Honestly this final made me heartbroken I am not a kiwi but today I wanted New Zealand to win Agaisnt England after seeing how they lost I was geninuly sad and upset and than I thought to myself what if Pakistan made the finals and in the exact same manner I think I would fall into a coma no joke this is really a sad way to lose for the players and fans

They wouldn't have made it this far.

The match would've been decided in the 100 overs

I thank God that Pakistan did not play this match

Knowing how emotional our people are, there would've been suicides and heart attacks for sure and I don't say that jokingly.

There would be mass riots in Pakistan and there would be calls to boycott "ICC". ICC is lucky that it's NZ, they don't take cricket that seriously, if this was any South Asian team losing in this fashion, it would be over for them.

I would feel worst if Pakistan wins the final like this.

I would feel worst if Pakistan wins the final like this.

Good point didn't even look at it from the perspective I mean I'll be honest I would happy and think it's epic but at the same time I would think it's a messed up way to win but I would still be happy

The people dimissing the injustice that occured to NZ in this match, would be crying like babies if it had happened to their team!!
If the roles were reversed , english fans would have mass protest and their media would go nuts!!!
They would go on about it for the next 50 years, just like they do about maradonns's hand of god goal!!!

I was saying this to my brother actually, imagine if it was pakistan in that scenario i would have been in london and heartbroken.

My brother in law told me if Pakistan lost in this matter he would quit life and be a bum on the street the scary thing is I don't think he was joking lol

Pakistan either loses it in style or wins in style no soft ties.

This is the biggest ** in the history of the game.

It cannot possibly get worse than this in cricket.

We've been robbed by the dumbest rules in cricket.

We literally lost a WC due to two of the dumbest rules in the sport.

How on earth is boundaries taken before wickets?

I would consider hypothesizing about India losing in this fashion instead of Pakistan for obvious reasons.

Once upon a time, many years ago, I would have lost many nights of sleep over this so called injustice and be shocked, angry and disgusted.

I did went through a lessor version of this in Aus-Ind test series in 2007-8.

But now I know that winning and losing by sheer luck in this type of close contest is part of the game. I would have felt bad for day and got back to work.

We would be complaining of course. But with time , we would understand the rules apply for both teams. In sports, sometimes you need luck.

Lol, imagine Basit Ali’s reaction if something like this had happened to Pakistan

It would have felt terrible. I am happy Pak were 5th. Wasn’t even in the mood to lose the SF against IND.
Rules are rules but this particular rule is shameful.

Having logical rules would help.

England woildn't be complaining about wickets > boundaries if they lost, it actually makes sense.

I cant imagine that.
I am already feeling so gutted for the Kiwis.I cant believe they lost this. The trophy should have been shared.
I can not imagine Pakistan in such a situation. The pain would have been too severe to contemplate.

Rules were there before the start of the tournament. I don’t like them but they are there. They aren’t England’s fault.

Not sure but had Pakistan won, we would have had countless threads about how flukey and undeserving we were

Don't know about that.
But today surely was one of the most tense and heart breaking day of my life and it was bound to happen.
On one side there was England who had been playing some unreal brand of cricket for last 4 years and on the other hand Kiwis whom I wanted to win the cup and wanted Williamson to lift the trophy. So both ways heart break would still be there. If any team had won single handedly or may be a bit close contest then it would have made me feel alright that the better team won but after the tied match and tied superover it was the biggest heart break ever for me.
I so badly wanted the teams to share honors in the end but it is sports and it is what life is all about.
Felt really sad for Kiwis and don't know what the players might be going through.

Im pretty sure at least 2 million people would have died of heart attacks.

we might see riots against icc

If we played England and lost like that, I guarantee all of Bradford riot again. Can't say it was intentional though by Stokes.

You cannot possibly be screwed worse than this in cricket.

How can you even compare losing a WC on boundaries to anything ever again?

ICC should be embarrassed.

It really is stupid makes no sense at all even my sister watched and she doesn't know about cricket but she understood that the super over was tied and than she said so their going to do another over right ....the look on her face when she found out England was just because of boundaries even someone doesn't watch the sport knows it's a stupid rule

Would have been divine justice because this Pakistan team deserves nothing. You cannot waddle into the World Cup as a 6th ranked team with a 13 match losing streak and hope that things will go your way in the right moment.

should have heard those people like piers when Roy was given out in semis, they nowhere to be seen now. :)))

At least Pakistan won their match emphatically, England had all the luck and illogical rules to win a world title. Yet everyone is talking about how stupid the rules are.

Lol you know how to annoy posters.

if my team won like this, i would disown this world cup it would be a shameful fluke. unless it was against india, in which case the rules can go to hell.
india would probably declare war if pakistan ever won a world cup like this.

I wouldn't be on this site for a long time had Pak lost in such a cruel way.

Would have accepted that the more deserving team won as according to the rules they would have won.

I thank God that Pakistan did not play this match

Chill man. Nothing is worth committing suicide.

The heart attacks are more to do with the super high cholesterol diets.

Pakistan would have won the final had it was playing. NZ batting was toothless throughout.

