How will Pakistan batsman cope with Jofra Archer?

If Naseem Shah started bowling 80 mph after his first spell, Mamoon would be all over him, and rightfully so. You won't find him criticizing Archer though.

England's biggest worry would be Archer's lack of pace across tests. They are clearly getting the likes of Archer and Wood to play enough games so that they will prepared to bowl in India, Australia etc. At this pace, I'm not sure he'll do much in those places.

Archer has been found out. His honeymoon period seems over.

I think he will disappear from team soon. Pakistan probably will get tested by Anderson and Broad more than Archer.

Agreed 5hey will struggle against anderson broad and woakes

Why would he not be 100 percent hes had more than enough rest and recovery time

Actually no, he’s only had a few months. After the ashes last summer he had around 2 and a half months rest and according to Mamoon and RedwoodOriginal that wasn’t enough, and it was the reason for his rubbish performance in New Zealand. They were pretty adamant that I was stupid for suggesting it was enough rest and I don’t know about the strains of bowling fast etc etc.

How many months is Mamoon RedwoodOriginal expecting archer to get rest.if he didnt have enough rest then england wouldnt have played him also the conditions in New Zealand should have suited him as he can move the ball and doesnt nessecly need pace in New Zealand.

Apparently pitches in New Zealand weren't conducive for fast bowling but Southee took 5 wickets in the first match, and Wagner took 8. In the 2nd test, even Stuart Broad took 4 wickets, Neil Wagner took 5. Archer had 1 wicket in each test.

New zealand pitches are always thier for fast bowlers even thou I didnt match the series 1 wicket wow great bowler he is

Not just a great bowler - but the Best bowler in the world. Again, not on potential. But he is currently the best bowler on this planet - ahead of Rabada, Cummins, Shami, Starc. After 4 decent test matches.

And 1 T20 where he took 2 wickets was enough to make him a better bowler than Bumrah.

I hope Misbah and the think tank get some common sense and work on the usual Pakistan weakness of short bowling.

Jofra is likely to present a Olivier level threat, which was enough to dismantle Pakistan in South Africa. The coaches should spend some hours just firing bouncers at the batters and getting them used to ducking and riding the bounce where needed. That’s the level of preparation needed for Archer.

They need to focus mainly on Anderson, Broad, Stokes and Woakes who will be the main threat in the series.

I thought he bowled better than 3 wickets, especially in the 2nd innings. He was unlucky a few times and could have had at least 2 or 3 more wickets.

Shaheen has better average in tests and odis than archer.archers has better average in t20s.archer doesnt even have a fifer or 4 wickets in an inings in odis.shaheen bowls on dead pitches were archer bowls in swinging seeming conditions

Dont try and ride it duck is best option

Hasnain is the same height and pace.

They need to get him to bounce the batsmen endlessly in the nets.

Jofra Archer in 2nd innings average speed = 138 kph; highest = 145 kph. He'll be trundling by the 2nd test against pakistan. Just need to play him out cautiously in the first.

Good analysis. Shows that some people are fretting over nothing. Only issue is that our mediocre batsmen may end up turning him into the beast that his hype promised.

Agreed. Archer isn't even among the top 5 pacers in terms of average speed since 2019.

Highest Average Speed (kph) in Tests since the start of 2019:

Mitchell Starc - 144.53 kph

Anrich Nortje - 142.46 kph

Naseem Shah - 141.26 kph

Mark Wood - 140.80 kph

Pat Cummins - 139.46 kph

Shannon Gabriel - 139.07 kph

This means, he bowls a spell or 2 at 145+ kph, but then follows it up with multiple spells of 135 kph bowling. Hardly anything special.

Yep. He hasn't shown the ability to keep his speeds up across spells and test matches.

Even that average speed is skewed thanks to some very rapid spells in the Ashes. At times, he was bowling low 130's in NZ. For a bowler who has not played any cricket apart from 4 tests since the ashes , i'm not sure workload can be blamed either.

He is similar to Shoaib Akhtar. Will be remembered for moments not for winning matches.

Yeah I remember him going as low as 126kph in New Zealand. In the recently concluded test match I saw him bowl one at 80mph.

The way he got brooks out is the classic dismissal incoming for our bats unfortunately.

Holding a good length outside of and then bang with the slightly fuller, slightly straighter, slightly quicker one, and the likes of Azhar Ali are going to have their head falling over to the offside and miss the ball having to play around their front pad.

I fear for Azhar and Asad but think others will be ok insha'Allah

It that only about pace and height? I mean, bowling machines can shoot balls at 150K from 3 metres height endlessly and PCT can afford half a dozen of those.

I think, the key is PAK batsmen practicing their back foot game, doesn’t matter if it’s from Irfan or Musa Khan but they must find a way to play on back foot. Hasnain and other pacers definitely will bowl lots of overs in north BCB Natural instincts of every PAK batsman bar Babar is a trigger forward movement to their comfort zone (front foot), which needs to be worked on, otherwise this Jofra guy is going to damage few helmets & bones. This front foot based game is partially because of playing on UAE tracks but mainly for bad coaching at the start of career.

come play in Asia and watch all their average speeds drop even more.

Pakistan batsmen need to do a LOT of short ball work, because I can't see many of our batsmen surviving that Archer barrage vs Blackwood the other day.

3 of Naseem Shah's 4 tests have been in Asia. Nortje also played 3 tests in India.

I was referring to guys like rabada, cummins etc. Nortje should he play for Asian sides consistently then his speeds will drop.

It's far far harder to bowl fast in Asia. Naseem is fortunate to not get injured yet.

Rabada is not on the list and Cummins is number 4.

Yes it is harder to bowl faster in Asia, what exactly is the point you are trying to make? That the fastest bowlers in the list are only bowling quickly because they're not bowling in Asia? When the poster above disproved that, you switched your point to 'Naseem is fortunate not to get injured'.

Point is if the phaassst bowlers from Australia, south africa get up in as Asia and bowled on these dustbowls regularly, their average speeds would stop significantly because it's mentally and physically demanding to exert yourself on such lifeless pitches.

Archer on vs Abdi Ali and Shan - how will they cope?

Archer wins the first battle quite easily vs Abid. Classic 2 bouncers and a full one. Hope the rest are a bit more tuned on.

Archer dropped from the team for this Test, after Pakistani batsmen dealt relatively well with him in the first Test.
