So its almost summer time now, cricket season about to start.

So I wanna know how do you swing the Tape ball, how do inswing and outswing? any tips, suggestions? I can ball pretty fast but can't swing the ball for some reason.

you can try by tearing up the tape on one side, that should get you some movement in the air...with a fully taped ball it will be difficult, depends on your bowling action...you can try by dropping your arm more and bowling slightly more round arm.

Action does not matter with tape ball, tape ball is really easy to swing if you know how. If you have a ball with the tape torn, it will swing full stop. To swing the ball away, hold the torn side on the inside and to swing it in hold the torn side on the outside. Simple, trust me, 4 year old know this in Pakistan.

and if you're not allowed to rip up the tape, then?

It will rip itself. But if it will be taped up as soon as it rips then it wont swing at all unless the wind is involved.

I dunno how you guys play it, but we re-tape the ball/use a new fully taped ball every 2-3 overs or so, so the ripping up part goes out of the equation.

If you're using a tennis ball then tape half of it and leave the rest 'fuzzy', you're guaranteed to get swing with the shine bowling a full length.

This. You'll be bowling like Anwar Ali in no time with this technique :Sami

I usally get the tape ball to swing in right when i bowl with the new ball. Although i am not that good in swinging it away, i can still manage to swing the ball in, and then make it seam out from where it touches the pitch, and this is my main success to getting a batsmen caught behind.

Pakistani's will be Pakistani's haha

why even play with tape ball? play real cricket with hard ball:D

its very easy to spin the tape ball but dont know about swing!

Swing in tapeball totally depends on your action. Period. The only other way is to tear the tape .

There is no seam. May be one can get some spin with his action but swing without tearing up the seam? May be taking advantage of the cross wind but other than that... I want to see a video clip of swinging a tape ball, if possible.

IF you rip it, it will also reduce your pace.

yep it reduces pace, and when the ball gets hit it doesn't go near the boundary either lol

some of us do not the privilege of playing hardball as it requires protective gear and a groomed pitch.

I can just play in an alley or a parking lot with tape ball with no protection and enjoy hitting the ball around

How on earth do you even swing the ball?
The ball spins and swings,I know that very well magar HOW??

aik 2 number tareeqa bhi hai..

take a very small stone and tape it over on the ball. Tape the whole ball. Ball will swing because of stone :D...

I can give u simple tip Grip the ball very hardly in your fingers when bowling It will be a inswinger if u are a right hand bowler to right hander :asif VICEVERSA if you are a lefty bowler :sohail

yeah thats not gonna work. w playing another team tomorrow. First time playing in the league. Nayee team dalee hia . im kinda excited. I bowl pretty decent spin bowling with pace but i dont really spin it much . Was wondering if there was some sort of grip , release or something that would let me spin it a bit .

If you cant tear the tape, do this

Tape Ball ki aik side k tape ko paker dosri taraf dekheltay jao run-up per jatay time aisay kertay raho 1 over baad jab lagay aik side heavy hai tu jis side per tape move kertay rahy ho us taraf ker k ball kerwao.

so kinda make a little bulge on one side and try to bowl like that ?

YArroo scene yeh hai ke shaiyad ball tempering ka chance naa ho. Pakistani ke against hi match hai .Sab pakke hotein hain lol .

Thats what I did :

Leave a triangle when taping the ball.
Two positives:
1.Batsman can't tell which way it will go.
2.It swings :D

I have an inswinging action so my ballsswing but I think you shud now play with a hard ball as thats in differwnt class

Exactly this but the key is fast and full.

Bowl as quickly as possible. Aim for the batsman's toes, and other bodily paraphernalia.

Tape ball cricket is no place for dibbly dobblers. You're only going to get lateral movement if you're seriously quick.

you are wrong there, you can still get pretty decent spin with a tape ball . i've seen people do it and they spin it a lot too. I OTOH can barely spin it but i bowl kinds fast with a spinners action though.

swinging the ball with the above mentioned ways by many users sounds valid in theory but in reality never work.s First off, tape ball matches hardly go over 10 overs so you're pretty much limited to bowling full / yorker length bowls and not giving the batsmen any room. Else you'll see each ball go over your head...Secondly, tape on the tennis bowl is traditionally replenished as soon the one on it starts to show signs of wear and tear. If you let the tape rip, it'll significantly reduce your pace and bounce and it also gets really hard to hit..
IMO, tape ball cricket is all about line, length and pace and not so much on swing

how do you spin a tape ball with a little bit of speed. I mean what kind of grip and release to spin it in or out >

im a legspinner and get alot of turn with tapeball i'll do a video and put it on youtube!

You can easily swing tape ball , i have seen it people doing it and i have done it my self. It all depend on your bowling action .

What me and my mates sometimes do is after taping up the ball, you tape round the ball a couple of times to make a seam. The more tape you use the more pronounced the seam is and then all you have to do to get some swing is apply the principles used when playing with a hard ball.

^ that isn't because of the seam, its because it loses its shape when is taped too much.

We also used to put more tape on one side

Naw, you can swing tape ball easily without fast pace. I am not quick and can swing it both ways. Its all about wrist and body position.

When you release the ball, your wrist must be behind the ball. Best way to do this is place your thumb on the bottom of the ball right in the middle.

Other thing is body position. If your left arm comes across your body (in other words you are more side on) then ball will outswing. If you pull your left arm across and open up more front-on then you will inswing it.

