Pakistan go into the Champions Trophy as outsiders, but with Pakistan you never know what is possible.

What do you reckon, a group stage exit, perhaps the semi-finals, maybe beaten finalists or can they actually win it?

My heart tells me we'll be champions BUT my head says we'll be out in the group stages.

Will win against Lankans only, we can't score 300 and spinners are ineffective in England!

Against IND:

India win by 4 wickets

Against SA:

SA win by 80 runa

Against SL:

Pakistan win by 4 wickets. This would be dead rubber. Shehzad, Azhar, Hafeez and Malik to score sweeeeeeet 50's and 100's. Book their tickets to uae against SRL.

We will go all the way, but I'm not in the best mood today so I'll vote for semi-final exit. Otherwise there is no doubt in my mind that the cup already has our name written on it.

out in semi's. Remember last few years pakistan are consistently getting into the semi's and then losing out so I will go by that feat.

Don't know about results, but I am convinced that we will perform better than 2013, even if that means losing all three games.

This is the first tournament in a long time where I can admit Pakistan have no chance. Will not be shocked when we are knocked out in the group stage

Hard to say. This is the easy group. The other group of ENG/OZ/BD/NZ is much tougher and if PAK were there instead of here it would've been a first round exit for sure.

SL are probably the weakest of all teams so PAK can win there. PAK-IND is 60-40 in PAK's favour currently unless we lift our game significantly at the CT. RSA too look beatable IMO. However, in SF I'll give them 10% chance if they get England and no chance if they face OZ.

1998 group stage

2000 Semis

2002 group stages

2004 semis

2006 group stages

2009 semis

2013 group stages

2017 Semis Hence proved :-P

Pakistan will get exposed and once again we will be reminded how far behind we are left by other top teams.

I can tell you the batting mentality this team will adapt.

survival for first 10 overs. RR around 4.
Then the batsmen will feel pressure of playing slow and will attack even the good balls and will lose quick wickets. Then comes another survival and in the late overs when Pakistan will be looking for big shots they won't have players to play those big shots.

In last few years Pakistan's batting has been pretty much predictable against quality sides and once you can't overcome quality sides you can not win big events.

Not expecting much. Just hope our games don't make me feel bored and sleepy for a change.

No much expectations with ahmad, azhar, babar, haris, shoaib, sarfraz, hafeez no one is looking really threatening to the opposition. If they go beyond 300 in any match this will be rated as good effort.

Expectations:

IND-PAK: Thriller (anyone can win cuz we ain't falling away easily this time).
PAK-SA: Extremely one-sided win for SA or narrow victory for PAK if SA choke.
PAK-SL: SL will give fight but PAK will surely win.

So IMO
Semi-final qualification mostly depends on PAK-IND match result
Will not go further than Semis if against ENG or OZ

I'll be happy with a semi final entry. I'll be off the walls from happiness if they defeat India iA.

I just want growth and solid improvement from the team as a whole. Get your bearings as a young team with more youth than before to continue improving as a side, and work towards having a solid presence in the 2019 WC. That's honestly how any of us should be feeling going into this. We tend to perform well as underdogs though so you never know :)

I'm afraid I expect a painful first round exit. Pakistan just don't have the batting personnel to post big scores or chase big scores. Until this is rectified they won't come close to winning a major tournament. Expectation is they may get by Sri Lanka but don't see them getting close to South Africa or India. And as long as Wahab Riaz is part of their bowling attack sides playing against Pakistan will be licking their lips with glee.

You are my favorite poster so I hope Pakistan loses otherwise you might dissappear again like you did after Pakistan won the third test .

haha brother I can bet every penny that this Pakistan side is not capable of batting out other oppositions. You need fearless batting approach backed with your skills and the team management and selectors. Confidence is one of the key factor when it comes to batting for the team and not for your place in the side. Half of our players don't have this luxury others just seem inept at playing to the modern day requirements. Only a miracle can help Pakistan in this even like the miracle when WI 11th batsman went for a slog to gift Pakistan win.

So who do you suggest we pick for this "fearless batting approach"??

Umar Akmal?

A guy who averages 21 in the last three years and has just one fifty to his name.

:salute

Any improvements in our chances based on the BD win?

Is it probable by any means for there to be PAK-IND final, like there was a chance for a Semifinal between the two in the 2015 WC, had Pakistan won against Australia?

If both India and Pakistan qualify from their group and then win their respective semis that will setup an India vs Pak final.

I don't want that to happen because even if we whip everyone throughout the tournament if we meet India in the final we will gift them the trophy on a platter.

Semi Final exit if Imad shows great form with the bat and if Sarfraz is comfortable with opening. That way, we'll have Babar, Haris and Malik in the middle after of Fakhar and Sarfraz which is the best lineup possible, alongside Fahim, Shadhab and Imad who can play some really good knocks.

Realist says L2, W1, out in group stage. Optimist says out in semi finals as we can't beat Aus/Eng.

Seeing an early exit for Pakistan based on quality of their team. At best they could sneak into semi after that they would really have to punch above their weight to go all the way which for this team would be a crazy achievement.

I thought the same when Haris was also called back for UA...But looking how things are going forward I think the margin of defeat will still be the same as 2013 CT....if they bench azhar shehzad and wahab then there is a high possibility to win all three games...Hafeez will get away with his all round ability and one passanger in a team...

The way Sri Lankan batsmen are putting up performances against Aus I doubt Pakistan will go home with any win. Even the young inexperience Sri Lankan side is better at modern day cricket than our test wonders.

We get to the semis, pitches will start taking turn as weather has been warm and only 3 grounds being used all tournie.
I'd take England when there's a bit of turn to be had

50% say out in the group stage.

I have got a feeling we will beat India and SL and reach the SF's.

Not speaking out of heart but we generally do well against India in CT and have had the psychological advantage vs. SL since forever.

India and South Africa both will destroy Pakistan

Pakistan will win close game against Sri Lanka :)

I don't see them winning a single match not even against srilanka their batting is better bowling is not good enough though but they have 50%chance of winning.

Reminder if any needed about what we CAN do!

You guys have already lifted. Azhar babar and sarfi have even taken selfies.

If u are meaning, the other lift..

Pigs might fly

LMAO... you are welcome lads

People don’t realise how well we did in the knockout games. India and England were favourites for this cup and we slapped them both comprehensively, not even like a close game we absolutely demolished both of them.

That was when we were viewed as underdogs and some of our cricketers and coaches were much more humble. After the CT we are viewed as a real force and people like Hasan Ali are being cocky like before the Pakistan vs India Asia Cup clash he said "I will take 10 wickets" and Inzimam seems to also be a bit cocky about our chances in the world cup.

No body gave us a slightest of a chance and we ended up surprising everyone..

I'm afraid lightning won't strike twice. We won't defy the huge odds against us two tournaments in a row

The round robin format will make it harder to get to the semis this time around.
