomb has enjoyed a meteoric rise on the international scene over the past two months.

The 25-year-old made an instant impact after earning a shock Test call-up in November, compiling 399 runs at an average of 99.75 in his four matches to date in the baggy green.

And his ODI debut on Thursday was just as memorable, with Handscomb scoring 82 off 84 balls in a seven-wicket win over Pakistan at the WACA Ground.

Handscomb is still viewed by many as a player better suited to the long form of the game.

Prior to making his ODI debut, Handscomb's top score in domestic limited overs cricket was just 72, with an average of 31.4.

But Handscomb is determined to improve his limited-overs cricket, and he hopes his match-winning knock for Australia on Thursday is the start of something special.

Handscomb said he will learn off players like Steve Smith, David Warner, and Glenn Maxwell in a bid to become a more explosive player in one-day cricket.

"I understand my one-day record in domestic cricket isn't great," Handscomb said.

"I guess I just need to be able to find a way to score off more balls.

"In the longer format, you can let a lot go and wait until the ball is in your zone to hit.

"Whereas here, you need to start fabricating a few shots and making a few things up, which I'm working on. And trying to score quicker."

Handscomb was parachuted into the one-day squad following injuries to allrounder Mitch Marsh (shoulder) and Chris Lynn (neck).

Both players are seen as crucial to Australia's future ODI plans, and Handscomb knows he is in danger of being squeezed out at some point.

"If they had been fit, I wouldn't be here, and this opportunity wouldn't have occurred," Handscomb said.

"So in that sense, I've been very lucky as well.

"If I keep getting an opportunity in the middle order in the ODI team, that would be great."

Australia lead the series 2-1 heading into Sunday's clash at the SCG.

He has poor technique and will be found Out in India very very quickly, I am very surprised at what he has achieved so far.

He looked pedestrian in BBL and that what he is , missing Waqar Younis or ShoaiB Akhtar in swinging Yorker which he would have not survived once with his current technique
 
Handscome, Wade, Marsh, Warner are some of the most mediocre batsmen I've seen in Australian team. Australian batting talent has regressed so much.
 
Handscomb is a good player. Not the prettiest to watch and certainly not a complete batsman but a big fighter. I didn't mind that he scored runs against us

Renshaw on the other hand. No way he should be scoring 84 in Test cricket let alone 184

And this has been tested on Aussie Decks which are pace friendly, not 90 degree turners against Ashwin.

I think he's been taking prematurely - as always they will take an talented player to india and ruin his career.

How is it prematurely?

Renshaw sure but Handscomb is best XI anyway so why not take him.

If he fails he sure as hell won't be the first Australian to fail in India
 
Very good. He is here to stay, Australia have found their long-term number 4/5.

Renshaw has a bit of Cook in him. He can make it in Test cricket with some improvement.

Renshaw has a lot of Cook in him. Still raw and he was picked early but hey the experience won't hurt him.
 
very highly rated player, future of Australian test team along with Renshaw.
 
Good inning from him.

Renshaw, Marsh, Handscomb and Maxi all have done something significant this series in comparison to the most destructive opener in the world.

Showed today what a big fighter he is

Renshaw is gritting it out too but he is trash and will be out of the team within 18 months
 
Class player. Cricket is a game of character, which he has in abundance.
 
Should be a regular in the ODI and test team.

Now he is the WC squad as a replacement for Shaun Marsh .
 
I think he is a much better ODI batsman than Maxwell. Aussies should replace Maxwell with him.
 
Australian batter Peter Handscomb has opened up on his mental health struggles during his poor outings with the bat. Handscomb, who had made his Test debut in 2016 against South Africa in Adelaide, started his career at an average of 99.75 in his first four Tests, but was later dropped from the Australian team following a poor run of form in the longest format of the the game. Eyeing a return to the side following a 697-run season in the Sheffield Shield, Handscomb said that he received constant abuse on Facebook and Twitter for his batting technique, suggesting that it was hard to "not take that to heart."

"I found those two platforms probably the worst in terms of people having direct access to you, to just randomly sledge you and take you down,"Handscomb told cricket.com.au.

"When someone's taking the time out to directly message you, calling you s**t or 'How dare you be in the Australian side' - that kind of stuff - it's hard not to take that to heart, especially (given) I was quite young at the time," he added.

Handscomb, who is currently leading Middlesex in the English County Championship, feels that he is better prepared to deal with the criticisms now.

"If that does happen again, and I am lucky enough to play for Australia again then, yeah, I think I'm better equipped to deal with everything that comes with it," the 31-year-old further stated.

Handscomb will feature for Australia 'A' during their tour of Sri Lanka in June.

While the Australian senior team will play three T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests, the 'A' side will play two one-day games and two first-class matches
