How popular are AR Rahman's songs in Pakistan?

I have seen many people from Pakistan liking his songs on youtube but wanted to know the opinion of Pakistanis from pakpassion

Pretty much.. If a song has a catchy beat and good vocals then it will be played no end irrespective of whether the singer is Arjit Singh or some unknown. However, what I have noticed is that if there is a Bollywood song sung by a Pakistani singer then it gets played till ad nauseam

Yes. And that also you won't be listening to particular songs but hearing them generally in an event

Even in India hardly anybody knows A R Rehman. He is popular among South Indians and 'few' educated aware people from rest of India. Likes of Sonu Nigam, Anu Malik etc are 10 times more popular, not saying better. North Indians especially don't like his type of music.

Bollywood music, Bollywood movies and the IPL are all big in Pakistan. Few people pretending otherwise over the Internet doesn't change the reality.

People find Bollywood songs catchy and good for dancing, so of course the music is attracting the people. It is not just limited to weddings because a lot of people listen to them in general as well, especially while driving.

There is a significant segment in Pakistan that doesn't have a taste for Western music and Western movies. These people enjoy Bollywood movies and songs, and have good knowledge of the singers, composers etc. However as I said, the majority don't care about the artists in the music industry and just know the famous songs.

Regional music has very strong grip in India, Punjabi's/Haryanvi's/Himachali's/Delhiites prefer Punjabi songs or anything upbeat. Punjabi music rules weddings in North India.

Not sure,hardly watch Indian television shows,my parents used to see some Kapil sharma comedy show guess that's a big thing,and big boss(as that's always in news for something).

Good Indian shows are on netflix(taken from EPIC) or TVF,Indian TV is a boring to me.

Yeah tripling was decent considering it was webseries but production "quality" could had been better, TVF pitchers is actually amazing "problems of a Desi startup",its probably their best show.

Do you folks still have Indian Idol? When we used to get Indian channels in early 2000s then Indian Idol was one of the most talked about shows.

There is American Idol like TV shows for every darn state, language, even multiple different ones for each language. They have it for kids and adults. They also have dance shows like this as well. There is even a Dancing With Celebrities show for movie actors/actresses and another one for television drama actors/actresses. Participants of these shows actually go on to become play back singers, act in movies and so on. Did I forget the comedy hunt shows ? They are there too.

BTW, the singing talent hunt shows go on for like 10 months every season lol. Basically everything is non-stop entertainment and masala. Everything has to be dramatized and over the top, especially when someone gets eliminated. These shows desensitize Indian and Tamil speaking Sri Lankan population and therefore the movies have to be even more dramatic for our folks to feel any emotions. Hence they you get over acting and very stupid movies.

Saw him yesterday in concert at the 02 Arena.

It was absolutely packed out, an amazing atmosphere and a brilliant spectacle.

He's an amazing musician, superb singer and truly gifted.

He had an array of other singers with him who were really good too. They sang a good array of wide-ranging songs.

The evening was really enjoyable - my only criticism would be that he sang mostly non Hindi stuff, which I guess was to keep the South Indian fans happy.

I believe he is south indian himself (Tamil if I recall correctly) so it is perfectly natural for him to perform more songs in his own language. If I recall conversations from my coworkers many of the popular AR Rahman songs from 90s were originally Tamil songs - Indian PPers please correct me if I'm wrong.

AR Rahman's wife Saira Banu has announced their separation after almost three decades of marriage. Saira's lawyer Vandana Shah released an official statement regarding the couple's decision to separate to India Today. AR Rahman tied the knot with Saira Banu in 1995. They are parents to three children – Khatija, Raheema and Ameen.

The official statement read, “After many years of marriage, Mrs Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr. AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs Saira emphasised that she has taken this decision out of pain and agony. Mrs Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time, as she navigates this difficult chapter in her life,” the statement read.

Their son Ameen also posted about it on Instagram and asked followers and fans to ‘respect the family’s privacy’.

I am a big fan of Rahman's music. His peak coincided with my youth. His music has special place in all music fans hearts.

Rahman is one of those extremely calm, soft and noncontroversial guys I have seen in Indian movie industry. It is a bit surprising that they are divorcing after almost 30 yrs of staying together. An age where a man and woman need each other the most.
Rahman is a legend and hope they both find peace after the split.

Just hours before music composer AR Rahman announced his separation from his wife, Saira Banu, ending their 29-year marriage, bassist Mohini Dey, a key member of Rahman’s troupe, also revealed her divorce from her husband, saxophonist Mark Hartsuch. The couple shared the news in a heartfelt joint statement on social media.

Their note on Instagram read: “Dear friends, family, fans, and followers, With a heavy heart, Mark and I announce that we have separated. First, as a commitment to our friends and family, this is a mutual understanding between us. While we remain great friends, we both have decided that we want different things in life and separation through mutual agreement was the best way to proceed.”

Despite their personal separation, the two emphasized their commitment to working together, “We will still be working on several projects together including MaMoGi and Mohini Dey groups.