It's good that this happened to the nicest, chilliest, sanest cricket team and their fans. I don't think any other country would have coped with this

Pak would have defended the score. We wouldnt have got close to stopping the 2 from stokes. He wouldn't have needed to dive in and so it wouldn't have ricoched for 4 extras :)

In all honesty, I cant even bring myself to think about it. It would be seriously tough to take

I hope people writing this off lose a WC on boundaries to understand how dumb this rule is.

Very true what you said but no one should lose in this fashion

No one should but rules are the same for both teams. They just imported T20 rules and I'm sure they will reevaluate now. Nobody expected games to go this far. I don't think there was ever a game even in T20s where a team has won based on boundaries.

My biggest concern is with umpiring and review system. It was absolutely atrocious and disgusting that Ross Taylor had to go back despite being not out just because he didn't have a review. What kind of a dumb rule is that? There are instant replays and if the third umpire sees that a batsman was not out, why can't he send him back to bat. Someone needs to seriously address this. Similar case with Jason Roy in the SF. Players dream about these games all their life and a nincompoop takes it away just because he can.

10% of Pakistani fans would have blamed Babar and Imam for batting to slowly and not getting the extra run

10% of Pakistani Fans would have been thumping their chest saying it's a good thing this happened and Pakistan deserved to lose (aka. PakPassions Wrist Slitting Society - WSS)

10% of Pakistani fans would have been asking for the selector, captain, coach and janitor at PCB HQ to be sacked

10% of Pakistani fans would be blaming Sarfraz for the defeat since he was too excited....or not excited enough in the field...TBC

10% of Pakistani fans would be blaming BCCI for influencing the ICC for making such silly rules

10% of Pakistani fans would be blaming the management for asking Shaheen to bowl the super over

10% of Pakistani fans would be blaming Shaheen for not being able to ball the perfect combination of reverse swinging toe crushing yorkers and slower bouncers during the super over

10% of Pakistani fans would be claiming Pakistan would have won if *insert random player from domestic crickets name here* had been in the team

10% of Pakistani fans would be claiming that Fakhar should have bowled the super over since he has experience of bowling the super over during the North Nazmabad 2013 Ramadan Cricket Tournament

10% of Pakistani fans would be heart broken and would simply accept they were on the wrong end of a rubbish rule and poor luck today

Meanwhile PakPassion would be the most toxic place on the web, social media would go into melt down and our pathetic news channels would be running the most over dramatised and ridiculous news headlines.

..............thank God it didn't happen to us alhumdullilah :inzi2

I don't know what to say!
I can't think of any other sport in the world that has such absurd , stupid rules!
What has the number of boundaries hit got to do with who the better team is, when both sides end up with the same number of runs!!

The extras from hitting stokes bat are on a level of stupidness that i have never witnessed before!!

The last time I cried over cricket was the 1996 quarter final loss against India, and I was 12 at the time.

I would have cried today without a shadow of any doubt had Pakistan lost like this. Heartbreak does not even begin to describe what new zealand cricket went through today.

England were all out...
No wickets left in the hutch.
So logically they should have been the losing team.

I'll be out protesting this is daylight robbery.

Hahahahaha brilliant post :)))

If Pakistan were in England’s shoes I would have said that New Zealand were robbed

I'd protest outside ICC headquarters, wherever they are. This has got to be the worst loss a team has ever suffered in cricketing history.

No team deserves to lose like this.

No one deserves this pain.

It would have been a BCCI and ICC sazish! Pak would have boycotted and not accepted the result.

We've been robbed by the dumbest rules in cricket.

It will take sometime before u accept it as u went so close. But there is no robbery here. ICC just followed the rules wich were made a long before the match started and every country including kiwis accepted it respectfully.

This is the single worst way to lose in sport ever.

There is nothing in the sport that will make you feel worse than this. We didn't lose and we're not champion.

Most tragic defeat in sporting history, we didn't even lose we didn't win the WC because some ***** from ICC thought boundaries were more important than wickets.

It also appears that the batsmen hadn't crossed when the ball was thrown, so it should only have been 5 runs and not 6 on the overthrow.

Anyway, very well played NZ, in the final and the entire tournament. And well deserved Man of Tournament award for KW.

Honestly, I think ICC is one of the most incompetent sporting organisations going around. It keeps changing the laws like its a fashion statement.

Way to make it worse :)))

Man of the tournament should have been Shakib.

Would be absolutely gut wrenching but even if we had won this way it would leave a sour taste in your mouth. Winning a World Cup on a technicality lol.

Man of the tournament should have been Shakib.

For player performance yes, but KW got it for his leadership plus batting.

Not to say Shakib didn't excel, he was phenomenal.

Just be glad it wasn't India. Would've resulted in one of 2 things happening. Either the result would've been changed to give India the title, or the ICC would go to shambles when they left the ICC as a result

Kane's batting, fielding and captaincy > Shakib's WC.

Fair enough but on an tangentially related note it was not the best of ideas to send Guptill for the super over when he has not had the best of tournaments/game. Ross Taylor or himself would have been a much better option.

Ah yes ofcourse! Very good point!

The likes of Mohammad Yousuf, Shoaib Akhtar & Mohsin Khan would pass verdicts on talk shows as if they have won more World Cups than the Australian team

Yes, the world cup should just be handed over to the 1st ranked team, rest of the teams can just be there to do some circus tricks for ***** and giggles.

I would stop watching cricket till the next World Cup.
