Has anyone shifted from Android to iOS? If yes, how were your experience? A little insight would be helpful.

Thanks.

Emulating your idol by jumping ship lol

As for the OP I've never got to that stage, have used the 3gs though although it ws gifted to me was a good phone I didn't like how I had to go through itunes to transfer music and pretty much everything else in those days

Tried it, took a day to go back to android. But thats just me I guess im too used to android.

Like being hit by a bus and a train simulatenously

You tried? How was your experience?

Android just hangs too much, so much freezing after only 6 months of use, iphone on the other hand will function as it did on day 1 even after 5 years of use, plus its soo much easier to use.

I dont know which Android phones you are basing your opinion on. I have the OnePlus 3. It was released in June 2016 and I've had it since then. It cost about 400 USD and 1.5 years after release it is running as well as it did on the first day.

Do you run a custom ROM?

Heavenly considering how ticked off I was with my Android phone by that point.

iPhone is crap. Want a MacBook though. Will shift away from Windows eventually.

People usually compare a $200 android phone with $1000 iphone. If you buy $500 and over android phone you wont have any problems. I had to use an iPhone for a month or so as I broke the screen of my android phone and had a month to go for new contract so didn't want to spend money to repair. It was damn hard as I had never used an iphone before. Most of the bigger apps like facebook etc are the mostly the same. If you use google services a lot you might find some things restricted on iphone. The biggest problem for me with iOS is the inability to change default apps so I cant use browser and maps etc of my choice without needing workarounds.

I switched from a Sony Xperia Z1 (2013 Android Flagship - Android 5) to An Iphone 5S (launched in 2013 - with IOS 8 when I bought it ) in early 2016 :

What I liked :
  • System was way more stable - I was used to the Xperia (of course Sony's skin played a part) sort of crashing once a month and occasionally freezing , which wasn't the case with the Iphone.
  • Paid apps were actually cheaper and of good value - I always hated the "in app purchase" model that android had. Here on IOS , you paid 10, 20 or 120 rupees (never bought the more expensive ones) for an app and that was it - no ads ever !. Many of the apps sold for minuscule amounts , were actually great value. Android is only learning that now. Again I find the cheaper apps way lesser in android, instead more number of expensive apps are available for free compared to IOS, but the ADS completely destroy the experience. !
  • There is almost a instantaneous response for the gestures, especially when switching screens. Android feels like you are pushing the pages/icons, but in IOS it was more like flipping them . And the best thing is they dont slow down randomly like it always happened on older Androids. Android 7 onwards has greatly improved on that though.
  • Tremendous level of control over notification , background app usage and background battery. This only came to android in version 7 .
  • I could reply from the notification popup/banner as well as lockscreen, which came to android only 1-2 years later.
  • Music player was well integrated into the system ie; no mater what app I used - Ipod or the various music streaming services, I would get the controls and current song on the Lockscreen, which android doesn't even give now.
  • Standby power consumption is fantastically low.
  • Touch response/speed of keyboard was way better, even in 3r pary keyboards like swipe.
  • The 'slide-from-left' to go back on any screen feature
  • Ease of setting up and backing up phone
  • I could keep my mail and contacts within Google services themselves, which was great.

What I hated :

  • Having to use Itunes to sync ringtones and photos, I never felt inconvenienced by the music sync as I already had been using Ipods for around 8-9 years before that , and I still feel there are certain thing that Itunes let you do that most Android music servies dont : like Modifying track info , Album art and Adding lyrics - Which matter a lot for audiophiles.
  • Lack of file manager and download facility for music files
  • Skinning / theming obviously
  • There is no shortcut to toggle Mobile data - BIG THUMBS DOWN .
  • Video player was terrible. No decent app store alternatives

I want to shift to Android from iOS.I’m probably going to buy the Samsung S7 when the S9 comes out.Or maybe Note 5.

I don’t know if this helps but I went from iOS to android to windows and then back to iOS and i look back and think what the heck made me leave iOS. It is the most polished and trouble free marriage of hardware/software in the mobile world and nothing else comes close. Might getting a bit used to but once acclimated you wont miss any other half baked ecosystems

Not a bad idea. Just bought my S7 2 weeks back. You'll love how great he display and camera are. The only grouse for me is that Touchwiz though very feature rich, tends to make the phone stutter a lot more than comparable phones from Moto or Oneplus.

