How would a potential PTI victory affect Pakistan cricket/PCB?

Agreed with him about the "Muaashara" of Pakistan being without discipline, short cut-ism and lack of education. But then he had to go and say that two "tailunted" guys like UA and Selfie were sitting outside because they did not get along with the coach.

Also his question "Aapne suna hai dunya mai kahi aisa hota hai?".

Yes it happens everywhere, the coach is the ultimate authority and he can bench players for attitude, performance etc-

He meant that they don’t get along with the coach.

In other words, they have the (Excplecitive) to question the authority of the coach which would not be found in a player elsewhere.

No other cricket boss of any other national board would ever say such a thing. But hey he got Shaggy to sing in the PSL, great job.

This interview took place after the 2016 T-20 WC when we put our worst ever showing and were 10 years behind other major teams in terms of fitness, skills

Can you give some examples of him showing any interest in Domestic cricket?

PCB has doubled its budgeted investment in Domestic Cricket this year after increased cash inflows from the PSL. The PCB has improved the condition of the balls, doubled the pay of domestic cricketers and is spending a tremendous amount on upgrading the Qadhaffi and National Stadium which is no peanuts.

Majid Khan was really good but he is too old now and i heard he is ill. Ehsan Mani is also in good books of IK.

I hope Zakir Khan is kept away from PCB he is a buddy of IK

Since Imran dropped Majid in his last tour to England some 30 years ago, they are in talking terms with each other.

Maybe you are unaware of the full spectrum of responsibilities of PCB.

What are his achievements regarding grass root cricket? Grounds in places where there are none? Academies? Domestic structure? Pay scales for domestic cricketers?

There are plans to make new academies IIRC and like Savak said the budget for domestic has been doubled and so have the salaries been.

The ICC made it clear political interference in cricket should end. Imran will first have to sack himself in essence as usually the PM or President is made patron of the PCB, who then appoints the chairman and other staff. The whole system will be overhauled which needs to be done.

Sethi has done ok but not to the extent some people are suggesting. He has done little to improve domestic cricket or scouting for younger talent. His PSL managment has been ok but this would have taken place with or without Sethi. As for the team, it's solely down to Mickey Arthur, who will not be fired.

They are all political appointees rewarded for services rendered. Sethi has done a good job on the PSL but his and the PCB's lack of interest in domestic cricket shows that he is not fit for the Top PCB job. Do you think that he has even been to a non televised FC game? You and i know the answer to that question. If he stayed on as the PSL head honcho then thats fine with me.

I completely agree.

Imran Khan is all about ego and personal power. As I have said many times before, he is a chronic patient of the Messiah Complex.

He doesn’t have a problem with crooks and frauds as long as there are on his side. Sethi is not an angel, but he is not a bigger fraud than Jahangir Tareen, Sheikh Rasheed, Aleem Khan and Amir Liaquat etc.

Even today, he will side with Sethi and forget about his 35 punctures if it will help him become the PM.

That is how power hungry and shameless he is.

That is my major beef with Imran Khan fans, they treat him like some sort of a god and whatever he says is right. Even though he is partnered with the likes of Shiekh Rahseed ( biggest lota in the history of Pakistan), Aamir Liaqaut (fake doctor), Firdous Ashiq ( corrupt), Jahanger tareen (corrupt) etc. they will justify his behavior one way or another. However, if he is against someone, no matter what the person has done they will character assassinate him and will belittle all the good things that person has done.

I personally dont care about this political mumbo jumbo. Thing is that calling PSL a small achievement or just an okay achievement is besharmi of highest order. PSL turned Pakistan cricket around, it is the biggest delta in Pakistan cricket since independence in my opinion and only Najam managed to pull it off when previous PCB managements failed to do it. I would have said we are a thankless nation but no i dont believe that, what i believe is that had Najam being an Imran khan supporter, the same people would have been singing his praises.

This is what happens when supporters become partisans, and partisans become cult members. Imran Khan can literally get away with anything now, because his supporters will say "labaik" to whatever he does or says.

As I said in this thread earlier, if Imran becomes the PM and fires Sethi, the cult members will praise him and call it the right decision. However, if he spares him, the cult members will still praise him and call it the right decision.

I genuinely feel sorry for PTI supporters. They have become little more than sheep.

Says the guy who has zero credibility in the whole forum because he runs away after posting false propaganda :))

For me it has little to do with being an Imran Khan supporter, as I've had these views since I've been following cricket.

Again, you are comparing Sethi's performance against previous political appointments to the PCB which i hardly a standard to compare with. The franchise owners made the PSL with Sethi only taking care of the administration and making decisions along with the owners to bring back some PSL matches to Pakistan. I dont want to crticise it too much as it's a good league for Pakistan cricket but this was an idea long before Sethi got involved with the PCB.

He has openly said, Pakistan has no talent. The guy is clueless when it comes to Pakistan cricket. The matches in Pakistan where foreign nations were hosted were not down to him but to Giles Clarke who has much more influence.

If IK wins, sure Sethi should be able to apply for the job and if he is seen as the best man for it, no problem.

Not just 2013 influence but also Najam Sethi arranged a meeting of Nawaz and Zardari a recently and tried his best to hurt IK and PTI chances. If Najam Sethi can't stay away from playing dirty politics why should PTI favor him (if they come into power)?

Ouch. But but but, as per some posters who mourn for days whenever Pakistan cricket wins, Najam Sethi is the savior of Pakistan cricket....! How dare you! /s

Well said Waqar!

