What's new

How good a captain is Virat Kohli?

like every other captain he has some positives as well as negatives

Negatives in my view
- Poor Team selections. Never repeated playing 11 .To much experiment
- His preference of Dhawan and Rohit (A clear double standards ..not learning from the mistakes)
Pujara was dropped (for slow scoring) for Rohit .. Rohit fails back to Pujara
Rahane dropped for away series for Rohit ...Rohit Fails again back to Rahane
- Musical chair with Vijay - Dhawan - Rahul .. ( we might see Dhawan back again next match)
-Ego and Too much Power( way he handled Kumble issue is not good and it seems he hates questioning EX: on Rahane and Bhuvi selection issue .. practice matches ...or batting first on CT final
- also sometimes as captain needs to control his emotions
- Need to back Youngsters in ODIs and T20 (still playing with karthik, jadhav and Dhoni(T20)
- needs Dhonis support in Odis

Positives

-Bowlers Captain . Backs Fast Bowlers made a India strong fast bowling unit
- Attacking attitude ..Five bowlers strategy in Tests
-Always involved in game. Even when opposition on Top
-Terrific Batting record as Captain .. no pressure as captain
-Ruthless at Home ( even after winning series prefers a result pitch for complete domination)
- Finally Backing wrist spinners Chahal and Kuldeep in shorter formats

Let's see how this India team can do in England!

Another test another Indian team.

Can he stick with one team for at least 2 consecutive games?

Much as i admire Kohli as a player, his captaincy choices are horrendous. After the disastrous substitution of Rahane with Rohit Sharma in SA (which probably cost India the whole series), he now dropped Pujara for Dhawan, who honestly is a big liability in swinging conditions! What’s the logic?

Indian Premier League: Virat Kohli sacked by Royal Challengers Bangalore?

Royal Challengers Bangalore have rubbished media reports that the franchise has sacked Virat Kohli as captain for the 2019 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

According to reports, RCB are set to sack Kohli from the leadership role and hand over the reins to South African star AB de Villiers.

"We can clarify on record that the news is incorrect and Virat Kohli is very much the captain of RCB for the next season as well," a team spokesperson told India Today.

Virat Kohli has been playing for RCB since the inception of the IPL in 2008 and leading the team for the past six seasons. But the star-studded team has massively underachieved, never having lifted the trophy.

Kohli is currently the second highest run-getter in the IPL behind Suresh Raina. Kohli has scored 4948 runs from 163 matches.

Heads have rolled recently in RCB support staff with head coach Daniel Vettori making way for Gary Kirsten and batting and fielding coach Trent Woodhill and bowling coach Andrew McDonald also asked to go.

Kohli is arguably the best batsman across formats at the moment but his tactical acumen as a captain has come under the scanner in the ongoing Test series in England. Kohli-led RCB also miserably failed to make the IPL play-offs in the 2018 season.

Rumours this. Not that de Villiers is any lesser bad as Kohli as a captain.

The selection and constant changing of the playing 11 is a problem and this is opposite of misbah under whom non performers were almost having to be prised out but equally bad.

I think captaincy carries many duties... motivating and pushing players and opposition..Kohli is a star. Talking to media.. he’s wonderful and articulate

On the field reading conditions and the opposition..he’s a little slow but you can only be as good as your players.

Attacking the opposition....I think leaving aside the verbals he’s actually very good at working with the bowlers. These last 3 matches have actually been very close. But he could have attacked more.

The Indian cricket team started their tour of Australia on a disappointing note as Virat Kohli & Co were defeated by four runs (D/L) in the first T20 International in Brisbane. When asked about the game, former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi said that Virat Kohli is one of his favourite players but he believes Kohli needs to improve as a skipper.

“Virat Kohli is one of my favourite players but he needs to improve as a captain,” Afridi told Times Now.

“India-Australia series is going to be a very exciting contest and this Indian team has what it takes to beat Australia in Australia but the team needs to play together,” he added.

Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar felt that under no circumstance should Kohli have handed the No.3 slot to Rahul in the opening game of the series.

“I don’t think Kohli should have batted at No.4. In the first match of the tour, you want to bat on the position you generally bat on. It is only when you have won a series, you take such chances,” Gavaskar said in the post-match show.

Former Australia skipper Michael Clarke echoed the sentiments and said: “Virat Kohli is that batsman who can come in, take a few balls and bat till the end and win you games. I would want to see him bat up the order at No.3. He can even open but not go down the order.”

Rohit's recent successes at Asia Cup and series vs WI have put a spotlight rightly on Kohli's captaincy. In the recent past whenever there have been similar questions, Kohli has raised his game and scored big to win matches and silence critics. Hoping to see an encore today.

He is like Ponting. Not good tactically, but inspires his team by personal example.

I would like to see kohli fail again.

Reasons:
The cockiness will come down. More realistic approach will be shown.
Kohli can easily up his game and concentrate more on the real formats where his knocks are due - tests and ODIs. He thrives on criticism. That upsurge should come in handy for the other formats.
Team selection will be more judicious. If kohli does not score, no lullu punju from his friends batch can be auto-selected. All selections will be in focus.
Other players will be in focus - separating chalk from cheese kind of thing

As good a player he is, he should stop selecting at his whims.
I really hope he learned his lesson and be more cautious.

Losing is ok but losing with wrong team - owing to wrong selections - is not ok.

He is very poor as he has shown time and again logic isn't his strongest suite and that shows up in his captaincy.Bizzare selections with flawed logic. No wonders this guy thought demonization was a master stroke in India.

What happening in Indian politics is not your concern, Many pakistani player feel Imran Khan is good PM . Well you will get a mockery for that in India.
My point is Just bcz someone is weak in one area doesn't mean same in other.
your captain loose 2 home test series with one whitewash. So basically kohli is not very poor bcz sarfaraz is present ,captaining your team.
He is not great but becoming better is what he always do.
I hope when he will finish , he will be one of the best captain.

and if you can't see him fail due to his own talent and hardwork, fail him by any means like getting him out in the match today with Pakistan when he was clearly non-out

India wins 3/4 ODIs under him, just behind Lloyd & Ponting.

Has to be one of the worst Indian captains in modern time? No ICC tournaments to his name despite having star studded teams at his disposal. No IPLs to his name despite being captain since 2013. First captain to lose to Pakistan at a World Cup. Tactically he seems clueless with his selections and combinations.

I know many Indian fans aren't a fan of his captaincy but he never seems to come under any scrutiny from mainstream media.

Pathetic captain. Should have never been made captain at least in the shorter formats. We could have won quite a few tourneys if not for his dumb and clueless captaincy.

Thank you for your bilateral dominance,

Enjoy test captaincy, which probably won't be taken away from you.

Now go back to being the best batsman in the world and let us win something for a change.

India's failure at ICC tournaments under Kohli is not surprising.

India with favourite tags in almost every ICC tournaments failed to grab a single trophy under Virat Kohli..
Just observe body language of Kohli whenever there is even small amount of pressure.
This guy can't handle emotions and expectations which is clearly visible through his clueless captaincy and batting.
What we can expect from a clueless captain who haven't won a single trophy for his franchise despite being captain for almost a decade having ATGs of the format in the team.