I'm waiting for the S9 mini.... I've had the OnePlus 3 since June 2016 and its been a year and a half. Even though it still runs great but I need a big bezel-less screen and DSLR level camera.

Fun fact: Samsung is implementing BBAR coating on their S9 phone camera-lense. The coating is typically found on high-end DSLR cameras and it is used to curb glaring and reflections. Try to keep up Apple.

I just wonder whether iPhone X will be able to go head to head with the upcoming Samsung flagships in 2018 in terms of display and camera, two areas I care for a lot.

Yea, heard of that. There are also rumors of Samsung implementing on-screen fingerprint scanner in the Note 9.

Going from Android to IoS is like leaving Las Vegas and landing in Jeddah.

In other words you have most of the functions from both, but restrictions are more on an IoS.

But it all depends on your requirements.

As far as Hardware goes, Samsung is the only OEM which has traditionally went toe-to-toe and in many cases beaten apple over the years. The S8/Note 8 camera and smaller battery were the only letdowns from them . But worst of all, Touch wiz being a full skin, does lead to a performance degradation of Samsung phones over time.

Hopefully they release a killer S9 and knock the Pixels out of the park. Of all brands my Money is on Samsung to take the Android crown. Wish Sony did something to stay afloat.

Samsung is releasing the foldable Galaxy X next year, it has now been confirmed by a leak on one of their websites where there is a support page for that model. Will probably get it depending on the reviews.

I would really love that trend to take off. I'm starting to hate the glass Slabs phones are becoming. Now the whole Bezel-less fad is gaining ground. Which will make phones further indistinguishable. For all the hate, I can get why Apple went for the "notch" in the X. You NEED to be able to tell your Brand's phone apart even without unlocking the screen. Samsung Kinda gets it too with the very distinguishable "infinity screen" .

A folded/slider touch phone would be great ! Loved it back in the day when the Moto razr and some samsung models could do it. They make using your phone feel special , each time you take a call.

It'll be a phone/tablet kinda design.

It's a downgrade.

Apple hypes up their phones, but Androids are just far ahead of the curve and the ones that provide the best user xp.

This is coming from someone who switched from iOS to Android.

Apple have been playing catch up for a long time. They're well behind on looks too now :))

What on earth were they thinking with that notch :))

This.

Also:
iPhone/iOS is metaphorically equivalent to Henry Ford's "You can have any colour you like, as long as it's black".

Here are some of the things one cannot do with an iPhone (Please correct me if/where I'm wrong), but I find very useful with my android phone:

* Spare battery
* Removable micro SD cards (giving you virtually unlimited storage)
* Transfer files back and forth between my Linux laptop via bluetooth.
* Access the phone from my Linux laptop as if it was a hard drive using a USB to mini USB cable.

I use to have an iPhone 5, I changed to a Galaxy S3 and it's been Galaxy phones ever since.

Currently have the S8 and its the best phone I've ever used. I tried my friends X and it felt like a downgrade.

No back/home button and that annoying notch which you can't help but notice, and then there's all those restrictions that come with iOS.

How was the iPhone X's screen compared to the S8?

I only survived 5 minutes on iOS of 6s. Its fast n flashy bur clearly lacks functionality.

Caused sleepless nights & depression. I couldn’t cope.

Not much of a difference, they've finally caught up to Samsungs screens.

I would either wait for the S9 or get the Note 8 (samsung's newest phone)

If you want the S-Pen, go for Note 8. Or else just wait for S9. Or why not wait for Galaxy X?

Read on The Verge that the S9 will be an iterative upgrade, not a radical change from, say S7->S8.
They might also switch the Fingerprint sensor back to the front bottom.

This is my experience as well. A few years ago the Android phones were very poor user experience compared to the iphone, not to mention they had a premium look and feel about them. I think they got left behind once Samsung brought out the Edge models, and the iphone X looks suspiciously similar to those in my opinion. Go back a couple of years and most third party apps worked better for iphones as well, that was another thing in their favour.

The latest Samsung phones are super slick operation wise, and look fantastic too. I was in Curry's yesterday and was taken how even companies like Huawei are producing great looking phones now, although I can't vouch for their specs or how well they work day to day. I'm sure iphones are great as well, but to me it seems they are just cashing in on a captive market who are pretty much locked into their ecosystem. The face recognition is a leap forward, but I expect we'll see that on Android phones by the time I'm ready to upgrade again in six months time.