Swinging tape ball is pretty easy. Try to have the rougher surface towards the side you want the ball to swing.

As you deliver the ball wrist movement towards the side you want to move the ball helps.

I used to be able to swing it quite a bit (especially in swing) when I was a teenager.

and if you're not allowed to rip up the tape, then?

tape one side heavily as compared to other.
break the symmetry.

second possibility is to release so ball rotate then it should swing (like football)

This is actually true. If you grip the ball tightly with a little space between your fingers, for right handed bowlers, it will inswing. It always swings in for me from the good length area.

tape ball will swing no matter what. how much will it swing depends on your action.

fast bowlers with a wristy action will swing a brand new tape ball a lot more compared to when it is old. add some wind across the pitch and you can have some fun with the batsmen.

use a bloody windball, tape ball swings easily when i bowl and almost every one can spin it

im a lefty :D u can show me

Just try using your wrist while bowling ,hold the ball from the left side of it,if you want to outswing or hold it from right to inswing it, Reduce your pace and ball a litte bit slow ,you will surely put the batsmen in trouble. You will get some swings , i said SOME swings because you can't swing it Like Wasim Akram:wasim, until the tape is ripped,
A free advice:
Dont try to bowl yorker everytime, try yorker only once in an over , try to ball on short at good length because when we bowl on short length, our body work in such position that our delivery finds swing naturally.

i think what most of these people are saying about swinging tapeballs was actually an illusion of swing caused by angling the delivery into or across the batsman.tapeballs dont swing.this is becaue they are uniformly taped and dont have a seam.if you want swing, you will have to modify the ball for example by forming a very prominent/high seam or by taping only one side of the ball.but good news for you, they do seam around a bit if they have thick enough seam.
and you can try something else.try shining one side with saliva but leave the layer on,dont rub it.preferrably the saliva from the back of the throat which is a bit more thick and sticky.disgusting i know but may hve the same effect as vaseline

You really have an obsession with using natural body secretions to change the condition of the ball, don't you?

Half-tape the ball.

From what I remember the ball will swing in the direction of the tape with a full length.

If you want the big inswinging yorker aim at first slip when you let it go. With the outswinger, aim at around leg stump.

i dont know if you can swing a tape ball at all.. but you can definitely leg-cut or off-cut it even at high speed, just vary your grip on the ball

use a bloody windball, tape ball swings easily when i bowl and almost every one can spin it

And the windball doesn't? The windball is indisputably worse in this regard as nearly everyone can bowl banana-inswinging balls with this ball and the ball spins wildly. In addition, it doesn't truly replicate a real cricket ball as if it isn't times correctly, it turns egg-shaped and when you bowl spin the ball isn't hard enough to replicate a real cricket ball. Therefore, it offers no practice in terms of helping you prepare to play with the corky ball.

Just do this and see.
On the middle of the ball make a seam by repeatedly putting tape. It will sort of be a seam. Hold the ball like you do it for in/out swing and then ball. You can also leave one side of the ball without tape and see some banana balls coming out of your hand #InnerWasimAkram

i agree with you.i myself swing the ball in and out.i have written the details here.

i will also upload video and give link here.

That is when some of your mates come to you and say "Anda hai ke ball?".
This can be roughly translated as "Is it an egg or a ball?"
:iqasim:malik:jf

Tape it from one side and leave the other.THis way more weight will be on the taped side and t will go in that direction,Or you tape one side lightly and the other heavily.

It is generally said that about-face (super) beat is ailing understood, but in actuality it is a simple and aboveboard address that you can try in your own backyard. All you charge is a tennis ball, a cycle of electrical insulation tape, and a set of stumps to aim at. Cover one bisected of the brawl with strips of band and authority it down the center, with the taped ancillary absolutely to one side. For a toe-bruising yorker, accumulate the taped ancillary appear leg and bear the brawl aiming for additional slip. About two-thirds of the way the brawl will ambit like a assistant and blast into the abject of average and leg. The faster you are the better, but you don't accept to be actual quick to actualize the effect. To basin a alarming out swinger, accumulate the taped ancillary adverse off and aim for accomplished leg. The physics is elementary. The smooth, taped ancillary creates beneath turbulence than the uncovered, as porous ancillary of the tennis ball. Beneath turbulence agency bottom resistance, and the brawl moves in that direction.

How do u swing a tape ball without tempering the tape?

  • Try to play at night
  • High arm action ( it will give more air to the delivery & the lighter weight of the tennis ball help to swing that ball)
  • Don't ball against the wind I mean with the wind will help to produce the best result
  • pitch the ball up york or good length

very simple way that I used some time is give a proper taping and in the last just make a wrinkle at the tape end nothing more.

I haven't played tape ball in a while. So won't be much help. To get it to reverse swing, you need to half tape the ball or rip one side of the tape. The seam has to be high. Conventional swing is the same as a hard cricket ball. You need to point the seam either way and lock your wrist.

Thanks bro

its very easy to spin the tape ball but dont know about swing!

lol this has to be the best avatar of all time :)))

anyways on topic

just stealthily keep rubbing the taping to one side so eventually one side has more tape and is hence heavier.

Obv the other method is to have the tape ripped from one side exposing the fuzzy part, but thats will be caught on quicker and ball will be retaped :srt
