How should the pitches for PSL 2 be in comparison to PSL 1?

Despite some fast bowlers (Andre Russell, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Sami) doing well in the first edition of the PSL, the pitches were rather slow and turgid, which do not normally contribute to entertaining T20 Cricket as the usual free-flowing instincts of the batsman are abated by the cautious nature of the pitches, resulting in more conservative stroke-play.

Therefore, IMO, hopefully the pitches are a bit more flat and more geared for stroke-play.

Discuss!

I think they should make Dubai's pitch a road, real flat pitch, and make Sharjah's pitch bowling friendly

First of all, welcome to PP!

So you'd prefer a mixture of pitch types which is interesting but I guess it would only be fair if all teams get equal group matches in each location.

We need flat pitches. Want to see some 200+ scores.

Two teams limping to 150 is not great T20 cricket. Last year, the Dubai pitches were awful but the Sharjah ones were relatively better.

thanks bro
Yeah, I guess we all love to see high scoring games but low scoring games can be very exciting as well, remember that Quetta vs Peshawar play off game?
13 matches are in Dubai and 10 are in Sharjah, so it'll be a nice balance for sides with strong batting line up and sides with strong bowling

Pitches where 170 is possible, but you can restrict teams to 150 if you bowl well.

I miss the days when Pakistan were able to limit teams to under 150 on good batting tracks in T20Is, the bowling tended to be so strong that we assured of victory if the batting made 160.

Anyway, hopefully the matches prove to be entertaining.

I think they'll be better than last year.

A lot of cricket was played in the UAE last year on those pitches so they became very worn and dry. You had Pakistan's "home" internationals, the A team series between Pakistan and England, the series between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe and the MCL.

Ideally they should be hard, flat surfaces with decent bounce so batsmen get value for their shots, with a bit of turn for the spinners, but generally good for batting with 160-170 being par.

I prefer a 150 thriller where the bowlers have a say in the match as well rather than a 200+ slog fest.

They tried to compensate for the slow pitches last year by bringing he boundaries almost half way in. That was embarrassing. The Dubai pitches during the first half were awful

T20 wickets should be absolute batting belters, where 400+ match scores are par.

I expect a pathetic sluggish & dead slow wicket in PSL - before KO matches starts, in later stages of preliminary games, some matches will struggle to post 300in total. It's not easy to make batting belters which gives fair chance to both side batting first or second. Because -

- It needs solid base so that the bounce is consistent (& in higher side);
- it needs high % of clay so that the top surface doesn't crumble & spinners starts to dominate;
- it needs deep rooted live grass (brown'll make it batting belter, green will bring the bowlers - but key is live grass with deep root) so that the pace of the track remains similar - it'll slow down a bit in later stages, but that should be normalized with dew in D/N matches;
- it needs the soil to contain lots of moisture, so that the wicket doesn't get dry too early & make it a dead slow clay court type surface where darters like Imad are king.
- an ideal batting belter should see players timing the ball for six, rather than butchering it with bottom hand. On a perfect batting track - good length balls should never be played with bottom hand, rather it should be timed & placed with top hand, which more or less every Indian LO wicket is.

None of these are there in UAE track, neither these are a quick fix. It takes 1/2 years for a newly laid pitch to settle in to a perfect wicket - therefore, I am not sure why we are expecting batting belters in PSL? They'll do it in an easier way - pull the rope 10 metres in so that top edges can go for SIX & we'll be happy for 200+ targets ......

Should be absolute belters, and if any bowler can come unscathed from it, should be selected to National T20s

Need to have pitches with 180 being the par score.

Rest of the world is playing on roads so there's no point having a balance between bat and ball and having pitches where 160 is a winning score.

Have some life on the pitch or else it will easily get boring and the likes of Steyn may think twice before playing in PSL.

Why can't PSL be the only T20 league where we can see the balance between the bat and the ball ? Why can't it be the only league where the bowlers are praising the pitch ?

1) T20 Leagues are entertainment business and seasonal/neutral fans will only watch it if they get to see sixes and fours.

2) How will we know which young players suit flat pitches if we don't produce them in PSL. We had bowler friendly pitches last year which resulted in Nawaz being selected but once he left the UAE he was exposed.

Should be dead flat wickets with lots of runs in them.

Only then will the best bowlers be identified along with power hitters.

PSL exists to make money, directly it will never truly help Pakistan players to become any better. Pakistan has always produced decent bowlers and it will continue to do so, batting is the problem, how will you choose batsmen if they only have records of batting in flat pitches. No player should be selected based on their T20 performance unless it is for a T20I match. Selectors are probably aware of it as well.

How many T20I pitches do you see these days that are not flat?
If we have tough pitches in PSL, grafters might end up being the most successful batsman, but they won't be as effective when they play for Pakistan abroad on flat pitches because they don't have the shots.
I'm not advocating for selecting players based on PSL performance for any other format, only T20I.

Need pitches as batting friendly as possible. Please !!

How did you find last year's pitches ?

They started of with slow and low pitches, so the games weren't that entertaining. Than some pitches became batting friendly and we got some good batting.

Overall they weren't great but they weren't bad

Yes, I remember Umar Akmal and Sharjeel Khan making some big scores in the middle and end of the tournament.

No need for "tough pitches", I just said it shouldn't be flat. Good batsmen will stand out regardless of what, at least give some advantage to the bowlers.

I take it back.

Pak are seriously lacking quality fast bowlers.

Bring back spinning tracks because there is at least quality spinners and we see them run riot.
