What's new

How much credit would you give to Azhar "Ajju" Mahmood for Pakistan's bowling performance?

His knowledge of bowling in England would be immense.

Would tell the bowlers what lengths to bowl, which end suits which bowler, how to bowl with the slope, etc...

The results are there for everyone to see.

He has been immense. Especially in LOI cricket. Pakistan changed the game in the CT by showing the importance of wickets between overs 10-40. Our attack went from conceding 400+ in England to restricting below 250 in one year.

England have learned the importance of that and sacrificed some of their batting depth for a quality attack. The emergence of Tom Curran has transformed them.

His contribution has been immense. The guy has a wealth of cricketing knowledge and all the bowlers often praise him during interviews.

Hello, we still have another 3 innings to bowl in this series. Let's not get ahead of our selves yet. Where was Azhar's contribution in NZ where none of the bowlers looked penetrative.

Not sure how you came up with a thread like this.

We've been pretty average overall, and for this bowling display we had everything going in our favor. The pitch, the weather, the ball, the toss. Hassan, Abbas, Amir are very talented to start with, from domestics and before Azhars time. He had nothing to do with this.

Don't read too much into it. We need a proper bowling coach.

All players speak highly of Azhar Mahmood and the improvements have been there. He is doing a great job and its good that the bowlers are also listening to him

People think big names = good coaches which is nonsense.

Azhar's doing a fine job.

He's doing good. Also less front foot no balls and I've heard Azhar is working very hard to prevent those.

He has been phenomenal in the limited overs formats but not so sure about test bowling.

You can clearly see that Pakistan bowers have improved their variations and solved the no-ball issue. The reason Hasan, Raees and Amir are lethal ODI/T20 bowlers.

But he hasn't been able to get the basics right for Amir neither have our bowlers improved swing/seam bowling. These are important ingredients to be able to succeed in test cricket. We still rely on Wahab and Yasir in tests in general. In the UK Abbas, Hasan have been able to do well but not to sure what Azhar's contribution is in that as Abbas always bowled this way.

in Englans his bowling plans have been excellent and we all know why.. interesting to see his plans in other parts of the world like the upcoming tour of RSA

Bone dry and flat third day pitch under the blazing sunshine - still torn through England's batting.

Give credit where its due.

Former Pakistan star Azhar Mahmood will ring the five-minute bell before the fourth day of England’s Test Match against Pakistan at Lord’s.

Mahmood, who is currently Pakistan’s Bowling Coach, retired from international cricket in 2007, having played 21 Test matches and 143 One-Day Internationals for his country in a career spanning eleven years.

The all-rounder also became one of the most experienced players in the T20 format, playing 230 matches in the short format, and featuring for many different teams around the world, including both Surrey and Kent in England.

Mahmood follows Waqar Younis in ringing the five-minute bell, as the former Pakistan seamer signalled the start of play on the third day between England and Pakistan.

The ringing of the bell at a Lord’s Test by an international cricketer, administrator or well-known enthusiast of the sport is a recent tradition introduced in 2007.

The bell, which is located outside the Bowlers’ Bar of the Lord’s Pavilion, is rung to signify the imminent start of play, and it has become a great honour to be invited to ring it on the morning of a Test match.
