What's new

How good is Fakhar Zaman in big matches?

2nd best Pakistani opened in LOI’s till date.. If he has a good 3-4 more years and gives a great performance in 2019 WC will go past Saeed Anwar to be the best ..

Pakistan are lucky to have found him.. He is tailor made for today’s LOI’s and is like Pakistan’s Sehwag..

Looks good in pressure situations . Reminds a bit of Younis in the way that he doesn't always look convincing but finds a way.

Playing a good knock here

He needs to take us home though

Better than Anwar

Anwar was a sitting duck against AUS,ENG,SAF in non asian conditions

Fakhar is good irrespective of a final. He is just a total champion!

Despite the limitations in his technique he always seems to find a way. The good thing about him is the attitude. Never gets over awed by the situation. Plays his natural game

Special, special player

Fakhar, Babar and Asif are three very good players who will carry Pakistan batting in years to come

I rate him the best ODI opener we ever have. Even Saeed Anwar failed in high profile final like this

As some poster mentioned above, this Lad is good in every single match that I have seen recently and not just the finals. Babar azam might score centuries but can never be able to handle a pressure situation like what Fakhar did today while chasing. He's the only player I rate highly in the current Pak LOI batting setup. Turning into a real Superstar of Pakistan Cricket and setting the stardards too high for other Pak bastmen to follow. Hope others take inspiration from him. Good going!

Fakhar and sharjeel would have been a destructive pair. Man we could have had a very good batting unit.

The rise of Fakhar Zamaan has been nothing short of phenomenal. A few years back he said that he feels ready for international cricket. He was ignored under the Waqar's tenure for quite a long time even after having blasted oppositions in domestic tournaments.

When he was finally picked, the team management made him bat at number 6 and asked to slog. An unnatural role in an unnatural position made sure that he lost the plot and under performed. Drawing venomous criticism from all corners with titles such as "hack", "undeserving" , "ugly batsman" etc. it was finally in the Champions trophy that he was made to play in his natural position and given freedom to play the way he likes. The world has witnessed the emergence of next great Pakistani opener ever since.

With now two match winning scores in two finals and a lot of consistent performances to his name, he is now mentally the strongest Pakistani player in a team which has quite a few mentally strong players like Shadab khan, Hasan Ali, Amir, Imad waseem, Sarfaraz ahmad etc.

Fakhar Zamaan is clearly Pakistan's most valuable batsman in t20s and the most impactful batsman for Pakistan in ODIs ahead of the likes of Babar Azam and Shoaib Malik. With a lot of high profile games and tournaments coming up in next 15 months, Fakhar has an opportunity to cement his name as one of the most high profile players in world cricket. Given his immense ability, nerves of steel and the discipline which is a part of him since his days in navy, it would not be a surprise if he leads Pakistan to more glory in the future.

Beautiful post. Sums up the quality of Fakhar Zaman properly. Fakhar is class above the rest of his colleagues and that includes Babar who can pad up stats but plays impact-less innings as of yet.

Yes, i want to see Fakhar as our next t20I captain. Been thinking that since quite a while.

He is a terrific tactician from what i have seen. He captained one team in domestics, gave chances to youngsters, took bold decisions, promoted many young batsmen up the order, dropped non-performing seniors. Was really impressed with his captaincy.

God bless Mickey Arthur and Inzamam. Thankgod we got rid of Waqar; he was cancerous to our team and would have led our cricket to extinction.

Fakhir is a gold standard, what a player, takes off pressure by putting it back on the opposition. Despite getting two wickets on spinner in first over, they were always scared of giving it back to spinners, and whenever they did Fakhir hammered them but not just spinners!!

This guy is mentally tough and so is Asif. Seniors need to learn from them...

In last few years we are getting physically fit and mentally tough players, Amir, Fakhir, Shadab, Asif, Faheem, Hasan they are all mentally strong. I get same feeling for S Afridi, wait till he gets more games under his belt....

It’s the seniors who are disappointing and cannot compete with young lot 🙄🙄🙄

I hope Sarfraz does the sensible thing and retires from t20I.

Wow, this deserves massive respect. Turning out to be a solid future legend prospect.

Salute to FAUJI.. Brilliant temperament and class, steps up when it really matters. If he keeps it up for a few years he can easily be Pakistan's greatest opener. I hope he doesn't follow the lead of others before him and tail off, but he is head and shoulders above any other batsmen in our team at the moment.

big match player ... really pleased to see him deliver in the clutch yet again! Hope he gets at least one 150+ score against Zim in the ODIs

Well played Fakhar Zaman, a magnificent innings but he opener. Really set the tone for today's innings.

A hack who needs a million things to go his way before he can score some runs, they said.

Is this even a final? i think there are 15 people in the stands

Wait before we actually win the game before bumping this thread. Fakhar got himself out after a bit of pressure which isn't good for someone who is supposed to be good under pressure.

Bigger the stage, bigger is the player.

Fakhar destined to become Pakistan's Saeed Anwar and they might have just got Saeed Anwar's opening pair as far as Pakistan ODI XI of all time is concerned.

He needs a life before he makes it big. Today a straight forward slip catch was dropped by Amla.

I don't like the way his bat comes down from outside off stump and he ends up playing shots to the onside which should go straight. In a sense he is a hack, but he has some good shots in his locker, so in a limited overs format he can win you matches.
