Interesting article about the bowling plan of Kumble for his pace bowlers against SA.

Kumble would have studied the inconsistent lines India had maintained against Pakistan and then Sri Lanka and hence wanted to make corrections. He knew the straight boundaries, and the one at square leg towards the Peter May stand, were on the shorter side. The smallest error in line could lead to a lot of runs and, ahead of a must-win match, India had to plug every possible weak link.

Next morning, Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah put into practice what they had learnt, tying up the South African opening pair of Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock with tight lines and unbeatable lengths. The slowness of the pitch - it was being used for the second time in three days - added to the batsmen's misery.

Having given away 51 and 44 runs in the first 10 overs against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, India improved significantly against South Africa - giving away on 35 runs.

So what bowling plan do you think Kumble is preparing for Bangladesh, and how will they respond?

Bangladesh need not single our India bowling. Rather focus on their own strengths.

Try to face the Indian bowlers with caution upfront, then soumya cuts loose. Tamim, Shakib to play the anchor role and the rest bat around them.

Focus on taking singles and testing out the Indian fielders. Indian fielding as a unit is not too great tbh. A few world class fielders but few are not upto the mark. So a lot of runs can be made by running hard between the wickets and finding the gaps. Indian bowlers can make the ball move in that case caution is needed.

However, its all about who deals with the pressure. Not just BD but India. Can Indian bowlers deliver? They delivered against Pak, they made SA struggle(well you dont need to bowl too well against SA to choke them do you?). BD batting too is prone to collapses so India will be under the pump to dismiss BD for a sub-par total again. Bear in mind, there is no pressure on our boys. Our boys will play freely. India are the favorites for this match

The best way is to attack them. If they are tentative, they will be bogged down and then the spinner’s wil strangle them. I think India's batsmen will come out ultra-aggressive against BD's bowlers they will play them with disdain. But I think Taskin and Fizz have the potential to do something special if they can hold their nerve. There is something about Kohli when he takes on Bangladesh. He really seems to want to dominate them.

BD players would and should concentrate on their own batting. So nothing to discuss.

You are not serious? At this level every team prepares a plan for the other team they will face. It is based on the specific players they will be playing against.

More about the bowling plan India followed against SA.

Bhuvneshwar knows these conditions well and has been heavily involved in making the team's bowling plans. "The only thing you have to change is length. Everyone is bowling a bit back, compared to what they normally bowl."

"The wickets have been a little different," Bumrah said. "I expected slightly different wickets - the wickets are a little hard, favouring the batsmen.

"You have to be proactive, you have to vary your lengths all the time and you have to be consistent as well. So the margin of error is quite less. We were just focusing on that and trying to hit good, hard lengths and not to give them room."

As for Kumble's [practice] exercise before the South Africa match, Bumrah said, "Basically he was telling about the lines. You don't want to give room to the batsmen because there is no lateral movement. There is no swing or seam on the wicket.

"They are very flat so you can't be one-dimensional. If you continuously bowl on one area, the batsman would line you up. With the four-fielder rule [outside the circle between overs 10 and 40] it is difficult for the bowlers as well, so you had to use the occasional yorker or a bouncer and it worked."

There is on thing I don't worry about ,India is pressure handling. Opposition has to be good to beat them. If ,India senses even a slight panic in the opposition side they will pounce on it. So this talk of "pressure is on India" never works. Wanna beat them? Play solid fearless cricket.

when was the last time Soumya actually cut loose against a quality opposition? not a rhetorical question. his last few innings mentioned in CI show two fifties against Ireland and Newzeland. BD Seems to have lots of faith in him, so i am assuming he is really good

Soumya has done well in Srilanka and like you said a few good innings in the tri series.

He is rated because he is one of those players who on his day can demolish the opposition. Sweet timer of the ball, charges the Pacers, big hitter, can play the uppercut.

However there are two types of his batting. On a good day he is authorative like he was against England before getting out. Or look like a fish out of water against NZ and Australia. There is no in between.

Management has put a lot of faith in him. Decent stars in all formats. But needs to come good tomorrow