Imran Khan was advocating for an independent governing body since before he even got into politics.

He’s absolutely right. Ad hoc governing bodies are selected on epotism and cannot work efficiently.

Any strong organisation should have employees based on merit, experience and on what you know not on who you know.

A independent cricket board with democratically elected officials and with deserving employees would take Pakistan cricket to new heights and what’s more it will continue to flourish irrespective of changes in government.

Will Imran Khan’s ‘tabdeeli’ affect the PCB as well?

By Saleem Khaliq

Published: July 20, 2018

KARACHI : “I have heard that Zakir Khan is ordering new suits. It is becoming obvious that after a change in the country [via Imran Khan], the cricket board will follow suit and then Zakir will benefit greatly.”

When a friend of mine said these words, I also started thinking that maybe this can happen as after all, Zakir is a close friend of Imran’s.

During a Test career spanning three and a half years, he played two Tests and Imran was the captain of the team in both these matches. During these two matches, he took five wickets, while he took 16 wickets in 17 ODIs in his career.

Zakir had only one competency: being close to Imran.

Word is out that even Imran’s ex-wife Reham Khan has mentioned him in her book out of jealousy. That is the level of friendship they share.

It is quite baffling to see Zakir being part of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as he is quite inactive that way and only goes to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to use the gym and the training facilities and goes home after lunch.

Despite this, each month, hundreds of thousands of rupees are transferred to his account; he also has been given other facilities including a car.

Incumbent PCB Chairman Najam Sethi seems helpless in the matter and can do nothing about Zakir.

And since Imran is already unhappy with Sethi, he decided not to further antagonise Imran by confronting his close friend.

Imran will most certainly win the elections and will form his government and I am sure that he will bring a positive change to the country. But since I am related to cricket, my first scale of judgment will be what happens to the sport in the country, especially the cricket board.

If people like Zakir are handed control of the PCB, things will certainly fall apart!

But whether that will come to pass is something that we will have to wait and see. However, one thing is certain and that is that the chairman of the PCB changes with the government and it would be fair to assume that the same would happen this time around as well.

When the government changed back in 2013, Zaka Ashraf, who was associated with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), was removed and Sethi, who was close to the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), was chosen to take the reins of the cricket board.

However, a legal battle ensued in which Ashraf was reinstated and then suspended once again. Shaharyar Khan was brought forward as a dummy chairman and Sethi became the head of the all-powerful Executive Committee.

The tablet of his name was put on the room of the chairman last year but now many people want that to change; this has happened in the past and it certainly can happen again.

It was the talk of the town that since Ashraf had a close relative in the PML-N, he would continue as chairman but this did not happen.

He was removed after having been accused of financial misappropriations which still remain unproven to this day.

Just as we can see in the political environment of our beloved country, when the time comes to remove a head of the board, allegations of corruption and misappropriations surface.

Allegations have even been hurled at former president General Pervez Musharraf’s close friend Dr Naseem Ashraf but nothing could be proven against him and he is now organising the Emirates Cricket League in the UAE.

Another incident that came to the fore in the past was when a former PCB chairman wrote to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to suspend Pakistan’s membership due to political interference, however, nothing transpired.

Anyways, the ICC is not like FIFA which has 211 members.

As of now, ICC has 12 Full-Members and out of them, Zimbabwe are in a terrible condition, while Afghanistan and Ireland have just started out and it will take a long time before they are able to spread their wings and actually influence the ICC.

The ICC has given a warning to Sri Lanka where the board is awaiting elections, but the ICC cannot suspend any member.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on whose support the ICC stands is also prone to many issues and court committees are overlooking the cricket matters.

This is why the world cricket governing body acts as a silent spectator in these matters.

Sethi faced much opposition initially during his tenure but he has changed that perception and the number of people in the opposition have started declining.

The reasons are there for everyone to see: the success of the PSL, the resumption of international cricket in the country and the brilliant performances of the Pakistan cricket team.

Now when he seems firm on the seat, it seems as if the 50 overs of his innings are coming to an end and the opposition will now have the opportunity to bat.

Opponents say that Lalit Modi initiated the Indian Premier League (IPL) and now he has fled abroad on corruption charges but the event continues as usual.

This is why the PSL won’t be affected if Sethi leaves. The league has been a remarkable success and has found its commercial viability.

And while all this is true, it remains to be seen what will happen. However, the board’s history does not paint a positive picture and it is a fact that the appointment of the chairman takes place on political basis.

This may happen once again but since Imran is associated with cricket, a better decision is expected on his part. It would be disastrous to bring incompetent people like Zakir or Shakil Sheikh.

Though this all seems premature at the moment, the conditions point towards the fact that change is not coming but rather it already has come.

2019 Pakistan tour of England schedule announced

The people close to Sethi are saying that the 70-year-old will not surrender so easily as he has been given the responsibility for three years according to the new constitution of the board and this is the first year of his tenure.

However, if removed, he has the option to approach the court while the ICC will also not tolerate this.

Regardless of who becomes the chairman, cricket fans are interested in their team’s progress and we too hope that no matter what happens, the sport and our team don’t suffer.

I expect Imran Khan to pick no one. I expect him to make PcB independent. There will be election and someone deserving would win.

Apparently he has tried backdoor channels again with PTI and also one of the reasons his wife refused to join SS. But it doesn't look like IK will let him stay on. Good riddance.

Maybe IK agreed on giving him a face saving exit on his own terms?
