How highly would you rank the 2019 World Cup final amongst the best matches ever?

It is undoubtedly the Best ODI Finals ever but where would you rank it among the all time best matches ?

Talked to a few Folks who have mentioned that this game is the best they have ever seen as the drama that unfolded especially during the final overs has been unmatched, even going all to way down to the final ball of the Super Over with pendulum regularly swinging in favour of both the teams.

We have seen the 1999 Tied Semi Finals, 434 Run chase and many other incredible Odis.

Where would you rank this match among the history?

I personally felt that this is the best match I have ever seen.
 
Although the ending was heartbreaking and the over throw a touch of luck and a cruel way to get runs I have to admit this match had everything in. It was like watching a movie a movie that had to many twist and turns

New Zealand hard luck but sometimes loses like this happen, they got unlucky but they have themself to blame to de grand homme dropping a catch and Boult catching the ball and touching the boundary rope


All In all the best game I have ever seen

I would still rate the 99 semi between Aus and SA higher purely because this one had the luck factor and the freakish overthrow in it.. but it’s probabky the second best game ever after that 99 semi.
 
Best match, but only the finish leaves it as a farce. Pathetic end to an amazing game, which is why it won't be the best.
 
Epic.... couldn't have written a better script. The 92 resemblance of Pakistani games were all the signs pointing to and for the England team. How the 92 world cup could have been.
 
I agree boundaries should not be a tie-breaker; you could make the argument wickets should be then also. They should have another super over, just like in soccer they keep having penalties till one team wins.
 
It was a great match before it ended now it is one of the most horrible finishes of any sport I have seen in my life.
 
My personal favourite is Pakistan-India in Karachi 2004 due to the individual performances, narrative, history of the two teams and the rivalry as well as the atmosphere.

But the drama in this final was off the charts, and scarcely believable even now.
 
Can only change the rules after. They won fair and square no matter how bad of a taste it leaves. But I get your point completely.
 
The best ODI match of all time.

With a Shakespearean ending; shame I only saw about 40 minutes of the beginning of England’s innings.

Missed out big time.
 
It's either this match or the 99 semi final it's close that is still hard to believe when you watch it back the way it happened.

This was the Finals and went to a Super Over!

Two teams who had never won a WC slug it out at Lords.

You're comparing a semi to a world cup final with the championship at stake. Apples and oranges.
 
People are funny, comparing a world cup final to a semi :)) That's like comparing the conference finals to the NBA finals. You can't compare them.
 
Greatest sports game I've witnessed followed by 2005 Champions League final and 2008 Wimbledon final.

Certainly GOAT ODI by a mile.
 
The best ICC events final ever and by some distance but could it be the best cricket match ever? Or the best ODI?

That is tough to answer because that could be very subjective. For me my FAVOURITE ODI is Pakistan's annihilation of India in the CT Final.

Objectively speaking however, this has to be up there alongside the top 3 or 4 matches ever. Just remarkable powers of concentration and fitness on display by everyone.

The ct final was one sided, this was better in terms of suspense and competitiveness.
 
This is the Best game of ODI Cricket ever played, it had everything. My heart is still racing 5 or so hours past the match!
 
One of the greatest world cup finals I have ever witnessed.

You could not predict anything not even when it was tied not even in the super over.

For both teams fighting neck and neck, what more would you want in a final!
 
Best final ever. So many swings, at one time England were out and then when Butler and Stokes were at crease, it seemed like matter of time before England wins it. Then 15 off 6 balls, 15 of 4 balls, and then 2 6s, then two run outs. Who in this day and age cannot make 3 off 2 balls. Well then Super over, good score by England and then wide ball and then a six. 7 off 4 balls and they end up with 6. I was neutral and it was such an excellent game. Not sure how English/Kiwi felt.
 
Greatest game of Cricket ever. End off. I'm still speechless and will most definitely take a while to sink in. You can easily make a movie on this cricket match like (lagaan) that's how good a cricket match this was.
 
Best game of any sports ever.

Nothing will ever top this I don't think, unless we see a 36 in the last over chased down in a final of a World Cup.
 
Both Eng and NZ deserves the world cup. Congratulations to the best WC final ever with top notch cricket quality. I dont think any match would topple this.
 
This match is at par with Greg Chappell's underarm to New Zealand. What makes it worst is that Greg Chappell acted in an individualistic manner whereas this match's outcome relied on the poor law making of the governing body.
 
Incredible game ruined by farcical rules and umpiring. Heads need to roll at the ICC.

Read the match thread from the beginning and yoy will see how boring this match was and how people were complaining about it.

Its only because of the controversial decisions in the final few overs which turn a dour game into an unjustly exciting game!
 
The greatest ODI, ahead of the 99 semi and the 434 game.

The greatest Tests were Laxman 281 following on, Edgbaston 05, and Botham’s Headingley.

People keep saying that this is the best ODI match of all time but I don’t remember a Test or T20 match having this much drama and thrill.

This isn’t just the greatest ODI match of all time but the greatest cricket match of all time.
 
Great match, second best one day international I’ve seen after Pakistan v South Africa in the 2012 World Cup when Hafeez scored 188* to chase 385 scoring 18 off the last over bowled by Dale Steyn , gem of an innings it was too..
 
For me it was the best ODI game ever and I'm following the game for decades.
